Hopefully, you have seen Richard from Too Fat Lardies introducing the WW2 skirmish system Chain of Command in our previous video. The time for talking is over, now it is time to get down to business!
Justin and Richard will be playing a Dunkirk scenario with the British defending the Orne canal line whilst the Germans are attempting to get their tanks over the canal to the beaches.
This is a great introduction for anyone who has yet to play the game with Richard explaining the rules and mechanics as they play.
Has this enticed you to give Chain of Command a go?

I like when Richard looks over at the camera and gives us a little eyebrow raise and a joke. Makes it feel like we're his friend he brought along to his mates house. Great fun

Fantastic video, showing these rules in action, and giving a taste of how they work. It certainly generates a story to what happens, with its uncertainty of what will happen next. I play 28mm ww2 using another rule set at the moment, but will certainly try this sometime! More T.F.L. please.

@1:57:00 I believe this is done incorrectly. While the fire of the Bren is focused on the MG42 team, and they have a lot of shock, as per the rules, the *effects* of shock (in regards pinning and breaking) are spread across all sections within 4"the MG42 team (down to one man) and the rifle section adjacent. This makes perfect sense as they are in the same squad, right next to each other.

KamikazeBadger we play it at our local group and it is a fantastic rule set that gives you ( as a commander ) many tactical challenges. Is it perfect? No. But damn it's close. 15mm is a really nice scale for it as you get a real feeling of ground scale. If you get it you won't regret it.

My imagination was visualizing the battle. With sharpes practice and chain of command I feel have a little more spice than your average wargame rules. I always believe in Morale and command is very important in wargames (usually portrayed too general or focused on kills and firepower). I think you really need to have a counter for knocking down command levels to easy to lose track, it really shows how important on all actions and can change the outcome dramatically if players forget. Im not sure I like the dice tower, it needs a funnel when doing mass amount of die and hate seeing dice that register a hit knocked over from dice following. I feel for Richard for I'm a terrible dice thrower, have more chances in cards :P Fear those gamers who are lucky in dice and cards.

How exciting! There are plenty of great resources out there to 'how to get into x or y'. It a big but rewarding hobby! To answer your question, 1D6 or 3D6 or whatever are how many dice and what dice you roll. For instance 2D6 is 'roll two six-sided dice'. The first number is how many dice, 'D' is for dice, and the last number is how many sides that dice has. If you are used to family board games a six sided dice or 'D6' is very common but you may come across 4 sided (D4), 8 sided (D8), 9 sided (D9), 10 sided dice (D10) 12 sided (D12) and even 20 sided dice (D20). With the popularity of particularly board gaming, a dice with any amount of sides exists and probably have been made (have a google and a laugh)!

Ok i love Richard games and particularly Chain of Command but seriously? The Defense of the Dunkerque sector was only fought by the French Army. It’s one of the most heroic act that the French army have done during 1940 campaign. It’s not nice to say that the Sector was defended by BEF troops. You could use any battle fought by the BEF in France in 1940 but not Dunkerque. It’s unfair
@sirrathersplendid4825
@sirrathersplendid4825 2 жыл бұрын
Not true. Many British units stayed behind to guard the perimeter while the main army withdrew. But of course, it was the French who defended the bulk of the perimeter. It’s often forgotten that about 100,000 of the 330,000 evacuated at Dunkirk were French. And most of them returned to France very soon after France surrendered at the end of June 1940.
@paulbourguignon3632
@paulbourguignon3632 2 жыл бұрын
@@sirrathersplendid4825 i know that. My grand father was one of them. He was evacuated and came back to France three days later to fight until the armistice. I’m not blaming the BEF or despite them I was just pointing the fact that the perimeter was defended only by the French army. Regards.
@sirrathersplendid4825
@sirrathersplendid4825 2 жыл бұрын
@@paulbourguignon3632 - That’s not what I’ve read. Many British troops were left behind to defend the Dunkirk perimeter while the bulk of the BEF were evacuated. Can’t say exactly how many, but it certainly wasn’t zero. Those who weren’t killed were taken into captivity and spent the rest of the war in German POW camps.
@paulbourguignon3632
@paulbourguignon3632 2 жыл бұрын
@@sirrathersplendid4825 I’m sorry to insist but the Lille-Dunkerque was under the command of the General Molinier. With unit of the 1st French army only. The BEF retreat without telling the French and the defensive perimeter have been modified under emergency. One division sacrificed itself knowing and accepting the fact that none of their men would be evacuated, it was the 12ème Division Motorisée d’Infanterie. I write it again the defense perimeter was only made by the French and some Belgians. Why is it always so difficult for any British people on you tube to give ANY credit to the French ? The only advice that I would Like to give you is to listen Churchill speech’s After Dynamo operation.
@sirrathersplendid4825
@sirrathersplendid4825 2 жыл бұрын
@@paulbourguignon3632 - What you mean difficult for Brits to give the French credit? I just stated very clearly that the French did the BULK of the work. On the whole the French soldiers fought very bravely despite the incompetence of some of their senior officers. (There were incompetent generals on the British side too - you don’t have exclusive rights to them!) The problem may lie in what you and I mean by the “Dunkirk perimeter”. I’ll agree with you that in the final few days the small perimeter around Dunkirk may well have been manned exclusively by French troops. However, while the Brits and French were retreating from Belgium towards Dunkirk they formed an ever-shrinking perimeter, which did contain Brits. This whole operation, even while the BEF were still in Belgium, is regarded by Brits as part of the Dunkirk operation.
