this album hits REALLY HARD like from the album cover to the songs make me feel so sad. for example: the album cover is a reference to the book “The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Nighttime” which is about a teenage boy with autism discovering his neighbours dog being murdered by a pitchfork - now the dog ends up kind of being a red herring and the true meaning of the story is how he experiences the world so differently to everyone else and how he is navigating life with the “loss” of his mother but in Mammalalian Sighing Reflex instead of the boy being the one seeing the murder, it’s the dog (which is a reference to wilbur’s audience) and the boy (Wilbur) is the one who is dead. The song that hits hardest to me is Around The Pomegranate because it’s implied to be about Wilbur’s late friend and fellow content creator Technoblade who past away last year to his battle with sarcoma cancer. The title itself is a reference to Techno’s love for greek mythology and how the fruit of pomegranate was described as the “fruit of death” which is what Hades used to keep Persephone in the underworld for the entire year apart from the spring months. Pomegranates are also known as the “seeded apple” which is an important story to Wilbur and Technoblade as when they met in person for the first time they both picked apples in an orchard together and he mentioned on stream that it was his favourite memory of him. “i don’t think it will ever get better” is another one that hits hard as people have realised that he is creating it to be like his twitch chat; they only pick up on the very funny moments or the very sad and almost feels like they mock him. The song is very reminiscent of Bo Burnham’s “All Time Low” which is an inspirational artist of Wilbur’s

wilbur hasnt said anything about when this album was written (or really talked about the album at all haha) but I wouldnt be surprised if these songs have been worked on since 2020. he had joked on a stream back in nov 2020 about how he was going to name one of his songs top heavy amazon standing lamp, so the album is probably a collection of songs hes written over the past 3 years

I'd argue that Eulogy is potentially for Technoblade, between the imagery of a sick person that won't be here for long and the coughing in the background But also I think there's little pieces of Technoblade in the entire album. There's lines in almost every song that could line up with Techno and specifically Wilbur's grief around his death. He was definitely thinking about Techno when he wrote this album, even if some of the songs were written before Techno died.
@charley_warlzz
@charley_warlzz Жыл бұрын
@@TiaGems thats an assumption, though. I agree that he was probably thinking about techno at somepoints, but we dont know that, we’re making assumptions and trying to get the songs to fit it. It just seems weird to me that people are so confidently going ‘x song/line is clearly about technoblade’ when not only do we not have any confirmation, but one of the songs literally mentions not wanting people to misinterpret the songs or try and figure out what he meant. The entire technoblade situation is very very personal, its weird to talk about it like that.
@TiaGems
@TiaGems Жыл бұрын
@@charley_warlzz In a vacuum it's weird, yes. But 15 million people are grieving Technoblade, not just his friends and family, so when someone who is just as famous and was very close to him writes an album that features grief and depression very heavily, of course people are going to latch onto it. There's also the fact that earlier this year, a certain youtuber who I won't name for fear of summoning his fans released a pretty bad song that was specifically about Technoblade, which left a lot of people wanting a song from the guy who was actually close to Techno and also an actual musician who knows how to write. Also the line about not wanting to be misunderstood is right after a line about not wanting to say what he really means. It's a contradiction that's meant to highlight how weird and nebulous and nonsensical his emotions are, which make them hard to process as a result.
@charley_warlzz
@charley_warlzz Жыл бұрын
@@TiaGems you do understand the difference between fans grieving him and the way his irl very close friends do, right? Its totally fine for people to relate to certain lines bc theyre grieving technoblade, im not saying otherwise. I just mean that trying to theorise about what lines and songs fit what aspects of someones very personal grieving process is weird, in an inappropriate way. ‘This line makes me think of techno’ and ‘this line was 100% written about techno/i bet this song is about techno’ are two very different approaches.

