Hey y’all!! Sorry for the delay on the videos, life stuff came up and really did a number on me. I hope you enjoy this episode! More details for those who want them (warning on it being slightly heavy so if you wanna just chill and vibe, which is fair, don’t click see more!): There was a death in the family, and when I traveled to the funeral, I caught the flu. So it was a bit of a double whammy that took me out of commission. My family is okay, given the circumstances, and I am still sick but sloooooowly recovering. Thank you for your patience and understanding!! Now let’s get back to the end of the universe because I feel awkward around heavy topics 😅

Becca at this point has still barely seen any of the censored slide reels in the waking world, so she didn't register that she would be looking at an uncensored version in the archive. I'm so glad the devs have it programmed to say 'there's more to explore here' if you don't watch through the whole reel

This really is the most unique EotE playthrough. Going to the bridge entry instead of the door right in the docking bay; solving Starlit Cove like that; immediately understanding the message contained within and trying it out (so many people have trouble with that one). And IIRC you _still_ haven't seen the most of the overworld slides yet!

The reason the music is playing so loudly at 1:07:58 when you enter the archive is because this time there's no supernova music playing (faintly) in the background! That music plays over any other music, always. And that apparently goes in the dream world too!

As was said by others, this is such a unique sequence of learning of the DLC. It’s incredibly unlikely to learn the death-induced deafness in the simulation while still needing to progress through the stealth section. Seeing you breeze through that section without any hostile creatures patrolling was satisfying. I wonder if the devs should have considered putting the “death lets you avoid the alarm bells” slide reel in a different location so your solution is more likely to be discovered and used by other players to get around the stealth section. Your solution feels more in the spirit of Outer Wilds’ puzzles than sneaking around hostiles. Turning the stealth section into another puzzle you can easily bypass with enough knowledge and thoughtfulness would make it better. I remember the stealth section you finished here being incredibly frustrating (and terrifying) to get through during my play through. I liked the elegance of your solution very much. As always, thanks for sharing your play through with us. Can’t wait for the next episode :)

I was watching you play through Starlit Cove and it sparked a question for me. Sure enough, there's _another_ way to get through Starlit Cove that I've yet to see anyone use. When you extinguish the lights in the area a couple of Owlks ride elevators down from the top level into what I'll call the "gallery". A few moments later, those elevators then come back up to the top level. If you're quick, immediately after extinguishing the lights you can warp down to the stairs, turn around and warp to the walkway, and walk over to catch a ride on top of the elevator to the top floor. Once there, you can get in and ride the elevator right back down into center of the gallery, bypassing the trip down to the well.

I love how in the episode she first went up to an Owlk she wasn't bothered by it. But, fright after fright and that first experience meant nothing xD I did not expect all that to cause this chain of a reaction where instead of breaking some Owlk ankles because "fuuuuuck that" we instead got a stressful solution of hers. All in all I'm in awe at how this playthrough has been unique. However, I wonder how much less anxious and stressed she would have been if she didn't get lucky when she brute forced the entrance past the fire pit. There's like all 5 stages of grief being showcased in that last montage of getting the reels at the end.

