Let's discuss the controversial outgoing Nickelodeon president Cyma Zarghami

Cyma Zarghami is stepping down from Nickelodeon after serving as president since 2006; she started working for the company, as a scheduling clerk, in 1985. The KZbin user "The Rise and Fall of Nickelodeon" released a Facebook quote from Constant Payne creator Micah Wright alleging Zarghami underpaid animators and believed violent cartoons were harmful to children, following the 9/11 terrorist attack. Do I believe the claims? Do you believe the quote I read in the video?

If Zarghami’s actions in 2001-2002 were exposed to the public, which I’m going to try and get out in the future, she can actually go to jail since lying in federal court and harassing animators and robbing their salaries are considered criminal offences (the first one would land her 5 years in prison GUARANTEED)

I see a pattern. Modifyers not being greenlit and Korra being mistreated is because of Cyma's mentality that "Action shows turn kids into terroists". Based on the fact that so many cartoons have been screwed over I beleive that Cyma has a mentality that cartoons are only for the 7 and below set and the Live Action shows are for the older audiences. in other words the mentality was there that "kids grow out of cartoons into live action trendy sitcoms". This mentality is because Cyma beleived that cartoons are only for little kids.

Totally agree! It’s kind of like how my parents perceive cartoons. And even then, they didn’t think action shows turn kids into terrorists. My parents let me watch Avatar. My dad was also a big fan of the show.

Yes but thats why there are movies like Treasure Planet, Emperor's New Groove, The Iron Giant, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Prince of Egypt etc as well as shows like Older F.O.P, Avatar, Big City Greens, Gravity Falls, and more. These all have proven that animation is an ART for everyone regardless of age and I am determined to contribute to animation and help break its stereotype.

I said that animation is for everyone the problem is the disgusting mentality that so many people have with animation. We can change it if we have more films like Iron Giant, Treasure Planet, Incredibles, Coco, Emperor's New Groove, and less films like Minions and Shark Tale.

If Cyma thinks that action cartoons turns kids into ISIS fighters, then why did she green lit shows like Danny Phantom, My Life as a Teenage Robot, The X’s, and Avatar?! I’m not saying that she shouldn’t(thank God that didn’t happen because those are my favorite NickToons) but, it just seems hypocritical.

I think the fact that Nickelodeon has only had a handful of action shows makes Cyma hypocritical. I think in the case of Danny Phantom, she gave Butch Hartman a pass since he created The Fairly Oddparents.

Do you think she was overruled by other executives when it came to Nickelodeon’s action shows? I know in the case of Avatar: The Last Airbender, their Vice President of development, Eric Coleman, said the company was looking for a mythical, action-adventure show.

Executives were not safe under Cyma either. according to Micah Cyma ruthlessly blamed everyone for failure of leadership. He said at least 8 executives were thrown under the bus in order to perserve Cyma's for another 6 months. Russel Hicks and Broose Johnson come to mind as did many animation executives who ended up at Dreamworks TV and other studios. As the ratings sunk and sunk she blamed more executives instead of taking the blame.

The main reason Cyma hated unions was that it would force her to change the business model of Nickelodeon of milking lots of profits from endless reruns. In addition She viewed children as audiences who turn over to every 2 years and viewed it as evergreen product. considering how expensive it is to make an animated show they wanted to milk reruns and If they had unions they would be forced to pay artists and writers more money which meant that Nickelodeon would earn less money from reruns compared to non union decisions.

In my opinion, Cyma is the typical business executive I see in other industries who does not understand customers. I don't think she realizes that animation fans are a long-term audience. I've been watching cartoons since I was in diapers and I watch the shows I saw when I was a kid and new shows to this day.

Cyma did not even like the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise and only bought the rights to air the show because it was cheap. The canadian Mysticons was also purchased for extremely cheap despite the fact that its viewerships were non existent and was put in the back burner within a year. It was bought purely because it was cheap and was an canadian filler show.

The live-action content got shafted too (although in many cases, deservedly so) unless it had Dan Schneider's name on it. Cyma really did give preferential treatment to Schneider, and he'd probably still be working there if the whole Harvey Weinstein/MeToo thing never happened. The higher ups were already well aware of what he was doing to child actresses (in addition to hiring *convicted child predators fresh out of prison* to work on his shows) long before Harvey Weinstein and MeToo, so they panicked and rushed him out the door (literally paying him to fucking leave) before his actions could come to light.

True after 2006 nick was appealing to kids she changed the Nickelodeon logo from splat to the Nickelodeon in small font in the later years soo line painted red white and SOO in black and in capital letters nick jr was also affected after 2013 during cyma era with shows that make merchandise like paw patrol rusty rivets top wing etc are made to sell toys

13:12 Four years later and the answer to that question is a resounding no. It's Pony had its second season buried to nicktoons where it would receive a mere fraction of the ratings it got on the main channel, Glitch Techs and Pinky Malinky never even aired on the network or nicktoons and were instead dumped to Netflix at the same time as Avatar and Kora (causing both Pinky and Glitch Techs to fly under the radar and get unceremoniously cancelled) and now the network is prioritizing spin-offs of SpongeBob and The Loud House, Henry Danger, Fairly Oddparents, reboots of old programs like Rugrats, All That, and iCarly, and acquisitions of franchises like Big Nate. Nothing has changed of its existence since Cyma stepped down. Nick is still the scumiest of scum in the animation industry. If anything, the new head of the company, Brian Robbins, is even worse than Cyma. With his insistence on unoriginality, sense of quality, and inability to keep it in his pants (I wish I was joking). The new incarnation of Nickelodeon is even less experimental or willing to take risks than it was a decade prior. The sad part is that they're still making bank off of these practices. So there's no reason for them to change (let alone for the better). Unless a miracle happens and the network loses its position as the #1 kids network, they'll still do stuff like this.

