Age of empires 1 and 2 got me in to history so looking forward to watching this. I only new the first video was real as I have visited that battlefield before. It was good to see they are using real life drone footage in the game I thought that was cool and it might get more people to look at the real history.

It's a really cool way to tell the story leading up to key events. Never seen anything like it before and yet it works so well. In the next video they fly over some castles of the period that I've visited before so I too got that sense of familiarity you must've got from seeing the Hastings battlefield.

11:15 "Why didn't we use our full army to begin with?" Well, it's an actual strategy to maintain reserves to either strengthen a weak position or to crush a weak enemy defense. As such, your men were just being competent.

In actual war I suppose that's true. But in gaming this doesn't hold up because I have perfect information due to my eye in the sky surveying the entire battlefield. Personally I blame my army for not reacting to the fact that I somehow can view the entire battlefield from above. I have high standards.

"I thought it was the best CG I've ever seen. Then I realized it was actual footage and felt foolish." Haha, I went through the same series of thoughts. Also, holy crap, I didn't know Hastings is so gorgeous. That is some serious natural beauty.

The castles scattered about are incredible too. Well worth a visit for anyone nearby!

I can't believe they made a good game after AoE 3 which I hated a lot. Unsure if this better than AoE 2,we'll see. Have you tried Empire Earth (the first one) ? Still holds up right, goes from the prehistorical age (including campaigns with real story/events) to nano age (a very futuristic age far from what we can think of technology today). To me is like this kind of games (where you can progress through ages) but adding way more ages/upgrades/units/heroes than most RTS of the time and even today standards.

Never tried it but I have heard people talk of it fondly before. Also I never played AoE2 very much (dabbled a little, nothing more) but I see lots of long time AoE2 players saying they'll probably stick with AoE2. A lot of that is not wanting to give up what you've invested so much time into though I imagine, and hopefully AoE4 will attract a bunch of brand new players to the genre.

I'm not going to say it's the best RTS I've ever played but it's certainly enjoyable. RTS as a genre is struggling a lot lately so I'm just grateful to have a new game with an active player base, that hasn't been overly simplified down and shipped out as a mobile game.
