First time I was like "Oh, I wonder if he asked those people if he could film them". Second time I was like "Oh, that's Penelope and Kathleen". It's especially weird because I've been watching old Desert Buses so my image of Penelope is that she's ankle high and excited about pictures of owls in chat.

I'm eating breakfast while watching this and my eyes are really blurry first thing in the morning so it took me all the way until the river crossing, over four and a half minutes in, to realize that Graham wasn't just filming a random woman and her kid, which would have been a very strange thing for him to do.

Do you use any kind of stabilizing holder to hold your phone while filming? Or rather what do you hold your phone with? Since there's clearly something in the shadow.
@GrahamStarkVlogs3 жыл бұрын
It’s not a gimbal, if that’s what you mean. I use a small hand grip (basically a piece of wood with a tripod thread), and a Glif clamp to attach the phone. No stabilization other than my hand and the iPhone’s shockingly good hardware.
@thecolortwelve37843 жыл бұрын
I was assuming, after having gotten further into the video, it wasn't a gimbal since you called it a handle. The gamble of posting a comment before finishing. Thank you for the prompt answer.
@FoxNoodleSoup3 жыл бұрын
There was, not a ton but a noticeable amount, more shakiness with the Moment lens. I wonder if the built-in ultrawide uses some kind of automatic image stabilization in the software that the wide doesn't cause even when you were walking with it, it felt a lot smoother. (or maybe the lens just makes the phone awkward to hold and was causing your hand to shake slightly more)

@andrewhayes80763 жыл бұрын
One more piece of feedback in the on-board camera v Moment lens. The Moment lens introduces much more small movement to the shots. If you watch the edge of frame in the comparison around 5:28, you can see that the Moment lens has much more movement than the on-board camera. There are probably multiple reasons for this; the fact that it's a lens mounted to a case probably has some give, the additional size exaggerates any existing movement, the weight means more corrective movement, etc.

It's interesting that the iPhone "ultra-wide" camera seems to be doing some kind of (quite good!) software correction to get rid of the warping around the edges that wide-angle lenses bring. It also looks like it's doing some stabilization; the footage with the Moment wide-angle looks a little more sensitive to hand movement. It's pretty remarkable how good the built-in ultra-wide looks! Honestly wondering if we're ever going to stop saying we take pictures on our phone and start saying we send texts on our cameras... And agree with everyone, those brutalist? river crossing stones were awesome! And the 70s park sign font. (Also loved it when Graham was like "I have played many knock-off Myst games that have a section like this... OK do you go that way, this way, that way? You'll have to backtrack through here a lot." And Penelope was like "oh that's easy SNAP CHOOSE MUDDY PATH" Graham you need to stop asking questions you don't want the answers to. XD)
