Here's my BYTE-sized playthrough of Outer Wilds! Yes, I did steal that pun from a commenter on another video! Ty for that! This game was a huge emotional journey for me because I had been struggling with some of the exsistential themes of it for the past few years. And now I feel way more optimistic about the fact we all die at some point! Thanks Outer Wilds!
If you want to see an extended part of a section of the video, here's where each episode starts from the broader playlist:
00:00 - Episode 1: The Time Loop ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
15:25 - Episode 2: Feldspar and Dark Bramble ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
30:32 - Episode 3: It's a Supernova? ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
49:42 - Episode 4: The Anglerfish Fossil and the Hanging City ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
01:10:18 - Episode 5: The Tower of Quantum Knowledge ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
01:29:29 - Episode 6: The Orbital Probe Cannon and the Quantum Trials ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
01:45:13 - Episode 7: The Quantum Moon ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
02:08:35 - Episode 8: The Sun Station ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )
02:34:23 - Episode 9 The Ash Twin Project ( • Let's Play Outer Wilds... )

I love the impact the sun station has. That moment of realization that there's no machine prompting the end of your star that you can stop and the game gives you a few minutes in the station to process that fact. There are tons of great moments in this game but to me, that one is underappreciated. An answer you have been looking for since the beginning and the brutal silence that comes with understanding it.

This is one of the main parts I watch for when someone else plays the game. Everything leading up to that is discovering the history of the Nomai and their search for the Eye, leading to the Ash Twin Project. It’s so obvious that you just need to deactivate the sun station and save yourself and all of your friends, because that’s what we do in video games. Then you get there. And find out that the Nomai have seemingly been dead for >200,000 years. And the sun is simply dying. And there’s nothing you can do. It’s such a powerful, humbling moment, and it always brings me right to the edge of tears.
@gabiruman

@@hazamax2139 the funny thing is I didn't come to that realisation then. When I found out the sun station had failed, I thought the Interloper was the cause, then I watched it crash into the sun and I was sure I knew that was what was causing the sun to go supernova. Hell I didn't even realized the sun was dying on its own until a few days after I finished the game, I didn't read the tablets inside the Eye version of the observatory so I didn't get the summary of the story, and I was very confused for a while, then I started thinking about the game events and some stuff wasn't adding up so I started watching other people play and then it hit me. It's amazing how the order you discover events in this game can totally influence the way you perceive things.

I have a funny story about the end of the game. So, my first time playing, I didn't actually get the real ending, I just thought I beat the game. I never realized that I could go to the Eye etc, so what I did is that I just took the core and went to watch the Sun go supernova together with Chert. And then I stopped playing, thinking that I was just supposed to let the game be once I figured out what happened to the Nomai and the system. Only a year later when I watched someone else on KZbin play the game and realized that I could actually get to the Eye, I stopped the video immediately not to spoil it for myself and then went and did it in the game finally (since you can literally beat the game in one loop if you know what to do). In a way I had two different endings to the game, the first time kind of just accepting the inevitable, and then the second time having that beautiful catharsis of starting a whole new universe.
@Huntracony
@Huntracony 2 ай бұрын
I almost did the same thing. I read "Removing the core will stop the Ash Twin Project" and thought "No, wait, I don't want it to end! There's so much more to discover!" and left it, but I was fully convinced that would just be the end. When I later visited The Vessel I figured it out.

I had been going through your let's play videos slowly but due to my limited time and decimated attention span these days, I struggle to watch full playthroughs and these kinds of edits are great for that. Canonically, she was launching herself straight into the sun for many many years, every 22 minutes. That loop was happening long before the character gained consciousness. The first death ever is what was happening all the loops the player wasn’t conscious. So in her story the character just went “oooh twins” followed by “oh no, the sun has gravity” about a billion times

there was no time loop just the retrieving of the orbital probe cannon's data. the hatchling did not experience those loops, there just was one 22 minute long future that couldve been 9 million times but wasnt because of the ash twin project. however in all of those 9 million possible futures, becca launched herself into the sun lmao

@@meow-px6kk "there was no time loop just the retrieving of the hatching's data." You see how that works? Either the cycles both before and after the hatchling gained consciousness were time loops or none were. Unless we are fully privileging the hatchling's perspective as the final arbiter on whether time was looped or not, which, I don't know why we should.

i loved how enthusiastic you were in throwing yourself into the immersion of the game and empathizing with all of the characters and their stories. also love that you didn't edit out your strong emotional reactions, and even kept in some discussions about them (particularly mentioning your anxiety and needing to take breaks). gaming isn't typically a space that welcomes emotional openness and vulnerability, so it's really cool to see more people who are willing to wear their hearts on their sleeves unapologetically. outer wilds is definitely a story that will demand extreme emotional intensity if you choose not to force a layer of dissociation between yourself and the experience of playing it, but that intensity is what ultimately builds the foundation for the unparalleled catharsis delivered by that final orchestral sting as the new universe is born. i'm glad to see another person who opened themself up to that experience so completely.

