I have a dry tumbler for my nasty, muddy, corroded brass. But after depriming with my Universal decapping die, I run all of it through my wet tumbler, getting the brass to a shiny state. Takes longer, but I'm not in that big of a hurry. And it gives me more opportunities to check the unknown brass for splits, etc. Good call on these scalpers. If people would stop panicking about shortages, and stop enabling these scalpers, prices would get back to a more reasonable level. 👍🇺🇸

I'm wanting to get a wet tumbler some day, but there's a lot of other toys in front of it on the list. I'll have to just slosh some around in a bucket of soapy water for now. This muddy brass I keep collecting is destroying my walnut after a cycle or two. I've heard you can wash the media, but I might as well just wash the brass first. Thanks, Jerry 👍👊🇺🇸

@DummyRound3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've got a good start, and the 550s should work just fine for you! This Titewad should last up to 2000 rounds per pound at that charge weight, and only cost $0.01. Your Bluedot and Unique might not stretch as far, but they will give better velocities. Thanks for watching!

@@DummyRound I mentioned before, that the other guy named Michael (something) had the best advice for it. He was using tweezers to hold the primer cups to scoop it. I did that with all but my first batch and lost no product to spillage. I used yellow Heat to activate the hardener and provide lubrication for the packing and assembly stage. It appears to have worked out. I tested a little loose powder and I wouldn't ever consider mixing a double batch. The stuff is touchy. Each batch was good for 25 to 30 small primers.

Ive been reloading flat nose 124gr (hollow base) with 3gr of titewad, will stovepipe or FTE when its cold (30degF). I use 3gr powder because I cannot seat the flat nose bullet at the 1.15 COAL (per hodgdon data) for my loads to pass the plunk test; I must load to 1.12 COAL, but when go higher on the powder charge I do not get much of a pressure increase and a bit of unburned powder. The 2.7 - 2.9 range was much cleaner but did not cycle as well as the 3gr. Do you think I should wait until warmer weather to say these bullets wont run with titewad?
@DummyRound2 жыл бұрын
I believe Hodgdon lists a max charge of 3.4gr with a 124gr projectile using Titewad. I tested 3.0gr, 3.2gr, and 3.4gr, and did not get reliable function until the max change of 3.4gr in my clunky/heavy Ruger P95. I would suggest trying out 3.1gr and 3.3gr to test function and see if you get hold open on the last round. If 3.3gr works then I would go with that, that way if you throw .1 over you'll still be at or under max. Good luck and be safe!

@@DummyRound Thanks ill give it a shot, ha. Im new to reloading and trying to figure out how pressure changes when OAL changes. Keep doing your thang, its great and I am learning a ton!
@DummyRound2 жыл бұрын
@@D4nnypery once you get an OAL that passes the plunk test, then start your load development. Then, later when you have your charge established, you can play with shortening your OAL. Changing both at once can lead to higher pressures much faster than expected so I stick with 1 variable at a time, if possible. Be safe! 👍

@DummyRound2 жыл бұрын
When this was filmed, cost and availability. TW has far less data available for pistol cartridges and is much faster burning. TG works better in a powder measure because it's spherical, rather than flake shaped. They are very different and not interchangeable.

Big Dummy.. Hey, the Dillon 550 is a great press, however, if you are in the mood just to spend time loading, crafting, and spending time doing it, the Dillon isn't the press for you, 50 rounds is nothing and if you are looking for a fix, the experience is short. I believe that the 550 is the perfect press in the Dillon lineup, it will make a heap ton of ammunition in short order. the press is the right speed as you manually advance and that becomes a checkpoint between cycling the press handle. Just the right speed, also, it can be operated slowly so that individual rounds can be inspected hassle-free as there is enough room to get your fingers under the dies and in the operating platform. Btw, you need to invest in a wet tumbler. once you start wet tumbling,, you will never look back at all that dust, plus, your brass will always come out looking new and restored. -Dave
