I've missed your paintings! Your commentary, overpaints, SCP paintings, etc are what captivated me. I learned a lot about my own art from your videos. I've become a game dev, myself, so I've njoyed the game dev stuff too, don't get me wrong, but I am excited by the thought of painting content making a return!

For the empty back issue you could do something like what resident evil 2 did. Leon starts his journey with his everyday jacket on that doesnt have much back detail, but as the game progresses he finds and puts on a police outfit that has the R.P.D logo on the back of it. Later as he finds bigger guns, such as a flame thrower he also puts those on his back. So John could also do something similar, he could find maybe a bulletproof vest with some branding on it. (though that probably wouldn't fit the game very much i'm not sure) He could also find different clothing maybe after his jacket rips or gets damaged in some way, or perhaps the damage on the jacket itself could be the detail.

Yeah, I think you do need concept art (as well as mood boards and all that) to keep yourself on track, style-wise.

Christmas came early this year with a new Boro painting video! :D I just feel like I want to share this, but I have no idea where I'd be without your painting videos. I still always say you're the one who thought me more than anyone else about it. Seeing an occasional painting video from you would mean so much more to me than I can express by any words. I'm not a tech-focused person and I'm not planning on learning game dev, but I'm more excited about your game and what you'll do with it than ever. Enough emotions, monster guts go splash splash!

24:25 the way I solved that is by connecting a second keyboard that is positioned to the right of the tablet. It's compact with no f row and no numpad. Whenever I need to type I put my hands on separate keyboards and it works great, like a split keyboard but even more modular. You do need to be able to type "properly" with all 10 fingers though.

Regarding the empty back issue, here are some of my suggestions. Easiest- He finds a backpack somewhere. Medium- Some key item is kept on the back like weapons in most games. Hard- For survival, he makes a rope with vines and wraps it around (Would be better if the rope has some use in game.).

Not that your game needs them, but "notes" can be an easy way add to world build. I agree they shouldn't be something that takes you out of the game though. I like them as a kind of easter egg if you search around a lot. Encourages exploring for those that are interested too.

9:11 Maybe try to think about something like in Space Dead (if I remember correctly), the back of the character had a gauge on the suit to represent the remaining life of the character. For your realistic game, maybe the clothes are torn more and more (some scratches => part of his shirt is visible => skin is visible with blood) based on the damaged received by John. Or maybe, depending on your game idea, add an oxygen tank to add some stress to the gameplay.

Yay! More painting! Loving the concept. You definitely nailed the environment. Right now I feel like something needs to tie the monster into the location slightly more, like maybe it’s gotten a bit mossy, or there’s some lichen or fungus growing. You don’t want to get too close to the last of us zombies of course with all the fungus and everything, but something just to feel like these things have been out there for a while, so it makes sense that you run into them in the forest. Anyway, I’m very excited for you! Can’t wait for what’s next whether it’s painting or 3D or game dev

I think it's tottaly reasonable to the caracther to be carring a bag. Look, if he is in a city park, and mostly urban cities are full of outside city workers, it's ok to have a easy to access water bottle, umbrella, tissues, documents, notebook. I'm brazilian, and live about 40Km of the city center, me and aswell most of the people I see there uses backpacks. It's strange to me for him to have a gun, but not a backpack. It could be a side bag, with limited space. It's a nice to have :)

I like how far you've come with the game. It's sounds really interesting and scary. For most, making a game is a pipedream, and as soon as they find out how much work it is, they back out, so I think this is really impressive. I agree with the notes that it takes away from the immersion- it also conflicts with "show not tell". it's ok to use sometimes but its easily overused. Making concept art and seeing things from different perspective is useful. You can also design the promo material that way,- which part is visually the most interesting.

Talking about focusing on different areas of the project, don't forget to iterate the gameplay, even if for the moment just with placeholder models and stuff; it's not easy to make a game succeed on visuals alone if the gameplay isn't enjoyable.

Have you seen the movie nope from Jordan Peele? The mystery/scary element comes from a cloud that doesn't move. What you said about the time not moving and debating wether or not to add clouds to the game reminded me of that

I think notes are only useful when they're thoughts from the protagonist analyzing plot points or items to establish their character. I do not think plot points or lore should be shared by notes you just pick up off the ground. Maybe letters or journals for when there is a more investigatory puzzle segment of the game to find clues and stuff. I really missed your painting though. I'm excited for you to experiment with tone in these concept paintings.

When it comes to the weirdness of old trees, I think you could go even further if you want to. Before humans, all of Europe used to be basically one huge forest. Who knows what you could find in there? Let alone in an infinite forest! Well, the remaining rainforests are probably the best examples we have.

Your art was the reason I started following like, 7 years ago. All the videogame dev and 3d modelling is so mindnumbingly boring that it's been tempting to unfollow just because you've evidently found something new to keep your attention and spur your passion that conflicts entirely with the reaspons I was here. I still use your first brush packs, your your 'light palette', your examples of 16/32bit channels to render bokeh correctly, and every other technique you've passed over, and I feel bad for not caring about any of the stuff you've been doing lately enough to warrant sitting through a video. I do hope you do more art videos, it would be great to come back.