This piece of art here has done more to help me and countless others except death and our own mortality more than anything I can think of. The fact that it effects so many people reminds me that we are never alone going into that deep unknowable void. Who knows if we'll be a conscious observer of what is next, but i do believe there is a next no matter what. The rules may change, but as long as some sort of consciousnesses emerges there will be experiences and that is really what life is about. Experiencing life and hopefully sharing that experience with others. Thank you for your playthrough, and adding on to our experience of this beautiful life.

Your playthrough was amazing, you pick up on things super quick and really let yourself be involved in the story and get emotionally attatched to the story and the characters. I feel like you have the perfect personality to be a Let's-Play-KZbinr! Since you seem to want to focus on "existential" type games I recommend SOMA but beware, it's not cozy at all, it's creepy and might be kinda stressful but if you're up for it the existential and philosophical questions that game raises are totally worth it. I'm a little late to the party but I thoroughly enjoyed watching you playthrough this incredible game, earned a sub for sure :). I always love watching peoples first impressions on it. Always makes me shed a few tears. Thanks for playing and sharing your experience with everyone. {SPOILER BELOW: ANYONE STILL WATCHING DON'T CLICK READ MORE IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE END) Also my favourite little thing at the end is that the probe you shot into the eye is still flying through the new universe. So a small part of your journey, and all your friends, is still there :)

Thank you so much for sharing this playthrough! So enjoyable, so unique, and I just love seeing other's experience of this game. I know this story is a part of my core being now, and it looks like it is for you too. I'm excited to see what other games you check out after Outer Wilds!

It's so wonderful seeing people having similar reactions playing this amazing game. It's a one of a kind experience for sure and you can do it only once. But it's the best experience in my entire video game life.

Wow, that was wonderful to watch! I loved your reactions to things maybe because they were similar to mine. Thanks for recording that and for cutting it together for us.

I have seen a lot of Outer Wilds playthroughs, and I have NEVER seen someone just jump onto the Black Hole Forge in motion like that. I myself tried it (and died/fell into the black hole) several times before figuring out the "intended" way to get in there. Impressive jetpack skills!

Due to being terrified of space, I’ve never been able to play this game myself, despite trying. So instead I’ve watched dozens of different playthroughs to see other people realising how truly wonderful this game is. Your playthrough is one of my favourites, you are so earnest and watching you play this lovely game is a true joy and has perfectly replicated the bittersweet ambivalence I felt when I watched a playthrough for the first time. Subscribed :)

YOU ARE SO SMART for instantly figuring out that you use the warp pads for the sun station!!!! I took way too long to realize that. Wayyy too long. As in I got the Hotshot achievement for manually flying there before I figured out the pad ._. Edit: Okay and you figured out the deaths were instantaneous quickly as well. Edit: "Cam I just ride that?" you looking at the storm on Giant's Deep and I'm like, oh no you can't gotta go from above and then down. Then you just actually ride it up and over like a badass lmao. Edit: Your genius is almost frightening. Edit: I just finished the supercut and man, I'm just crying my eyes out again. I cannot get through the end of the game myself or watching anyone play it without crying. Thank you for playing! I really enjoyed the playthrough and I adore your style and sincerity in the videos. I want to watch you play more games

thanks so much for sharing this experience with us - warmed my heart! i reckon you'd really enjoy "chicory: a colorful tale" if you ain't tried it yet - not quite as existential as outer wilds, but will definitely leave you pondering how you want to exist in this world and connect with it on the human scale. it's a story that has stayed with me in the same way that outer wilds has.

Oh my god. I myself got to the black hole forge via the warp, and I’ve seen dozens of playthroughs force a ship up there, but I have *NEVER* seen someone just platform up there on it as it rises like that, across dozens of playthroughs yours is the only o e I have ever seen do that. Bravo!

I liked your playthrough, your emotional reactions are genuine. Usually when someone goes that emotional it kind of feels exagerated for the audience to have more excitement, but you are just a really emotional being. You have a great personality to do playthoughs with games like this. Echoes of the Eye, don't miss it. Hugs*

I always held out hope that the Ash Twin Project was like a bunker, and in the final loop I'd go round in my ship collecting everyone, and we'd survive the blast. I've watched my friend play this game, watched playthroughs... it's always so painful when you realise there's no saving everyone.

This was so good! Love the game and your playtrough! If you like here are couple games that have a similar type of vibe and games that i would really like to see you play on this channel, no pressure tho only if you want to. Subnautica, underwater exploration with a mystery. Journey, A small art peace of a game, under 10h with visual storytelling. (Anyone here can comment more if they want). Love your focus and commitment for the story that an amazing game deserves. Keep posting im here for it!

Thank you for making this super cut! Btw, in case your wondering if there are any other experiences like Outerwilds. Tunic is a really fantastic and beautiful crafted game. All I'll say is that it's like Zelda 1 meets Dark Souls, well I guess Zelda 1 is already like Dark Souls with its difficulty, lol. Anyway, excited to see your playthrough of the DLC of Outerwilds!