Just thought I would let you know I'm doing okay and the album was a great way for me to process and eat up some complex emotions. The bits in "Dropped Shipped Cat Shirt" where he mentions "how nice it must be, to feel so bored" and needing to "find someone to tell him he's just tired" is based off how he over works himself. *Around The Pomegranate* Welcome me to spruce-bound Californian communes These altruistic metaphors my brain force me to misconstrue In my mind, I'm standing there sunkissed in June In rapid eye moves, I fall right back to you I don't want to go You don't want to game No one else can save me There's someone in your walls Where do you run When there's nowhere else to turn to? Hope you were good and watch you- I haven't touched a bike since last year I haven't felt the sea It's pointless point projection I used to paint these pictures of me In my mind, I'm everything you said was true In rapid eye moves, I fall right back to you Every night I marry a different crowd Canals of fire, when every voice sounds so loud I just want to feel normal again I just want to have meals with my friend I just can't go through this again Find my comfort in envisioning the end

*I don't think it will ever end* *(Spoken:)* Hey guys Do you wanna, do you wanna hear something funny? (Yeah) So uh, I find myself in these cycles like a figure of eight And it goes like this I get sad (He gets sad) And uh, I hide myself away for a bit which is, which is fine But then in hiding myself I feel silly (He feels silly) And um, responsively I start forcing myself to go out and interact with people again Then in doing so, uh, I feel sad (He feels sad) Which is not a good feeling when you're supposedly in a good phase So as almost a self-sabotage, if you will, uh I get silly (He gets silly) And thеn uh, um, I don't know …I'll write something elsе

*Glass Chalet* *_(Spoken:)_* _There's another one that I wrote to the tune of-_ _Let me see how it goes_ I've lost my way And when this is done I'm running away And when I have gone I'll be where I'll stay Like a bicycle And bright blue waves And I'll shave my head And forget my name 'Cause I'll kill it dead Yes, I'll kill it dead *_(Spoken:)_* _I'm sorry for what I was saying about you_ _Believe me, I'm being really serious here_ I'm digging up old bones Use a trеbuchet I'm throwing stones From a glass chalet Hopе it comes back home Like a boomerang Hit my frontal lobe See it set free I still have hope But I kill it dead Yes, I kill it dead I hope, oh Between you and me It sounds horrible

*Melatonin 130* The melatonin doesn't work anymore The Valium just stops the hurt But not the cortisol If I can teleport from here I'll choose the Midway Atoll Or just the space in between your neck Where it meets your shoulder But just this once (But just this once) I'd like to see the world in three-dimensions Keep wasting 'til you're shed, we keep it simple The breathing exercises hurt and don't do fuck-all He said, "The beta-blockers work, but there's a system The anxiety's not the cause, it's just a symptom" But I know you I'll live with you until our bones grow old I'll still pick you like a scab or a mole And I'll pull you into a dive or a stall Ain't that miserable? Ain't that miserable? Ain't that miserable? Help, why the fuck do I still self-sabotage When I'm finally happy Oh, oh Woo, wa! Wa! Wa! Oh, hey, hey, yeah, yeah, yeah So it turns out everyone just hopes to God you're failing And if you claim that you eat my words Then take this as a warning Nothing around here fucking works We're just flat-out boring We're all apes with a diary book And corporate reads your pages _(I've just been doing, like, music and stuff)_

*Oh, Distant You* I remember it well Smoked the last of the weed beside your armchair Said you were tired You said you need something, need something to hold So I gave you my coat You chose to lean on me, lean on me instead (Oh, oh) I hate the way that I talk When the words won't give off The kind of praise esteemed of you And what the hell could I say When you're two stars from grace And the world turns for you? I'm just saying, man If the Lord worked oh so kindly He could whip me up a clone of you But I still wouldn't glance 'Cause the thought of someone further 'Cause I'd have to take a month off work To sit down in the kitchen And explain all our in-jokes And teach her all our fiction And cry with her to Wall-E And still, I'd fuckin' miss ya And finally, it hit me That I was not the fix-all I was just the villain And every single modicum of energy I gave to all the little things Compounded my placidity And drove out all the good things And made life, oh, so heavy And now I can't wake up and talk to you Oh, distant you Oh, gorgeous you Oh, you