this isnt spoilery or anything, but the water and damn arent actually for generating power. if you go to the dam and go under water to the outlets where the water is let through, youll notice theres no turbines. you just go right through, no problem. They have enough energy to power the ship for a very VERY long time. much like how the nomai used the sun for energy for their projects, so to did the strangers. in their own way of course, but the ship had been powered by solar energy all this time, and theres a room where it explains that even the super nova will give plenty more power to the ship too. So is the water just for the plant life? no. just before you get to the dam area, where the water is high, you go through large arch ways, and in the water in these arch ways you will notice large orange panels, and if you touch those panels youll get burned just like you would if you stood on a camp fire. The water is for heat dispersion, and the orange panels are heat sinks. The damn slows the water down, allows it to cool a little, and then shoots the water through the air, cooling it down even further. this water then cycles all the way around the ship, allow the heat to disperse even more, which then ultimately comes back to the heat sink to cool it down once again. Its pretty ingenious although in reality the whole ship, air and all, would slowly start getting hotter and hotter, so... its cool, but not entirely realistic.
@Spyblox007
@Spyblox007 5 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if they are actually a heat sink. I saw a discussion on reddit about those orange panels, and someone pointed out that if you stare at them while passing by on a raft, you'll notice that the water is not horizontal to them, but kind of slanted upwards towards the dam. If you think about the physics of it all, water in the resevior should be higher than at the other side of the dam, but because it makes a whole loop around the Stranger, why doesn't the water just flow backwards? One would think the path the river takes goes "downhill", but when it reaches the dam, it's somehow higher than where it started when it exits the dam. There has to be an "uphill" segment the water goes up. That's what the orange panels are. They propell the water up a short slope and keep the reservoir from flowing backwards, which is why the water angles upward right there.
@Chrisiskewl100
@Chrisiskewl100 5 ай бұрын
@Spyblox007 except 1. that wouldn't explain why they're hot, heat doesn't push in a singular direction. 2. Outer wilds is known for its realism. Yes it has technology or phenomenon in it that dont exactly fit reality, for the sake of the gameplay, but those are always at least somewhat explained with something that make sense. Like the nomai warp technology. That's not actually a real thing, but it makes sense because it's based off of the concept of an Einstein-Rosen bridge, a wormhole. 3. There is a MAGNETIC phenomenon that can push water in a singular direction but A. it doesn't really heat up all that much, B. it requires a long channel not just a short passage way, and C. it doesn't scale. We can really only make that happen on really small scales. To do that on such a large scale would require magnetics comparable to a neutron star. It's much more simple for them to be heat sinks. And the flow of the water is explained by the same reason the ship has "gravity". The ship rotates under the water. Its the ship thats flowing, not the water. And yes the water would eventually match the motion of the ship in reality, just like in reality the ship would continually heat up.
@Spyblox007
@Spyblox007 5 ай бұрын
@@Chrisiskewl100 You are likely correct that the rotation of the Stranger is what is causing the water to flow, but friction would eventually slow the water down. However, hot water does rise over cooler water. If you notice in the video, the water actually bubbles a bit near the panels. Maybe the panels heat the water to give it the upwards energy it needs to overcome the friction, and the dam maintains the constant flow necessary to keep the system in balance. For heat dissipation, real life spacecraft use radiators that release energy in the form of light. Given that the Stranger's outside is covered in light panels, what if some of those are actually radiators?

@annieabsorbsaqua5793 5 ай бұрын
@@Chrisiskewl100 I think "Sci-Fi tech that makes water go up" fits the "known for its realism" game a little better than "heat sinks inside the closed system they're meant to cool down". Especially since plenty of other unrealistic Sci-Fi tech exists. Like the gravity crystals. (Also "Complicated electrical device beyond our understanding of physics" is plenty of reason for the plates to heat up - but I do like to think there is also a point to the heat) (Also also I always assumed the water keeps flowing because they put more energy into the system to make up for friction. They do have solar panels after all)

"Escaping the end of the universe in the stupidest way possible." Ironically, some "futurists" like Ray Kurzweil think they will do exactly that -- Upload their consciousness into a computer so they can literally live forever in a virtual reality Utopia, while the physical universe disintegrates in the eons to come. Maybe the "Owlks" are the Outer Wilds writers' way of satirizing that kind of thinking.

I watched a podcast with the 2 co-creative leads a few weeks back and they were mentioning how most people access the forbidden archives by frustratingly 'stealthing' their way through the dark sections, myself included. Turns out this wasn't the way the devs intended it to be and they recently updated the game to make the stealth harder; to discourage players away from brute forcing their way into the archives because according to them "that wasn't the Outer Wilds way", and I agree. In fact, the real solution they wanted players to use was the one you did. Honestly good job because you're the first person I've seen that actually did it the 'correct' way haha

@@BeccaBytes haha I watched a video essay that came to kinda the opposite conclusion. The changes the developers made did make stealth harder, but it was because the strategy of "playing it safe by learning the patrol routes of enemies and slipping behind them without alerting them" was not the intended solution or theme they were going for. The video essay pointed out how you really only have enough time to watch one slide reel using the method you used (which he dubs "Operation Owlless"), so while it's a solution they definitely intended for people to think of for that area, it does kind of punish the player for not trying to attempt a riskier but quicker method. But not many people even thought to try what you did so nice job. The video essay here if you are interested, though it contains spoilers so maybe wait to watch it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIKuoZRqbq6Ub7ssi=ERjdNPKyVolcapvg Edit: Just realized the video saymou7773 was referencing by Andrew Cunningham is literally the one I just commented, thanks reading comprehension.

Your EotE playthrough is just the coolest. 😁 Even having watched so many playthroughs, watching your videos feels like a real adventure, because you are so creative and solve things so unconventionally! Like a real explorer should. 🫡
