As someone who can understand chinese. I will tell u that most of the negative things said about it are all false. Yes he is confident and he feels for the fans for being upset. And talks about chinese gaming industry and about thier core team values and about being confident and brave to face difficulties. Is it international fans or Chinese fans or a mixture? I'm unsure is why I ask. Chinese fans are often very protective of Chinese media because it's seen as a reflection of their country. I think review bombing comes off as insecure and whiny but it could be a reason why it's happening.

@@andyowski5021as a Chinese, I think it’s reasonable to emotionally link ourselves to something labeled as Chinese made and to be some kind of protective even though bombing on social media is not appropriate at all. We can feel the systemic discrimination and the fear against us always exists. And we can feel us being categorized and treated as a part of that stereotype all the time. Even the DEI groups exclude us and they refuse to see the inequality we face. It actually unites us and forces the western world and us to be more against each other, which is so bad. But at the end of the day, we didn’t start any war, we were just people being treated unfairly. If some of us expressed too much anger on the internet, please understand that we don’t have any other places to complain and protest. We can’t walk down any street in New York holding a giant sign saying we Chinese are just normal people not the enemy of the world. we can only go online. If you also believed in democracy, then maybe it would be better to hear our voices.

The major thing I take out of Feng's comment is jury criteria. It is 90% critic and 10% player's vote. No matter which game gets goty the award will always be a controversy because the criteria are unknown. The critics (or journalists that love Concord) can just pick whatever game they please (my guess is DEI friendly) so any scrutiny TGA gets is totally understandable.

I wait until the new trailers come out for games that have no release dates lol. I loved too many games last year and have multiple game of the years. This drama is ridiculous. I guess the disconnect comes from the fact that GS poured their heart and soul into a masterpiece filled with captivating narratives, stunning visuals, beautiful soundtrack, and entertaining gameplay for the players, and the Golden Joystick and Player's Voice awards reflected that, yet that is not the criteria for the GOTY award at TGA. Like if the purpose of GOTY award is not to recognize devs who made something that players want, then what is the award rewarding? BMWK broke all kind of records on Steam. Sure, it's largely due to the the fan base and the cultural significance of the JTTW in China, but to say "oh of course Chinese players like it because it's a Chinese game" is disingenuous. Genshin Impact was a Chinese game too, it didn't put that kinda numbers on the board. Black Myth Wukong caused the PS5 console to be sold out in China because not everyone can afford a PC that can run the game properly, when median monthly salary in China is roughly $1100 USD, unemployment rate among youth and college graduates are over 17%. Let that sink in for a little bit. Sure, the game and the lore is much more enjoyable if you can speak Chinese or understand the story of JTTW, but the critics are supposed to be high-brow folks who understand the cultural significance and the depth and meaning that the game is trying to convey right? Or actually do their homework? But no, all they seem to care about is the perceived lack of inclusion, or more blatantly that Game Science refused to pay the extortion from the DEI mob. Maybe Game Science was disappointed because they were naive and thought the TGA would be above that BS and actually do the right thing.

I think they cried and cared so much because they weren't representing themselves, they were representing the whole of China and their family back home. It was the first breakout triple A hit from China. Them winning game of the year would've basically been historic and a great underdog story.

To be honest, we know why BMW can’t win TGA goty bc of it’s made in China and it’s first time they made AAA game. If TGA gave them this award which implied other AAA game studios which have been in the industry over decades are jokes. Imagine if Astro bot was made by a Chinese studio, and BMW is made by Sony. Tbh. Wukong isnt the best game out of the six nominees. I dont think it even places in the upper half out of the six nominees even. Prolly 4th or 5th rank But I havent played all of them -yet. But will. 2024 was a stacked year regardless, and its just a win for gamers for such a good year.

Yes even if wukong doesn't win I didn't think astro should be the winner. there is a joke spreading that kinda says. Warriors on the horses fought and competed with each other but at the end the horse won. however whatever it is. All these really can be subjective to begin with. And wukong being an Asian chinese lore sharing it into the west was never gonna be an easy task. Some of the essence will be lost and some things western will never understand due to the culture barriers So as a wukong fan I am not pissed and especially after I heard about DEI IGN sweet baby doing its tricks on game science. I knew it wasn't gonna win the big one.

The oscars are far more prestigious and arguably the only time in the 2020s they awarded the best movie was moonlight. Its down to the voters, many of whom may not have played Wukong. Its at a disadvantage being chinese too but theyve already won by bringing Chinese gaming onto the map.

It’s a good game not a great game. It wasn’t just journalist giving it that score. Player review scores are close to that too. 8/10 and that’s what most review aggregate sites say too. That’s fair. It’s got a lot of little issues. Enjoy the game but it’s just NOT a game that’s worth goty. He can be upset but it happens. Look at Larian who made DOS2 which is clearly and amazing gameplay reviewed highly and it WAS NOT EVEN NOMINATED but PUBG was lmao. So there ya go. It happens. What you do is get over it and do what Larian did come back next time and sweep the awards basically
