@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 3 жыл бұрын
It looks really complex but when you're working on them there's really just a few 'systems' laid on top of each other, so for instance a lot of that is for lightbulbs. Then other wires are running to coils, and other wires are running to switches. So depending on what you're working on, you can ignore a lot of the wires and just see the few wires that go to what you're interested in fixing.

Nice work on cleaning all that. Interesting about the score reset. My Dealers Choice fires the 3-4 player reset constantly when the score motor turns. Not a big deal for a 1 or 2 player game, but if points are on 3 or 4, they start advancing until they get to zero. I'll figure it out one day.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 3 жыл бұрын
That is a strange one, the 1and2 and 3-4 are fed by the same circuits so even if a switch was stuck it shouldn't do that, it would make the 1-2 one do it too. You may have a wire touching somewhere it should be... the only thing that separates those two relays is they use two different impulse switches to fire off the score motor, but if the impulse switch was stuck it wouldn't fire over and over again and it wouldn't fire anyways unless the reset relay was on. If the reset relay switch was the problem both the 1-2 and 3-4 would do it.

@@LyonsArcade I wonder what the pros and cons would be of designing a machine so that rather than running a reset sequence until the score reels are all zero, it would start a reset sequence before deducting a credit, run the reset sequence for a fixed length of time, and then either deduct a credit and start the game (if the reels were all zero) or else proceed directly to "game over" mode. If the machine fails to start, a player could push the button again to repeat the sequence without losing a credit unless/until that succeeds, but the machine wouldn't simply run forever.

JOE"S CLASSIC, The Jones Plugs are different sizes for Williams, Bally, Stern, Gottlieb? because you mentioned that the Jones Plugs are different sizes. I'm not sure why that one jones plug is Longer than the rest maybe that is considered the KEY so you can't plug it in backwards?

9:25 technically, there can be cases when a coils resistance can go down gradually - if there are a few findings in there where the coating has burned off, they short out and resistance goes down, along with the number of "effective" windings in the coil. With lower resistance, there's more Amps pushing through, so it probably has a slightly higher chance of failure, should it get stuck on again.

The bore brush thing reminds me of a joke. A kid was chewing gum in class and the teacher asked him, "What 3-letter word that starts with G is not allowed in class?" He said, "God." Isn't that the truth too? And the other g-word (fuegas de armas in Spanish) is something else he could have said.

Hey Ronnie, love all your pinball videos. Really appreciate you sharing all your knowledge on this stuff. I have a Four Million BC that I have pretty much got working except one problem I just can't figure out, which is killing me because I am sure it is something simple. Maybe you can help me out. Once the 1000 point score reel hits 9 and the 9 position switch is closed, it draws in the 10000 score reel coil and keeps it energized (pulled in) until another thousand points is reached then it releases it. Didnt realized this was happening until i burned up the coil. This happens every time the 9th position switches are closed and happens on all four players. What do you recommend me looking at? I cant find the problem an I am really getting frustrated at this point .
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
Ahhhh, that's an interesting one. So the way that thing works is, when it gets to 9, that switch on the 1000's reel stays closed, so that's correct. The next time the 1000 pt. relay pulses, it should pull in that 10,000 pt reel.... since yours does it immediately, and on all 4 players, it can only be 1 switch.... there is a switch on the 1000pt relay that ONLY pulses that 10,000pt reel, but if that switch is stuck closed, you would only get the issue you're seeing, so it's pretty much got to be that switch. Look on the 1000 pt relay, there is a switch with a yellow wire on one side, and a white wire on the other side. That switch must be stuck closed causing your problem....
@stevengentry9752
@stevengentry9752 Жыл бұрын
Thank you Ron. I was 99% sure the problem was in that 1000 relay. I must have cleaned and examined it 7 or 8 times but everything looked like it was operating correctly so figured the problem must have been somewhere else. But since you gave me your expert advice, I really dug into that relay. There was indeed a switch closed at all times regardless of the status of the relay. Looked like it was supposed to be that way (not part of any make or break switch). Slid a peice of paper in between the switch and problem disappeared. Bent that switch so it doesn't make contact and everything work great. Not really sure why that particular switch is there, nor do I care at this point. Everything is working!! 🥲. Thanks again for your advice on were that problem was, would not of found it if it wasn't for you insuring me the problem was there. Also appreciate all the videos. Thanks for taking all the time to film all of them.

graphite dust is an excellent lube, if lube is the right word, it makes things slippy without drag, as oil and grease do, maybe not a good idea on electrical contacts.

Silicon grease for nylon (any plastic) which is also safe on rubber (plumbers use it for rubber seals). Avoid lubricants that are petroleum based as they will destroy plastics.

Does the switch on the credit unit also disable the coin door mech? so when you have 25 credits and it hits that limit switch it disables the coil of the coin mech? That would solve the coil that needs to be on all the time (if present).... but that might introduce other issues i guess
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. That switch when it opens (because there's too many credits) it disables the coin door. The way the coin door coil works is, if the game is turned off, or that coil is turned off by that switch, the coil has a little wire on it that pushes into a slot on the coin mech, when the quarter falls through it hits that little wire and rolls out the front. You can disable that coil by just clipping the wire to it, and then bending the metal piece so it never blocks the coin mech...
@Jeroen_a
@Jeroen_a 3 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking it would be nice to let the machine know it has enough credits so it disables the coin mech and without snipping wires... you know... to keep it even more original. I don't know it that would introduce other things like the knocker not working (probably because it can't add a credit) or something :)
