One thing about opening chargers, especially laptop ones - easly you can open it with a petrol. Just put petrol on the join point line and wait couple of minutes. Charger opens itself.And great videos, lots of know how and best repairs without schematics.

I have seen this trick and it works, but it's not clear to me, what they meant with "Petrol" ? Petrol or Petroleum here in Belgium is the fuel used for little portable heaters, but that's more a oily liquid and doesn't dissolve glue or anything. Then we have "Benzine" or "Naft" that we put in gasoiline cars. This fuel is also called gas or petrol in some parts of the world. And then we have also "Diesel" wich is like the Petrol i mentioned, but for cars and heating our home. So can you explain which liquid you use exactly? Thanks in advance. Grts
@metalacos5 жыл бұрын
I used petrol from gas station (not Diesel). One that i put in lawn mower. And it's a miracle to me :)

Normally 12 to 18 the highest I have seen around a few amps max for cfl based monitor, the front snaps off. Red V+, black gnd., one yellow enable back light(on/off), other yellow brightness normally on the inverter board. More then likely 470 uf 16 volt in the 65 degree temp range the standard low end caps.

Easy fix in the end, nice one - I'm surprised you took the time to take the monitor apart before first checking the symptoms and then checking the output of the PSU first? In my experience checking and external PSU for output voltage is the first course of action but I get that the monitor would have been trying to draw a lot more current hence the voltage going up and down due to the bulging caps - they were both easy enough to take apart in the end so minimal effort :) 8V would seem to suggest that the overall screen design may have been used for portable applications in mind back in the day. Curious what the second cable apart from the VGA plug was? This would have given away that it was a touch screen, no? Interesting fix since it was just the PSU that was faulty - 8v 3.6A adaptors from Ingenico available at £15 ;)

I've never seen a monitor with so little inside, it has to be for a computer that must have that touch type only, that's the reason the owner will pay. 8 volts is a bit odd though.

Hello Sorin, i think this would be a good idea to invest in a small hand solder pumps as Ersa or Antex , it is cheap and very convinient to remove components. i have both these brands since a while they are not bad at all.

i hate prying open plastoc cases. the older it is the more brittle it gets. and yes injuring yourself is a big concern. you need really strong sharp tools on most of them to get it started. i save the old ends off power bricks so i can use the plugs with my power supply but it still seems you never have the right ones.

It disappoints me that modern day motherboards use those military style solid caps and gone are the days of being able to instantly see those bulges. I remember about 15 years ago, opening a satellite receiver because it was only receiving channels on the horizontal and not the vertical(or the other way round) and instantly seeing a bulging cap, I replaced it and job done....I thought it was gonna be a chip or something and doubted I would be able to fix it, yet it was a 10 minute job.
@orionnebula72884 жыл бұрын
It's not weird, it's custom made. Universal LVDS controller, universal inverter etc. Case without markings - part of the kit? Anyway, usually controllers have either USB port for flashing either set of jumpers to determine resolution. This one has none, so I presume the chip was directly flashed. Small batches for some kind of specialized equipment? Medical?

Easy way to the these external power supply is to use 12V brake light from a car you can do 12v to 24v with that globe , it puts a load on the power supply , if the light is blinking on and off then you know its the power supply ,Quick and easy , before you even open the monitor
