Let's Play Legend Of Grimrock - Party Creation - A Well Balanced Party!

Legend Of Grimrock has been a game that I have gone back and forth in my head with. It looked really fun and well done but I waited so long to take the plunge. I was fearful of being terrible and it's still a small fear, but alas I am going for it. Legend Of Grimrock 2 is on the way and I think it's high time I man up and take of the first Grimrock! So, what is Legend Of Grimrock? Well, it's a unique blend of a few different genres. It has the old school first person, grid base movement where you form a party and set out getting lost in caves, caverns and corridors while you map your own adventure on paper. However, it's a bit more modern. Legend Of Grimrock replaced the old turn based combat system with a bit more challenging real time combat. Doing this 1 thing has opened up a whole new level of tactics as you can fight enemies at a distance, kite them around and still run the risk of getting surrounded. All fights are on the map at once, no teleport to a battle map! The traps and attention to detail in dungeons are superb! This game deserves a ton of props! I'm glad to finally get my hands on it and share it with you all!

Ironically Minotaurs make great ranged rogues because, like you said, ranged attacks always hit which pretty much negates their dex penalty while taking full advantage of increased strength. On the other hand the same dex penalty somewhat compromises their melee ability since it affects both evasion and accuracy. For the same reason Lizard's dex bonus makes them more suited to being front line rogues (or back line with assassination) or even fighters rather than ranged attackers. It's hard to get used to. :P

The only other thing that dex MIGHT be good for (and I'm still speculating) is cooldown between attacks? It is an odd stat and usually does something different in most games. Ahh well, I don't THINK things will go terribly, but we'll see. :)

Grimrock doesn't hinge on cookie cutter builds, game can probably be finished with just one or two characters, you'll be fine. However do keep your builds focused, there aren't enough skill points to throw around.

Ice magic is the best kind of magic. No... Wait, scratch that. Necromancy is best kind of magic.

BumpyMcSquigums I, honestly, don't know a game that had implemented Blood magic in a decent way. Well, Dragon Age had it, but it was pretty rubbish, i mean sacrificing your health to make your basic spells slightly more powerful is kind of meh.

what about necromancy that infuses the undead you make with frost energy ;)

all magics are decent but air/electricity, fire is good for aoe. ice is good for debuffs. earth is great for posin damage over time. fire basic spell is the quickest. since its only 1 rune but ice first level spell is an awesome hit everything in a line. earth makes posin clouds that last for a long time. air meh also its a good idea to pick 1 element and stick with it maybe debbling for the first spell incase you ever fight something immune to your element. also you dont need a scrolll to learn new magic you can experiment. most spells are only 1 or 2 runes till you get to 3 level spells

My request in that regard would be to not spoil anything I haven't experienced yet. I WILL make mistakes and do dumb stuff, because it IS a blind LP. If I have questions or am unclear of how something works, you can enlighten me. What direction I should take in skills I'd rather fumble through it on my own. :)
