I agree the shit storm over the shirt was a fucking joke. I consider myself a liberal but I thought the shirt was fine. It was ugly, certainly. It was an odd choice in such a formal setting. But it wasn't misogynist, at all. It was just a tacky, ugly shirt. If that shirt offended you then just stop going outside because there's some shit out there that's gonna emotionally cripple you.

+SupernaturalMonkey well the shirt was apparently from a friend of his who designed it, it had a lot of sentimental value, so thats why he wore it for such an important moment, and the fact that the designer of the shirt turned out to be a woman makes the entire reason for the fuss being kicked up even more laughable

The Shadow Warrior remake, I think, did a superior job at combining the best of both worlds of classic and modern FPS. It looked very nice, had excellent character design and interaction, a surprisingly deep story (for the genre, anyways), brilliant nods to the original while adding in its own voice, and showers of blood, gore and mindless violence from beginning to end. You also carried all of your weapons with you; none of this two weapon bullshit.

Yeah, the hate over the guy's shirt got me mad, too. Like, when I first heard of it, I thought the shirt would have, I dunno, naked women with their privates blurred out or something 'cause people were making such a big deal about it. But it wasn't even that, it was just some bodacious cartoon characters showing cleavage! Like I know it wasn't the most professional attire but... why would you freak out over something so small when there are so many worse things going on in the world anyways?! D: The guy made a huge scientific discovery, too, but people weren't even focusing on that....

I think that regen health can work in some games. It works in Titanfall because it puts emphasis onto the whole run'n'gun aspect of the game, where you have a ridiculous movement speed and can increase momentum by pulling off wall-runs and jetpack jumps with precise timing. The regen health mechanic works because the focus isn't on circle strafing enemies and see who can keep their aim on their target the longest; the focus is on twitch reaction times and millisecond pinpoint precision. One of the first weapons you get in the game (the "noob" pistol to ease new players into the combat) is the auto lock on pistol that takes a few seconds to lock on to other players because they're so bloody fast. The trick is to keep that player in your sights just long enough to lock on and get the shot off. This teaches you, as you experiment with new weapons, to focus on where the enemy players are going to be, rather than on where they are. They're just as fast and mobile as you, and you need to be able to focus fire on them to get the kill.

survivalist101 GG is an internet movement dedicated to exposing corruption in gaming media. The spark that ignited "Gamer Gate" was a blog post written by the ex boyfriend of a female game designer called Zoë Quinn, where he writes about how she cheated on him with several other guys. One of the guys mentioned in his post turned out to be a gaming journalist that had covered Zoë on multiple occasions. Their relationship raised questions like if Zoë was being unfairly promoted. When confronted with these questions, the behavior of these gaming journalist websites was deplorable. They would not suffer any criticism. This lead to even more questions and further exposing of corruption such as rigged indie game developer competitions where the judges (who were also journalists) had a financial interest in the games they were voting for. Research Phil Fish's "Fez" if you're interested. Since however some of the people criticized by GG were female, the response of its opponents have been that GG is solely a movement dedicated to harassing women in video gaming. Which is a point that some gaming journalists have driven so far that they have threatened to end the career of any indie game developer who is positive of gamer gate. (speaking of harassment!)
@williamballiard335910 жыл бұрын
nalorcs Citation to the part where founoe raised claims about incidents, citing specifically to what incidents he is referring, and evidence that supports his interpretation of those incidents. Anyway, call it misogyny or don't, or maybe you don't want to ascribe motivation without evidence (speaking of ethical journalism!) but don't try to pretend that the link between Gamergate and harassment of women is just slander or that it's nothing more than a matter of guilt by association. skepchick.org/2014/10/the-top-10-reasons-to-ban-me-from-bay-area-science-festival/ twitter.com/Gingerhazing/status/536787988886614016 Above are a few examples that occurred to me while typing (since I stressed citation first) of misogynistic harassment under the Gamergate banner. Movements get hijacked by fringe elements because of the tangential results their goals offer. It's the same problem the 'Tea Party' tax protest movement has with racism because they happen to be protesting a black president. Just like the racists in the Tea Party, the misogynists in Gamergate are treating well-meaning activists as their personal army to attack women. There are even some well-meaning misogynists in the movement who think the biggest problem in game journalism is the undue prominence of feminism in games journalism (I can't find any references to support that in the time I'm willing to spend on this post, but I don't think that's a controversial point). For instance, before Gamergate, the likes of Anita Sarkeesian were harassed for their views regarding sexism in video games by mobs of anonymous trolls, but after Gamergate, that anonymous mob flocked to the Gamergate bandwagon. It may be unfair, but refusing to acknowledge when it happens does the movement a disservice. Ignoring these people, rather than challenging them or even leaving their movement, is the same as tolerating their beliefs and motives, and that's why people largely don't take Gamergate seriously, or only know of it as a campaign of harassment. Also, let's not overlook that 'Anti-GG' isn't an organized counter-movement, so it's wrong to associate every person against Gamergate with the actions and motives of anti-Gamergate activists. I know how hypocritical that sounds, after sounding off about Gamergate tolerating harassers, but the difference is that Gamergate is an organized movement who voluntarily associate under the Gamergate label. In other words, people harassing Gamergate proponents are just anonymous trolls; they don't have a bandwagon to flock to. That is, unless you're aware of some conspiracy theory I don't know about.

