I hate to be that guy but, Coco is his sister in the other games and Crash Team Racing. The female bandicoot in this is Tawna. (Yes, Crash Bandicoot has a wiki too.) Also, Spyro didn't have a stupid face! I preferred Spyro to crash! Please do Spyro on Late to the Party!

If I remember clearly, there's 2 female bandicoots. There's Coco, who is Crash's highly intelligent younger sister. And then there's Tawna, who is the 'sexy' female character in the first game. Fun fact, Coco was created as a response to the negative internal reaction to Tawna. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan was not comfortable with Tawna's initial design on 'basic sexist principles'!

I know it's rude to laugh at someone elses misery but that was hilarious! Aoife it is one of those games where you need to be in the zone and not having to worry about commentary etc. At least this remake had retry levels, in the original it was start at your last save point ... and the save points were at the end of the Tawna bonus levels ... which you could only try once! So in many ways it's a lot easy (If that makes you feel any better :D)

Johnny, I grew up playing video games on a Commodore 64 so imagine waiting for a game to load which could then be completed in a shorter time than it took to load the damn thing! Ahhh, good times though...

In the original version of the game since Aoife didn't play any of the bonus levels had she gotten that game over she would have had to start back at the very first level. The first Crash was hard as hell.

The remake is definitely more forgiving in general. You couldn't instantly retry a bonus level if you failed it on the original, you had to redo the whole level. I'm fairly certain that getting a game over dumped you back to your last save too, and you could only save after completing a bonus level. I was only 8 at the time though so might be not quite remembering it 100%

They should do tag team racing. That game blew my little kid mind. It doesn't have annoying lives like this one or twinsanity, it has racing, shooting, mini games, and an awesome massive platformy world to explore. But it can be completed in a few hours if you choose to play just collecting crystals as fast as possible and progressing, or if you're playing for your own enjoyment there's loads of shit to explore and you can take ages doing every race.

Spyro made much better use of 3D environments for platforming than Crash, which was extremely rigid in comparison and had a lot of regular 2D scrolling levels as well as the 3D levels that play more like some kind of endless runner than 3D platformers that came later. However, Crash was visually exceptionally good looking for that period of gaming, especially the second and third game.

I think spyro platformer is definitely more forgiven than crash if you jump ahead on spyro and you let go of directional arrow, you'll glide a little just like how momentum works, while crash will stop you dead without any kind of logical momentum

Gaaaah! The bobcat game that Aoife was talking about was Bubsy 3D, which I definitely spent more time than I should have playing on PS1, and Bubsy also definitely had a stupider face than Spyro.

Aoife is right about the bobcat; that was Bubsy but he came from the 2D era and transitioned into an equally quite poor 3D version. I wonder whether they tried to make up for the short levels in these by intentionally placing the camera in the worst possible place. I suppose that was characteristic of the era as a whole though.. No idea how we managed.
