Let's Go Back to Marina AND THE DIAMONDS ~ *Family Jewels Album Reaction*

The family jewels makes me feel both motivated at distraught at the same time. If you didn’t know, this album is mostly about her dysfunctional family after the divorce of her parents and he struggling with the pressures to succeed and live up to it. Knowing that background information made me appreciate this album even more, it also helps me appreciate the songs I used to hate a lot more. I want to talk about the title song in particular and how it portrays her abusive family. Already from the first line it gets me with the “I can’t break the cycle, I’m not just a fool” which is talking about the cycle of abuse that is passed on as well as generational trauma. It’s also good to note that Marina’s last name is Diamondis, which obviously sounds a lot like ‘diamonds’ hence the ‘family jewels’. Also, Rootless is about her having to constantly move around after her parents were separated, making her feel foreign and not belonging, like a tree, as soon as she got planted down she was ripped out and brought to another place Tldr: Maria has way too much trauma and decided to grace us with these albums

marina’s been my favorite singer for years, i know every single song from her word for word, you don’t understand how overjoyed i am to watch you react to her😭😭!! This album is wild !!! Each song has its own sound I read from a fan that Guilty was about a dream she had, she killed a dog? I like to compare Hollywood & Venus Fly Trap How she was obsessed with Hollywood but in VFT she sings " I never quite fit in to that Hollywood thing" Mowgli's Road is one of my favorites & it's definitely her most wildest song Love your reaction!!! Guilty is about a dream marina had. In the dream her friend asked her to look her this really expensive dog. Everytime she would touch the dog she would hurt them, hence the lyrics "Touched his techni-coloured hair I left it bruised and black and lame". She eventally killed the dog by accident. She had to make a choice, to either own up to killing the dog or she could hide the body and run away. In the dream she chose to run away. The song is about living your life in fear and running away from your probelms. In the bridge of the song she explains that she realised that shes actual sorry for her crimes and that she doesnt want to run anymore. I think a lot of it explains where her mentality was at during the creation of "The Family Jewels".

so many people say this album is her worst, however I disagree because I hate (not really) Love + Fear is my least favorite album. I still love it however The Family Jewels is my favorite. Loved the reaction (ALSO FINALLY SOMEONE LISTENS TO THE DELUXE VERSION AS WELL)

Great reaction, this álbum is a little eccentric, but has some good ones. I've always thought that numb, are you satisfied, I'm not a robot and oh no, are about the journey of Marina to get a récord label and made his first álbum. She seems to be very depressed, she has no time for friends or family. She put all his time and effort into it. Can't wait for the next álbum 😁😊 (sorry my english) 🇨🇱

Loved this reaction and I love this album so much. I agree with Guilty, Rootless and The Outsider, those are the songs I don't like very much but I love the rest of them. Late to the party here, great reaction! This will always be my fave album of hers because I found her right when Electra Heart came out so it always brings me waaaay back haha. I enjoy Electra Heart but it’s a little too pop rock for my taste, I definitely suggest checking out the acoustic versions/videos after you listen to the album itself. Also Teen Idle live, SO GOOD! If you haven’t ever heard her, I highly recommend Aurora!

Oh No! stop right now before you listen to any more of her albums as the sorceress songstress will have you completely under her spell 🪄 and she will become one of your "Obsessions" Seriously though it is the quirkiness of her early songwriting that first grabbed the attention of people in the UK where this album actually reached number 5 in the charts. Marina has achieved an almost cult like status of success with an adoring legion of loyal fans without getting the intensive radio play that other artists have received. All of her forthcoming UK and EU ADIAML tour dates are sold out as were many of her present US shows. Marina never fails to deliver a brilliant live performance with her superb vocals, synchronised quirky dance moves and the interactive singing with her audience who of course know the words to all of the songs. Marina might not be everybody's cup of tea ☕ but she is nobody's mug.🍺👍

I think the glass balloon in Hermit the Frog represents the relationship, two thinks that a fragile glass and a balloon representing a relationship that isnt built to last. I think it is about a toxic relationship and and I think the burst of the glass ballon represents her having enough of it. Some fans think its about her regreting losing her virginity to someone.
