Ive been making DIY pon with the same things! I will say, the lava grip lava rock is SO dusty and has a lot of small particals, so I actually ended up sifting it through a strainer first to remove some of the smallest bits. It definitely helped!

Yep enjoyed watching this chore video and even though it's late here in Sydney, you've motivated me to make a list for similar chores tomorrow morning when I get up at 5.30am 😆 My Florida Ghost is growing wild too and because of yours looking so great I've left mine grow wild too...happy days👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And my Silver Cloud (your Mamei) is definitely going into the rectangular self watering trough I bought years ago for it 😅 and I'm also going to put it in LECA since most of my plants are in it (only my Alocasias are in PON). Thanks for your time Fern and glad you're feeling better. Im not looking forward to March here when the days are shorter and colder😏 but I do like autumn and winter here in Sydney (it's not as cold as where you are or the UK, just don't losing the Daylight Saving situation...I thrive on sunshine and lights so my poor hubby has to put up with all the lights on even during the day. One of the ways I reduce my maintenance is to fill my moss pole only up to the plant and fill it as needed, that helps with not watering moss for nothing, I put a tube in the pole so the water gets to the moss without making a water mess, this saves me so much time I can send you a picture if you like

I make my own mix with perlite #4, cocoa coir, coca husk, orchid bark, and charcoal. I apparently didn’t put enough of the cocoa coir in because this mix the water ran through it with out stopping to barely wet the “soil”. So I had to add more cocoa coir to make it a little less chunky. I did add more perlite in it. We’ll see when I repot something well b see how it works.

I just got a new Hoya today. It’s a Hoya black margin. I’ve already let four leaves to cold. It came from Florida during this last cold snap. It wasn’t that cold when I ordered it. It was held up by the grower cause they didn’t have a specimen that was up to their standards and then when they did send it out it was before the latest cold snap. It’s actually doing ok. It’s a wax leaf plant so they are pretty hardy. My diffenbachia didn’t fair so well. I think k I’m gonna lose most of the top leaves. They felt like wet paper when they got here. I flipped and flopped them into position now they feel like silk or dry wet paper. But I’ll have to see. I did take pictures of it right away incase it won’t live. The heat pack was right next to the roots of the diffenbachia. Here’s crossing my fingers and hoping it lives.

Love plant chore videos! 😊❤ I'm a leca user and I love it (except when it gets everywhere 😅). As far as I know I think rinsing and soaking the leca before use is about more than getting rid of dust. There's also alot of minerals and compounds from the manufacturing process in that dust which is not great for the plants. So by washing and soaking them you get rid of that. Flushing regularly is also important to minimize salt buildup and help the ph balance. I recomend watching the leca queen here on yt for more detailed information. Hope you feel better soon! ❤

Hi Fern. I'm glad you mentioned that the sp. Silver is a crawler, but can climb on a pole. I recently got a plant rescue Philodendron - Silver Cloud. As it gets bigger, might try doing the same. It's so upsetting when plants decide to give in. My Calathea - Fasciata, did so well last year, this year leaves are curling and dying off 🤔. I have put it in a prop box to see if extra humidity can save it. Thanks for Pon ingredients 😊. Good luck with the Leca!!!! Hope you get well soon. 💜

Hey Fern, like your videos a lot. I was wondering if you could help? I am from Belgium. I don't find the zeolite here, not in big bags anyway. Is there something else we could use in stead of zeolite, that does the job as well for making our own semi-hydro? Keep making those great video's!!! Take care 🥰
@wildfern10 ай бұрын
Hi! Apparently it's the Zeolite that regulates the pH, however I've heard of people skipping it or even just using pumice with success. I haven't experimented without it, so I can't give my personal thoughts, but you could always try just the pumice/lava rock or even add perlite :)
