So, what can I say about today's episode in relation to the novel? 0:23 Wang Can is first introduced as one of Liu Zong's counselors who advise surrendering to Cao Cao. I'll quote the text about him: "Wang Can was widely informed and had a prodigious memory. He once recited the entire text of a roadside inscription after a single viewing. Another time he reconstructed perfectly a complex chess game after it had been played. He was also skilled in arithmetic, and he surpassed his contemporaries in rhetoric and poetry." Despite an extended introduction, he doesn't really do much after this scene. Not really the sort to wait in a field to jump an enemy army. He ends up working for Cao Cao after the surrender. 10:44 Zhang Song is too early and in the wrong place. He works for Liu Zhang in the western Riverlands, and is first mentioned a while after this point. So I'll just give his physical description: "He had an angular brow and a tapered skull; his nose was flat, his teeth protruding; he was under five feet tall; and his voice was plangent as a bronze bell." 11:00 Lu Meng is a commander under Sun Quan. I don't know where they're getting "naval tactician" but he does a lot of work for Wu. 11:04 This part is accurate. When Cai Mao surrenders to to Cao Cao, he's questioned about Jingzhou's resources; when asked about naval commanders, he names himself and Zhang Yun. Cao Cao then puts the two of them in charge of his invasion fleet. I mentioned under Episode 18 he had diverted a lake for naval training, but the fact he was using nortern soldiers who were unused to fighting on boats was still generally considered a disadvantage. Surely with a pair of proper admirals, his fleet would now be unstoppable. 11:12 Zhou Yu is, frankly, being modest here. By this point in the story he is "supreme commander of the Southland's land and sea forces." 11:28 Sun Quan holds a conference to discuss whether they should resist Cao Cao or surrender. He ends the discussion by drawing his sword, slicing off a corner of his table, and announcing anyone who further advocated submission would be treated the same. A bit more decisive and less anxious than he's depicted here. 11:48 I look forward to elaborating about the wind and the "Arrow Storm" when they're more pertinent.

"Naval tactician" is a little bit of a stretch, I'll agree, but Lu Meng was actually appointed commander of Sun Quan's naval forces during the battle of Jiangxia against Liu Biao. That was the first major battle that Lu Meng played a significant role in determining the outcome of and really stablished his early reputation. Also, Wu officers in general are known for being highly seaworthy due to their proximity to the Yangtze river, so that is likely playing a part. I'll assume the "tactician" part is based on his being convinced by Sun Quan to take up reading historical and strategic treatises in his free time instead of concentrating solely on military affairs and troop management. (For the sake of any non RotK lore sages also reading this:) It took some time but this would pay off in the long run as he became known as one of Sun Quan's best tacticians after Lu Su and most especially Zhou Yu, and would be an important mentor to the future prodigy and military savant of Wu, Lu Xun.

You're in Chapter 3 and I just realized, can you recruit random generals like you could in the first game? Like, how you could bribe them and then dismiss them if you didn't want them? I haven't seen you do that once yet. If you can't, it seems like a downgrade between games to lose that feature since it added some purpose to random general battles when traversing the overworld. Also made the game a bit more interesting as you could choose to change the party up as you progressed between chapters.

I wonder too, I never played this one but I remember playing the first one when I was like 17 after putting it on my brand new psp lol. I had other roms on it too but DOE 1 really kept my attention. For that reason alone- it was really ahead of its time to be able to recruit like that
