Who is Splattercat?
I'm a Let's Player gamer from Northern California who enjoys video games of all varieties. While I do game on the Xbox360 and Wii occasionally, most of the content that is featured on this channel will be new PC game releases and Indie PC Games.I publish videos daily so be sure to check in and see what's been going with me here at the Nerd Castle. My upload schedule typically includes one main series which is uploaded daily, followed by two minor series' which are alternated days. This means you get two videos a day with alternating content on alternating days. I enjoy Strategy games, RPGs of all varieties, and Sandbox games, so many times my content will reflect this in my game selections. If you're into humor, banter, or slightly off topic discussion while I play you'll probably find something to like here. What is Legend of Grimrock?
Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exiling them to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to their captors, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations long perished now. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level.
The game brings back the oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Legend of Grimrock puts an emphasis on puzzles and exploration and the wits and perception of the player are more important tools than even the sharpest of swords could be. And if you are a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and you crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the Oldschool Mode which disables the luxury of the automap! Are you ready to venture forth and unravel the mysteries of Mount Grimrock?

Some tips for ya Cat, once you utilize your dps rotation you can retreat to prevent damage while you wait for everyone to be able to attack again. Also, pressure plates work via opening or closing stuff, you can trigger them with heavy objects or your own weight. You can throw objects onto plates to trigger them as well.

Also if you know the combo for a spell and your mage has sufficient training you can simply use the spell by putting in the combo

Don't think you missed anything major on that floor, i will note that you can jump down pits, some will just have a teleport to get you out, some have loot. I'd also like to say that you can use any spells you can remember the code for from previous runs, as long as you have the skills. Remembering the light spell really cuts down on weight from torches :D

remember that somethimes you get secrets and good loot by going down into those pits were you can fall into there always is a way back up but also extra enemy's to beat up. just save before jumping.

The name of the game you're looking for that this game is a copy of is "Dungeon Master", well not copy, but tribute to. It was released for the Amiga, Atari ST. PC (Ms-Dos) and eventually Mac, Sega CD and Sega Saturn. I spent many an hour playing it as a kid.

There was another one similar to this made for DOS called Dungeon Hack. It's almost the exact same setup except in Dungeon Hack you only controlled 1 character. It can still be found floating around the internet but you need to run DosBox to play it.

Twitchy McNutz Well seeing as Dungeon Master was released prior to Dungeon Hack, pretty sure Dungeon Hack is also a tribute to Dungeon Master. (Dungeon Master came out in 1987, Dungeon Hack came out in 1993)

Splattercat... once you learn the spell combo from the scroll it's the same for every game. You can learn spells on your mage just by using them if you have the proper skill levels.

I have played this before and you simply want a insectoid mage and minitar warriors rogues can fit with a few races but the other classes have a good race you want to stick with

It is the Final Boss of the game that rearranges all the items (not the rooms, just the items). Also, your warrior must channel the mohawk! Channel the mighty mohawk!

Splattercat if you take one torch all you have to do when it gets low is to trade it out for another torch on the wall... then just put the old torch back on the wall because it will burn like new torch when it is on the wall. That's how I did my runs through the game and I never (almost never) had a torch go out on me.

Always remember to fall down every pit trap at least once. So many of the secrets are at the bottom of pits.

I loved the EotB series so much. They're probably still my favourite games ever so I was pretty keen for Grimrock, but I only ended playing about 8-10 levels of it. My problem with it, kind of ironically, is the story. It just seemed like I was plodding forward killing stuff and doing puzzles just for the sake of it. Games like Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, even (to a lesser extent) Dungeon Hack had a reasonably compelling narrative to guide the gameplay. Sure they were pretty light-on compared to dialogue-heavy games like Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights but every level had it's own unique mystery and purpose. Grimrock doesn't have those awesome moments like bargaining with the Drow or helping the dwarves in EotB 1 or realising Darkmoon castle is much more than just a foyer with two friendly priests. I've been thinking about giving Grimrock another go recently, hopefully watching this play through will get me keen for it again, otherwise I'll wait for Grimrock 2. Also FYI in Australia it's generally "yanking your chain". Pulling is for legs :)

Hey there Splattercat. Back row members can fight early on. You can drag and drop party members to change formation mid combat while the frontliners' attack times are resetting. And a mage can always throw rocks.

It still breaks my balls that there is no Legend of Grimrock 3 being developed. Oh well, LoG 1 and 2 both have a ton of user-generated content, that'll have to do. Also, imo it's a crying shame they removed unarmed skill tree from LoG2

one of the game breaking things about games like these (for me) is the whack a mole combat system. u stare at icons and cooldowns and not look at the character you are fighting. is there anyway to hot key the attacks, or do you have to use mouse cursor? This is a real time game right? If it's turn based I wouldn't mind so much. In real time, it's just too rushed like playing whack a mole.
