Tactical primer flipping tray...😂🤣 From what I hear, those 200gr "poluce specials" hit HARD! Without a lot of over penetration.

I think if you investigate, you will NOT find any theory or expectation that the 200 gr .38 loads tumbled, during the period the 200 gr loads were considered effective. Tumbling was a later concept, and although this idea is almost always repeated nowadays, that was not something anyone thought about in connection with those loads in the 30s, 40s, or 50s. The idea of a tumbling 200 gr .38 is one of those ideas that has been repeated so many times people take it on faith to be true. But it isn't. In the US, before any real "scientific" testing, thanks to the Thompson/LaGarde tests, we liked heavy bullet, high momentum cartridges and loads. Heavier bullets were believed to be more effective, just by virtue of their greater mass. The British had a pistol effectiveness concept they characterized as "dwell time." In this context the term referred to the interval of time it took for a bullet to transit (penetrate, and/or perforate, ie, create a through-and-through wound in) the intended target. The concept was, the longer the interval of time the bullet took to transit, the better. The longer transit time was believed to have more impact on the consciousness, or nervous system, of the target. Where that concept came from, I couldn't say, but that was the belief. For that kind of effect, a heavy for caliber, slow-moving bullet performed as desired. So they developed the .38 S&W cartridge into their version of the 200 Super Police (.380/200). American companies also loaded .38 S&W 200 gr ammo, and a .38 Special 200 gr version also. The first time the tumbling bullet concept was put forward to my knowledge was in the 60s in connection with the US Army's new 5.56 rifle round. The tumbling bullet concept seemed very revolutionary at that time. I wish the .38 200 gr tumbling bullet story would stop being repeated over and over again. For one thing, it's not true. For another, today we see many bullets, from .22 rimfire to .45, tumbling (or more correctly, yawing) in gelatin tests, ending up base-forwards. This includes every type of bullet design, including FMJ and JHP or SJHP bullets, whether they expand or not. Otherwise, good video!

Thank you for the well thought out and detailed explanation. I will admit, I didn't dig much deeper than a wiki article and a few other videos on here. I still need to do a follow up with these, get some chrono data, and see if they still keyhole in a new gun. If/when I get to that, I'll try to throw some of this in there. Thanks for watching🇺🇸👍👊
