Isn't it *kind of rude* that *the two Ma's* didn't _stay_ in their house, and offer their services from there? *Even ruder* is that *Ma Su* doesn't get a _special_ portrait (not even in *that fan-made enhanced remake* I mentioned once before), while *Ma Liang* certainly does! Oh, well... It could have been worse... **cough** *Lu Su* **cough** Anyway, those two are *overhauled* compared to the previous game, with overall better stats, especially with their amounts of soldiers (them increasing upon leveling up, and the two's soldier counts are *very high* generally). The fellows at *Capcom* _really_ wanted you to use these guys, huh? Now, returning to *Xinye Castle* by taking the same, long trek, along the way I used a *Zheng Letter* around the other castles' thrones (and reseting when I needed to), with most of them offering this *Yang Huai* officer... Hmm... Recruiting him should allow me to skip the whole fight starring him (like with the *Changsha Castle Battle* earlier) later on, doesn't it?

So, what can I say about today's episode in relation to the novel? 5:07 Chen Deng's long gone from the story, as I said under Episode 18. 7:09 Actually Ma Su kind of sucks. One of the last things Liu Bei does as he's dying of illness is ask Zhuge Liang what he thinks of Ma Su. "Among the most splendid of the age," was the reply. "You are wrong," Liu Bei said. "In my view he's a braggart. Give him no important assignment." For possibly the only time ever, it turns out Liu Bei was right and Zhuge Liang was wrong. Ma Su later blows an important defensive assignment Zhuge Liang assigned him to, allowing the Wei forces under Sima Yi to advance further than Zhuge Liang had planned for. In fact Zhuge Liang himself is nearly captured by Sima Yi's army -- when he receives news of Sima Yi's imminent arrival with an army of 150,000 men, he's in Xicheng with twenty-five hundred troops and no other commanders. His only resort is a desperate bluff: throw all the city gates wide open and sit by a turret playing his zither. Sima Yi falls for it, concluding it's an obvious ambush, because he knows Zhuge Liang as a man who never, _ever_ bluffs. Afterwards Zhuge Liang realizes Liu Bei was right and executes Ma Su. Ma Liang does okay. He eventually dies completely unannounced, except an offhand mention Ma Su is wearing mourning white. Apparently the historical Ma Liang died at the Battle of Xiaoting, but I can't find any reference to this in the novel. Odd. 7:21 Sima Hui is last mentioned before Zhuge Liang is recruited, so this must be a Capcom original.
