I would treat your window panes like picture frames. Frame up on one side and then use a point driver, like we do when framing pictures, to hold your glass in place. You could finish on the other side, however doing something that can both be permanent and temporary gives you the option to change out the window panes or rearrange them from time to time. This will also allow you to have panes in place while finishing the rest of the studio and creating the artwork as you get time. Once completed you could make frames for the inside that can just sit in place or be held by puddy or something so you can remove them when you like. Ideally over the years you might like to create more panes and change them out for a season. I would personally do scenes from favorite books or something. I would also prime your 1/2” rounded trim before cutting and framing to save time. You could even paint before installation and then you’d only need touchups after.
@blaireshoe87382 ай бұрын
Great ideas! I was thinking something like those clips you use to hold mirrors in place (on both sides), except I wasn't sure how to make it match the sorta industrial vibes with clean lines. Frames are a great solution, and the putty to make the backing removable makes a lot of sense!

I love the idea and the windows turned out great so far! But you should consider that too much colored glass will change the light situation in the room extremely. Having neutral white light is crucial for an artist's studio. So I would rather recommend to put in only a few pieces of colored glass and fill the rest with clear and/or frozen glass. Let the textures speak. I am also not sure about additional trims, because they will add more thickness and reduce the size of the window openings. Maybe you better route a rebate on one side?
@erinhallmakes7772 ай бұрын
I am excited to see stained glass. Less so Mosaic because the grout will block light .
@Lulab3ll32 ай бұрын
Love this! With some of the windows you could screw in small eye hooks so you can hang different stained glass projects and be able to change them out. Also I think using trim to set the glass isn’t the best idea. It will add even more bulk which is what you were worried out in the beginning. I would router a rebate from behind (obviously you’ll have to repaint that) and secure the glass from behind with window putty, or small square trim.

Beautiful!!! Just a thought - just to eliminate the risk of rattling glass inside the frame, add some type of very thin rubber list eliminating that. That gives the wood space to expand and move during seasons also without putting pressure on the glass.

I would use transparent color glass to let the light through as the red and white didn't feel right. I also was thinking of hanging each glass with brass screw eye hook on the frame but I am not sure how to hang the glass onto the hook to get the feel of free flowing concept. It may not work but just a thought. Your idea might be better than mine.

One of the glass frames should be removable somehow, so when you want to change something, or even to add leaded sections, you can remove a rectangle of glass at a time. Wow! I'm happy to see this surprise video! This is definitely a trust the process situation. My only advice is to going forward have some windows be just colors (like a wash or just abstract) and others be detailed pictures. Keep it colorful and happy but not so full that your eyes don't know where to settle. Have a great weekend!
@blaireshoe87382 ай бұрын
I wouldn't have thought of this, but I think you're right! I would have been tempted to go hard on details for every single pane, and just take years to finish enough pieces to actually fill it... but I don't think the borders are enough whitespace to keep it from feeling very busy and give the eye a resting place, and "calmer" pieces can still be fun to make :) I'm actually really curious about different processes you can use to do a wash on glass, maybe that's something she can experiment with, I'd love to see the results!

I think a good idea for the trims would be make them some way in which you can remove the glasses whenever you want, so you can put all the glasses clear just when you buy them, and them, with the time, do the stain glass thing little by little. Also with this method you can have like custom glasses that you can store and make changes in them. Imagine having some stain glass windows different for autumn, christmas time, spring... that would be awesome 😍 (but also too much work haha)

The look on your face when the vacuum caught your shirt end!! Lol! Girl, you did such a good job with the frames. May I suggest that you don't use colour glass/sheets. But, this is your space, so do what works for you. 😍

I don't understand the double framing, and I would've measured it so the tiny sections didn't have to be filled in with wood, because those lil spots would be so cute with a pop of color. I think one large rectangle in the biggest section (closest to the doorway on each side) surrounded by smaller rectangles placed in varying directions rather than straight up and down could've been a super cool design.

I'm a little late to the table - can't imagine what I would have been doing at the same time your video dropped. I must have lost my mind. As someone who does stained glass for a hobby, I would love to see all those colorful window panes. You might even be able to find full sheets of glass that are the same size as the openings, although it would probably get fairly pricey. I think your idea of colored film on clear glass is a good one - you would get the same look for probably a lot more cost-efficiency. I also think someone's suggestion to leave some of the panes clear is a really good one. Whatever you do - it will be spectacular as always. Can't wait to see it.
