Looked at that and thought no way it's going to look right and you proved me wrong.....Nice work.

Haha! Well that’s good! I can get this type of grate material at the scrapyard for cheap so it was the obvious choice and it is very stout!

I just took delivery on a grill guard that was custom made for me. Another you tube friend wanted to do something nice for me so he had his buddy that made my guard cut out a design that reads "Tractor Talk" for me. You did an awesome job on yours and it certainly will be strong. Not having a grill guard is taking a huge risk. There is some pretty expensive stuff that can be destroyed by a rogue stick very quickly. Thanks for sharing. Awesome job.

Yes it really is! I wanted something stronger than the expanded metal that many were using and I wanted a somewhat factory look. Something others might think came from the factory like this. Thanks for watching!

That’s an excellent job Chris. I have an MX 5200-A green 2 inch limb came in the bottom rectangular hole and cost me $$. So you might save you some money putting something in that rectangular hole at the bottom. Love your design!
@shopdoc2 жыл бұрын
I’ll definitely have to consider something there for protection in the future. Good advice!
@garymccarver50062 жыл бұрын
Looks great and heavy duty for sure, but in my experience the gaps in the grating will still let sticks through large enough to punch out the lights and radiator. I used 3/8s gap tempered expanded metal. But with risk involved in pushing brush, anything is certainly better than nothing.
@shopdoc2 жыл бұрын
Yep I would agree but this is what I had gotten fro the scrapyard for super cheap......25 cents per pound. I may try and eliminate the opening at the bottom since it has greater risk of permitting foreign material into the grill area.

@@shopdoc I do like the look and the strength in yours. I love fabricating stuff like this. The grill guard on my L3130 has round tube cross members. I cut the expanded metal to fit the inside profile of the guard. Then drilled and tapped the front edge of the tube and attached the metal to the front with stainless fender washers and hardware. Didn't like the idea of welding it. If you ever damaged it, a lot of cutting and grinding involved in replacing it.
@shopdoc2 жыл бұрын
Fantastic idea! Inevitably you would damage the expanded metal and replacement would be simple! I like using stainless as well.

Excellent video. About to tackle the same project on my Kubota Grand L 5740. Agree that the music is a distraction. Better without it. Regards Doron

Thanks for the input Doran. I have recently been putting the music at 50% in my current videos so I am hoping that helps with those who prefer no music.

Hey Trey! Great to hear from you! Yeah we just got this tractor a month ago. It's an L3560 and it is nice but not perfect.......there's always room for improvement. Hope you and Amy are doing well. I'll probably stop by when I visit my mom soon.

Now thats a grill guard !!!
@shopdoc2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I did not like the expanded metal that I saw others welding to their grills so I came up with what I feel is far better.....not just in looks but functionally it should hold when put to the test.

I am a Certified Welder with many yrs of metal fabrication and assembly experience and I bought a 5/11 heavy Grill Guard for my Kubota L 4701 . It’s very strong, looks great and is priced well. Yea if you have the equipment and know how , fine. Most don’t. Besides your guard is inferior to the one I bought. Yea you made it but time is money and you’ve spent more and have less, just calling a spade a spade.

Nice job, I have some bar grating that is black not galvanized that I might try for my L2501
@shopdoc3 жыл бұрын
I would think that would work very well! Good luck!

Nice job, I would like to do that on my L2501. Especially the lower part.

It really has worked great for me. The L2501 is an awesome tractor! Make a good grill because you'll have it a long time.

Great job Chris. Glad to see the old Idealarc get to have fun. Those zinc fumes are bad stuff. One advantage to using a stick machine is having a fan to blow the fumes away. Obviously not an option with mig process
@shopdoc4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually have an exhaust fan above that sucks the smoke and fumes out of the shop. It helps a lot but is not perfect.

Could have used a way to remove the galvanized coating before welding?
@shopdoc2 жыл бұрын
Yes that would have been a good idea! I hate welding galvanized metal.
@mikemichaels18753 жыл бұрын
You could knock over trees with that guard!
@shopdoc3 жыл бұрын
HahA! Yeah that's the idea. I also wanted to make something that looked a little more factory in it's quality. The expanded metal mesh just was not doing it for me. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Excellent job. Gave me great ideas. The only thing about your video is the unnecessary music in the background. Regards
@shopdoc3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I often wonder if I should edit in the music??? I'd love to know if more people dislike them than like them but not sure how to do that?? Thanks for the input.

A well done job. Looks good. Any issues with shadows from the lights at night ? My biggest issue with the guard on mine is it shakes sideways when I am on logging roads, your guard would eliminate that. Thanks.

Honestly I cannot tell a difference with my lighting. They still seem to work very well despite the grille. I love it!
