I like to imagine Quill shows up at the fort, stumbles into the store muttering incoherently about biscuits while bleeding out of a gaping wound that he just keeps pouring iodine on and screaming.

Man, out of all the Oregon Trail versions, Oregon Trail II will always have a special place in my heart as I grew up playing that. 3rd Edition though is up there as a close second.

I don't know why the game doesn't automatically assume that you would do the other thing if you are treating it with antiseptic. Because, cleaning the wound then, adding antiseptic, then dressing the wound would be the correct answer. I have had this happen to me in a recent playthrough as well.

I love this so much. I'm from Oregon and I Oregon trail 1 was part of my education (history). I also played alot of this on my own time in middle school.

I've always played Oregon Trail 2, not 5th edition. The 5th edition is too easy to cheese a high score. General tips: *Riverworks, Medical, Cooking, Commerce/trade, farming/animals, musical are the only worthwhile skills to pick. Blacksmithing and carpentry are useless if you bring spare wagon parts. Sharpshooting is useless because its easy to kill animals. *The rifle is the only weapon worth getting. Shotguns and pistols can't kill large animals as well, and small animals don't give much meat. *Keep your rations to filling. You can travel 10 hours a day if you have 8+ oxen, but drop it down to 8 if your party members aren't in good health or if animals are getting exhausted. *For Rivers, 2.5 feet or less you ford, 3+ feet you caulk and float. *For hills, if its not steep then continue as usual. Any steeper you have to double team/Anchor Wagon. If its so steep that you can't continue as usual, then use ropes and chains. The game punishes you for being overly cautious. Don't try if its muddy or icy, rest.

Big memories of Oregon Trail 2, for sure. My childhood! I will say that Oregon Trail 5 is just Oregon Trail 2 + cutscenes. Worth playing if you don't want to go all the way back to 2.

And way easier. You can gather veggies unlimited times at any stop as early as March. And fish wherever there's a freshwater source, which is easier than hunting.

Yes 5 is a more complete game but 2 has the best music and difficulty ratio

I go back to 5th Edition once every few years. OT2 is nice and short and was one of the first games that was more fun to ironman and def. helped me stop being a save scummer.

If you're looking for other games like Oregon Trail, you should try out Yukon Trail. You play as a prospector traveling from Seattle to Yukon for the gold rush.

Do you not know what cleaning and dressing a wound means? Dressing = bandage which would stop the bleeding which is what is killing quill off from loss of blood.

It is a bit weird that you can only do one thing, either use antiseptic or bandages. Well, at least he didn't turn into a zombie

@@shanadirI thought about it the other day when I had this encounter. I figured cleaning involved antiseptic and went with it. Made a full recovery.

Is this a remake of the game released in the 80's...Not sure if it was on the ZX81 or the 48k Spectrum maybe...I remember playing a much more basic text based game of this.

Interestingly, Quill died exactly at the site of the present day Oregon Trail Museum in Baker City, Oregon, just west of the Snake River from Boise. I grew up in Boise, and a few years ago I was back there visiting my parents for Thanksgiving. A friend of theirs is a retired elementary school teacher and was telling us about how she used to take her 4th grade class to the Oregon Trail Museum every year. I spoke up and said "well, you used to, but the kids kept dying of dysentery." I then waited for the laughter, and there was none, because everyone else in the room was a Boomer who never played Oregon Trail.

Just gotta say, your pronunciation of Oregon is perf and makes ya sound like you cud be from there Its so common to hear it pronounced wrong online, so its always nice when i hear the rare folk who know how to say it and dont say ore-ee-gone or worse

Your wagon tipped over and you lost a pair of socks? How does that even happen? Pick them up off the ground, wash if need be, continue on. They were to prissy that the socks fell on the ground and nobody wanted to pick em back up.

...Why would you NOT clean the wound and bandage it, Quill? C'mon now... you avoided that one on purpose. I can't believe that you would legitimately not know to do that.
