Love this game so much. Was pretty put off at first, but gave it another chance and ended up loving it to death. Some of the characters who are pretty hard to like early on also turned out to have way more depth to them than I imagined. Also loved the emphasis on role-playing, down to leveling up aspects of your personality and social skills (and thus voices in your head xD).
@InsightChecked2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I was so confused at first, but I became really invested in it. I play tabletop RPGs a lot, so I was delighted at how much of that type of gameplay meshed with a videogame. What build did you pick for your character?

@@InsightChecked Sorry about the late reply, I've got reply notifications turned off :P made a custom build, don't quite remember the stats, but think I started with about average and tweaked it from there.

not sure if you eventually figured it out but you can select those little dots that appear next to your head the same way you select other interactable things (with the right stick). The UI was originally created for mouse and keyboard so the controller layout feels a bit **weird** imo
@InsightChecked2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I did figure it out eventually. Maybe in the next session? kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWSWkICfr6ecmpI A few snags so far especially with navigating on pathways/hallways with the controller, but overall I think I'm getting the hang out it a little more.

Just stumbled upon your channel on a Disco Elysium binge and so far, half way through this first episodes, I'm really liking your approach to the game. I also couldn't help but notice that you also have some BSG boardgame videos on here, one of my all-time favorites, so that's exciting! Seems like you have stopped uploading/streaming in the recent months, so hope everything is well, and thanks in advance for the hours of entertainment that I'll have in front of me!

So glad you're enjoying the playthrough so far! Yes, I play BSG for Extra Life charity every year and it always gets very competitive, in the best way. Maybe we'll try the re-skinned Unfathomable at some point. Yes-- took a bit of a hiatus on content but I'm gearing up for a re-brand/re-launch in the months to come. Glad you found the channel and hope you continue to find series that you like.

Today is the day Harry woke up! March 12th! To honor the greatest game and story in existence I have decided to check old letsplays of DE. Damn, you look so hopeful here. I wish I could be like you in this video and know nothing about this amazing world and characters, so I could play the story again. In short - I wish I had amnesia like Harry so I could consume this masterpiece again from scratch.

Some people say the c in crpg stands for computer. I always thought its for ceyboard & mouse but you are convincing me that it stands for controller. Hope playing this on controller isnt as painful as it looks :D. Cool lets play and great game!

This game should be played many times. With different political views and skills. For example, it's so cool that you get many more interesting facts about the world around you and can remember some of the history when your Intellect is higher :) I've never chosen it that low and it was a lot of fun waching you play with Harry being completly unaware where he was and having trouble with deducing things from footprints and broken glass :)

Yes! I feel like his confusion really impacted my understanding of the world at first-- and then I realized he was asking for basic definitions of things... what a beautiful himbo playthrough! I finished the game this week, but I definitely left a lot of plot threads open accidentally. I can see how this game could have a lot of replay value.

Are you planning on doing any more story-based let's play's? Youre pretty witty and intelligent (and no not just because you wear glasses. Well maybe 10%) so your commentary is great and very insightful.

Thanks for the link! I've subscribed recently. Watching your Stray playthrough! As for recommendations, maybe The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, another choice-making game, simply because it's interesting to see choice making playthroughs (it's why I got interested in this). It's more text-based than Disco Elysium, consisting of illustrations. We Happy Few is similar narratively to Disco Elysium, it's set in the mid-1960s, where you control 3 characters ina crumbling dystopian society close to societal collapse due to the overuse of a drug that keeps people blissfully unaware and manipulated. The in-game decisions have a lot of moral gray areas and weight later in the game. Detention is a really stunning 2d scroller game about school students in Taiwan during the White Terror period. It's a horror game, and perhaps a bit depressing, but great. Warning, it's a horror game! On a happier note, some more lighthearted, story-focused games: The Walking Dead (a classic and a staple for mainstream choice-making games) Tales From The Borderlands (hilarious choice-making game, same company as TWD) Detroit: Become Human - Not as subtle as any of the previous I've mentioned, but really entertaining! __________________________ I don't know if you're interested in longer AAA titles, but Red Dead Redemption 2's critically acclaimed story is pretty awesome, and has really valid foundations for being so celebrated. It's a long ride but delves into interesting themes, deeper the more you play. It can be witty and also hit completely different tones. Sometimes in the same scene. It's often overlooked as generic for it's big budget, but I can't recommend it enough. Outstanding videogame, with great characters and an unique narrative experience. If not for the channel then I recommend it just on an overall personal note. Honorable popular mentions which would be engaging to watch, and just games you should experience if you haven't: The Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, God of War (Ragnarok's third act was outstanding) The Stanley Parable (indie), The Last Of Us, Undertale (indie), Fallout NV, Fallout 3, Kentucky Route Zero (indie).

Why did you chose an interesting template then not RP it in the slightest? There's even a point where you say "I'm just going to chose answers that make people happy",. This game is amazing because it removes the vacuous emphasis on stats and pointlessly creating an image. The people that made this game actually understand that character by true definition is the most important factor in role-playing. There's millions of people globally that have no idea what role-playing is because video games fail miserably at reproducing human interaction and consequence. To come from tabletop originally (as I did) and not engage with such a rare opportunity, is baffling to say the least.

This is the first session in a full playthrough-- I think I find a good groove with the character choices as we progress. Ask the necktie.
@ZombieATAT Жыл бұрын
@@InsightChecked Fair enough. I made it half way through and then stopped watching. Looking at the comments at that point didn't help, they just mimic the usual: praise everything irregardless. Surely you must also find video game RPG's frustrating due to the lack of actual role-playing? I completed Baldur's Gate 3 recently, then started clicking on youtube uploads to see how the game was being received. One of them was titled "The 10 types of Baldur's Gate 3 players" and role-players weren't even on the list. On the flip side of that, people are saying it's a monumental role-playing game!! The genre is technically difficult to reproduce. That has created players that have no clear idea what role-playing is. I really want that to change.