SourBitters "He didn't do it alone." No shit, that's why I said "he had _helped_ accomplish" It wasn't his coworkers who were upset. It was a so-called "journalist" and the screeching masses of the internet. Funny how feminists hate it when a woman is judged for her choice in outfits rather than her accomplishments but then they turn around and do the exact same thing. Before you reply: yes it is the exact same thing. Them getting offended by his tacky shirt is _exactly_ the same as some moral guardian getting offended when a woman shows what they consider too much cleavage.

All this "it's about harassment" nonsense is just that. Nonsense. If you want Gamergate to end try addressing the core issues of transparency and honesty in established media. If, after those concerns have been addressed, people still refuse to give up Gamergate, then - and only then - can you write it off as a 'hate movement', because all that will be left is hate. So far the media's only response has been "U BEE MISOGGYNEES!!one", and of course people with legitimate concerns are going to be pissed when you make accusations like that. If they keep fuelling the fire, you can't blame Gamergate supporters for getting heated. It's not in the media's best interest to give you a balanced and honest account of the situation. If the media has been less than honest in it's dealings they aren't going to tell you about it and implicate themselves in potentially criminal activity. No, they're going to use every tool at their disposal to discredit the people asking questions and to redirect attention. So before you take a side, at very least inform yourself. Try talking to people on both sides. You'll get a far more honest view of the situation if you talk with the people involved than you will listening to the professional propagandists of clickbait media.

It's pretty hard to listen to Gabe talk about how something awful's community is "good" and Yahtzee just verbally nods his head. Listen guys, SA as a community is a fucking joke. A decent portion of SA goons run around stirring up shit all over the net and being insufferable jerks. The rest of SA is permeated by radical politics and a "with us or against us" mentality that destroys any actual discussions. On top of that I have a real issue with the general goon crap that teaches people to act like they are, or actually be, ashamed of their interests. Instead of doing what you think would be fun and showing SA what you enjoy and finding others that enjoy those things too, you get hounded by the "community" the second you step out of the rigid set of "norms" on SA's unwritten rules list. TL:DR, SA has one of the most ban happy, one sided, troll ridden communities on the net right up there with NeoGaf for how stupid it can get.

I like the regenerating health as used in Halo, where some of the enemies also had regenerating health (Elites). It gives them more even footing, encourages you to avoid sitting back. Wouldn't the modern shooter games be more tense if the enemies also shared your health regen? I wish it were that way, but the masses would complain.

So... Yahtzee can't stay on the side of censorship but he can stay on the side of harassment? Not to mention the argument he made against internet feminists can very much be applied to gamegaters. What can they do against gaming corruption (if they could prove it, obviously)? Fuck all, nothing.
@Saufs0ldat10 жыл бұрын
Harassment and censorship are both on the same side, the anti-GG crowd.

So how many anti-gamgergaters have had SWAT teams called to their house illegally? How many gamergaters created a blacklist against peopel based on guilt by association? Stop being an idiot.
@werechicken196910 жыл бұрын
I think you've also demonstrated clearly why he's been so determined to stay out of this. Anyone who disagrees with anything you do in any way is automatically on the other side. Hence why the IGDA's Puerto Rico's president is on that blocklist for calling out the idiot saying gamergate supporters should be sent to nazi gas ovens.
@Leo-pw3kf10 жыл бұрын
Saufs0ldat sure, there are always bad apples on every group, but gamergate is rooted on toxicity. The videos that started it all, the Quinnspiracy series, had zero proof about its claims, it's pure specutlation. It basically qualifies as libel, wich is a crime, so it's not really censorship banning discussion about it.

Interstellar was such a great movie because it dealt with basic emotional and social problems alongside the subjects of space exploration and transhumanism. The problem with the shirtstorm divide is that some people value more the more direct problem of mundane sexism over the exploration of the universe, while other people don't even care about sexism to begin with.

There are people legitimately complaining about the latest Smash Bros saying like, "It's such bullshit that the game lowers your difficulty if you die." Then, there are veteran gamers who are like "What do you think the game's supposed to do? It's a penalty for losing. You lost. It's a punishment." To elaborate, it's because you pay in-game money to play on harder difficulties, and you lose the rewards you'd normally get if the game has to lower your difficulty... and for that matter, there are rewards for beating the game on the highest difficulty. So, without dying. Yep. I think the people who complain about that are the same people who are like "Bayonetta 2 is bullshit, I keep getting silver medals." It's like, guys, be glad you can even BEAT the game. They toned it down so much. You aren't even good at it.
