Sharp Practice is a large skirmish game at the end of the Black Powder era, roughly on the end of the 18th Century from Too Fat Lardies.
Sharp Practice allows you to create smaller armies in which you can still participate in large scale period battles.
Perhaps you need to aid a carriage across the field, or defend against a vanguard force before the main army arrives. This game focuses you towards those smaller, narrative stories.
What do you like about this game?

I’m interested in the colonial period for this set of rules. Lots of options and great narrative options. Keep up the good work.

I'm going into this period with the first carlist war in spain, and I'm actually doing it in 15mm individual bases! Super cheap and very comfortable table size

Hey, what figures are you using? I love the Perry 28mm figs but unsure about commiting time and money to an obscure period...

@@KingdomEnfilade I have a rule for playing obscure periods. If I'm going to go into it I must build two armies for the period. That way I can play a game with someone who is new and not sure if they want to go into it themselves. For me I did War of Spanish Succession in *6mm*. Now that's a cheap scale. I also picked a ruleset that didn't call for a lot of models. For Sharp Practice I used 1/72 scale plastics for the American Revolution. Another fun period.

@@danmorgan3685 I love the AWI period above Napoleonics. I'm British but although I love Napoleonics, the AWI captures myself a lot more. Not many people seem to game in AWI though bit for rules like Sharp Practice, a big Skirmish battle is as realistic as it gets for this War (barring Long Island and Brandywine) most battles in the AWI were effectively large Skirmishes. Okay I say Skirmishes which had maybe 5,000 perside but it captures the period well. Currently doing my project for 28mm, x12 Regiments of British Line, x2 American Loyalists and x4 Hessian. Then x10 Continental/State Line, x4 Militia and x6 French. May seem over kill however this is my first ever project and ultimately my favourite period so I want to invest my time into it. I want the 4th Foot to be the 4th Foot and the 35th to be the 35th. I know some may use the same facings for the similar regiments but even in the AWI all the Regiments were individual and ran individually from one another in a sense. Like the 40th Foot lights being renowed for having Roundabout jackets which started the craze for the Southern period etc. The only thing is my main line Regiments have 12 men, x6 per group as opposed to x8. Simply for cost purposes and space in storage and on the actual table. Esch Regiment has x4 Lights and x4 Grenadiers on the British side which make up further battalions of x12 men. Skirmishers with x6 men per group of a x12 men battalion etc.

I was thinking about using this for battles in the middle east with Ottoman soldiers fending off Cossack raiding parties, and even battles between French and Austrian 18th century Sniper detachments. I like the lesser known parts of our history, and would definitely like to use these rules to play some of these types of scenarios out.

Sharp Practice is gaining steam here in North America. I am thinking this might be a great set of rules for me for French and Indian War.

We used SP2 for the first time last weekend for an FIW battle and the rules were fantastic. We've used Muskets and Tomahawks up until then but I think SP2 has become my new favourite.

I've used Sharp Practice v2 for French and Indian War, War of 1812 and American Civil War and the rules are fun and intuitive. It'll take three to four games and you'll rarely need to consult the book. Highly recommended.

15mm is a great scale for this game for a nice small table but keeping detail. Indian Mutany and Afgan Wars for interesting settings, but alomost any setting using these rules can be greeat fun

You don't need that. The ACW lists are in the main rule book. Terrible Sharp Sword was a v1 supplement and remains on sale for people with the first edition rules.

If you ever do interviews , tell the guest your questions before hand ( you can still elaborate on those questions ) . In this case some terrain and figures would have been good to show and tell at the table . Rich's hands are flipping around , all bored