I wouldn’t call The Loud House “pure pandering” since some episodes were fun like the one where Lincoln was trying to find the best spot in his family car. A show I would consider pandering is something like Bunsen is a Beast because I feel like the abnoxious title character and set up are aspects I suspect that executives think kids like. If you like Bunsen, more power to you, though.

Cyma loved getting acquired programs for cheap and she only cared about saving money. The Alvin series they currently air was bought because it was very cheap. This is another reason why many cartoons were shafted to Nicktoons. The cartoons were not cheap and Cyma was only happy when she got aqquired shows for cheap.

here is a long list of evidence that I have found of creators being screwed over. here are more evidence of Nickelodeons Cruelty to Creators Amber Montana star of Haunted Hathaways tweeted that she was practically ignored by the network. ignoring her for two side characters in the advertising and barely even hinted at Nickelodeon quickly ordered forty episodes of Sam and Cat without giving anyone the chance to negociate contracts. The schudlue was gruelling for everyone on the cast and crew. Even worse was that when Jeannette Macurdy asked for time off to grieve her mothers death but they refused to do so.(also Arania was paid more than Jeannette despite both being costars) Executives demanded double the amount of episodes of Naked Brothers Band from 13 episodes to 60 episodes in ONE SEASON!!! especially for a cast that mainly consisted of grade schoolers and high schoolers. Polly Draper the creator refused citing a previous agreement that the shooting schedule would not interfer with their schoolwork. the executives refused and canned the show. Micah is right this treatment did occur in Live Action Shows. this is only a fraction of what has happened at Nickelodeon.

Nicktoons were not the only shows that got this treatment. Nick Jr shows were also screwed over. Peter Rabbit(which initally aired with decent times) has screwed within months barely aired on the main channel and aired mostly on Nicktoons and at timeslots where kids would be sleeping or at school. Wallykazam was also screwed over airing it entire second season in canada months before it aired in the U.S and was canceled after two seasons. Julious Jr was burned off with invisible advertising and Max and Ruby airing no reruns on the main channel(airing on 7:30am with absoultely no repeats).Thomas the Tank Engine was also screwed over at Nickelodeon as well only airing for a month or so before being pulled to Nick Jr. Also n live action 100 things to do in high school was screwed over and legendary dudas aired only 6 episodes before being canned. TMNT did not air reruns on the main channel and the entire final season except for the finale premiered on Nicktoons. the Dreamworks shows were also screwed over burning over the remaining episodes of Kung Fu Panda, and Pinguins on Nicktoons. The live action shows are cheap to produce(EWW had 4 seasons within less than year that is how cheap it was).while trying to cash in on the success of Disney Channel.

Nickelodeon is trying to make it look like instagram because they want to look like a kids iphone. I am not suprised because they also try to make memes in their commercials and they even had a stupid "Emoji Challenge" involving the live action stars playing a game in which you had to guess which emoji the pictures represent. This game also happened to represent things like Cardi B(a rapper in which I can care less about) Beyonce, Spiderman Homecoming(A movie that has been forgotton by a majority of people), Coldplay(honestly suprised that they did that since kids hardly know what they are unless one listens to a lot of rock.). Beauty and the Beast(sadly the live action one instead of the far superior animated version). Twenty One Pilots(Irony since it is popular with kids and it NEVER won the KCA's). and Wonder Woman for trends sake and putting these same ipad things on Patrick ads so they are trying to make it look like an app. And making themselves look like laughing stocks in the progress.

Good eye contact! And fyi I do remember the mighty B! It wasn’t good but I remember it. The loud house is a pretty good show lgbt supportive or not but it’s not enough to carry the network. Cyma is truly despicable and I’m glad she left the company. However I fear that there isn’t much hope to revive Nick. Like you said kids are smart enough to know not to do things they see in cartoons. Parents however aren’t always aware of that. It’s a sad fact. Still you need to have some balls when it comes to entertainment! At this point Disney has more balls than Nick at this point. Cyma made iCarly to cash in on Hannah Montana, Haunted Hathaways was a Wizards of Waverly Place clone, BTR cashed in on Jonas Brothers, Victorious is basically Shake it Up. Cyma was more focused on cashing in on Disney Channel shows rather than original content. I can list a few more examples. Spectacular being a cash in on High School Musical, Make it Pop a copy of Victorious(and cashing in on K Pop trends), Game Shakers a copy of iCarly to sell app games, Thundermans a copy on the Wizards of Waverly Place Formula mixed with cashing in on Superhero Trends the list goes on. Nick needs to stop making these kinds of shows. More cartoons and live action that are not trendy tween sitcoms is going to be essential to this channels survival.
