Short drive in the 1966 Slant 6, 4 speed, duel carb Dart. It was a cool 50° day and the duel carbs do not have the chokes hooked up… she’s a little cold blooded. Sorry for the camera mount rattle.

Hey man, when I was younger and more stupid, I was convinced that more power was the holy grail. Older and maybe wiser, (or maybe I've just slowed down some myself) I now understand how trying to drive a "slow" car fast is so much more fun. Less expensive, and safer. For me, a car like that would be a treasure.

Cant hurt the slant 6 either so thats a plus 😂

I drove a 1975 Fury sedan with a Slant 6. I never timed it but I expect 0-60 would have been nearly 20 seconds. It still got us where we needed to go until the rest of the car fell apart. The Slant 6 went into somebody's Dodge Pickup.

It’s unfortunate that the manual option is almost completely gone in new vehicles. Anyone who likes cars and trucks and wants to get into the hobby… buy something cheap and tinker with it and learn. It doesn’t have to be a ‘muscle’ car or a JDM or a true sports cars. You can have a blast with a 70’s malaise era car… or an 80’s Chrysler mini-van with a stick-shift or a 90’s 6cyl Mustang. And if it has 3-pedals… bonus!

I owned this car a couple times from 2004 to 2020. It was originally an automatic, then converted to a 4-speed by the guy I sold it to. I bought it back in 2017, enjoyed it for several years before passing it along to the next caretaker in 2020. Sweet ride, never looked better.

Was surprised to see a 4 speed behind a Slant 6 in a Dart. As a motorhead from the early 70’s I was certain that couldn’t be factory combination. Those Slant 6 motors were great dependable engines!
@takablepigon9686 Жыл бұрын
@@hairyparatestes1183 They indeed produced the Dart with the 4 speed factory. I don't know wich models, because I have the 76 4 door sedan and it has the 3 one. Maybe it was the solid roof 2 door, I've heard those are the ones that got the sweetest stuff by Chrysler.

Oh man. It´s videos like this what the world needs, man. I own myself an Argentinean 1967 Chrysler Valiant IV GT (225ci Slant with some nifty little mods, 4-speed, 3.54 diff ratio, straight piped) equivalent to the Dodge Dart from 1966 in the US, but here they were only 4 door sedans and only option for the powerplant the 225. Here's my go-to video for when I am not driving the thing haha! Please upload some more!!! Perfect footage, no music, clear visibility to the commands and road at the same time. Cheers from Argentina, lad!

We had a 2 1965 belvedere s with slant 6 engine s 1 was a sedan automatic transmission & the other was a station wagon 3 speed on the tree then we got a 1984 150 pickup truck slant 6 lean burn 4speed that was tired so i put 1977 slant 6 with2barrel carburetor in it .

Years ago, when it was just a slightly older car with some dents and rust, I had a 1964 Valiant with the slant six four speed. It was a 2 door, with bucket seats. New, it was a sporty car but it got used pretty hard and the front was banged up from a minor collision. The fenders and front bumper were bent. I bought it used and it was my main transportation to work for several years. It looked rough, but it was actually fun to drive. I learned if I burned premium gas I could advance the timing and get more horsepower from it. Back then premium was not a lot more expensive. The previous owner had to replace the differential when it got noisy and somehow ended up with a 355 axle. With the low first gear of the four speed and the 355 axle that thing could lunge off the line and surprise more than a few "hot cars" LOL. For awhile there were three other guys in my car pool, big guys and that little six pulled us all down the road with no problem. I eventually sold it to a guy who was restoring a Valiant wagon. He wanted the four speed and bucket seats to create a car Chrysler should have built. Every once in awhile I think of that car and hope he was able to finish that project. Maybe one day I'll see it at a car show?

Did anyone like the sound of the gear reduction starters in those old Darts?
@RodLininski Жыл бұрын
Personally, I love it. When I was young all the Dads in my neighborhood drove the tin-grill (1972-1980) power wagons. In the summer with the bedroom windows open those starters were my “alarm clock” when those guys left for work in the mornings.

Hey friend! I was wondering if this is your car and if the 1966 style still had the two crossed bars being used for the hood prop? I have a 1963 GT convertible and have been getting beat up by those two bars. Can’t seem to figure out how to get them to fit in the hood bracket in a safe manor lol. Would appreciate some guidance if possible!
@RodLininski Жыл бұрын
It does have the two bars… But I’ve never had to remove them. I wish I could help more. Sorry.
@jacquespoirier90712 жыл бұрын
that was the best setup for the slant six in a A body, the3 speed was not truly suitable for the torque characteristics of the slant and it breaks easily if driven a spirited way, the automatic was a catastrophe on the general performance of the car.
@fransmith8992 Жыл бұрын
the automatic tourqeflite was bullet proof . but you needed taller gears in the rear to get the performance out of the six cyl. remember, this was chrysler's economy car so it came with low gears to get better mileage. the automatic was definitely not a catastrophe.
