The wiki explains how each item works. Don’t listen to randoms online. The crucifix prevents hunts if the ghost is within 3 meters (5 meters for banshee) of the crucifix. It must be on the floor or held BEFORE the flashing starts.

When the Spirit Box says “Nothing Detected” it either means you’re not in the same room as the ghost, the lights in the room is on, it’s a shy ghost and there is more than one person in the room, or it’s simply not a spirit box ghost.

These posts are in no way meant as an insult since i doubt very much you're as into Phasmo as some people like me are. That being said i have scrutinized almost every detail of the phosmophobia mechanics, so without further ado... Phasmo Pro Critiques Eurogamer!

Hunt #1: 8:56 1. Crucifix not being down before a hunt isn't OFTEN the wrong way to do it. Its always the wrong way to do it. 11:08 2. Opening all the cupboards means you cant get a free clue as to the ghosts location when IT opens the cupboards. 12:26 3. Dirty water is an awful picture to take if its not an objective. The only thing worse is a dead body. If you must take it for an objective do so after taking 10 other photos. That way it wont affect your photo money. 12:27 4. Wrong room. Cold spot is in dining room. Zoe swings the thermometer too fast and doesn't take the increased temperature in the kithen as a sign thats its the wrong room. The thermometer only updates every 2 seconds. You have to point in one direction for at least that long to be sure. Despite there being no walls the Kitchen and Dining Room are 2 different rooms. The same applies in Tanglewood. 15:15 5. Holding the garage door closed will do nothing. The ghost will still walk through the door and kill you. Only hiding in lockers or closets (not walk in robes) and holding the door closed works. 16:54 6. Took a dead body photo... See point 3. And it didn't count, but dead body photos are notoriously bugged at the moment anyway, so we wont hold that against them. 18:06 7. Doesn't check windows or dining room light switch for fingerprints, although this is moot anyway. See point 9. 19:36 8. The spirit box only says "Nothing Detected" if your mic IS working. 20:00 9. They should be looking for Spirit Box, Freezing Temperatures or Ghost Writing. Fingerprints have been eliminated as a possible form of evidence by this point. 20:38 10. "How did you die?" Is not a valid Spirit Box question. 21:21 11. By the time the thermometer is referred to again, the cold would have spread due to the ghosts proximity. Its now too late to use the thermometer to find the ghost room. 21:24 12. Despite point 11 above, Zoe doesn't at least check the dining room, but instead only gets the false positive from the kitchen. At least if she'd seen both rooms were cold they might have had some doubts. 23:34 13. Jinns move fast when they are not near a live player and then slow down, but they do eventually work this out at 24:17.

Hunt #2 28:04 14. "Vasquez" is played by Jenette Goldstein. Not strictly a phasmophobia critique, but it's not Linda Hamilton. 31:37 15. Not only doesn't voodoo doll give any indication as to where the ghost is, it never did in the first place. Its quite surprising to see this myth still kicking around. 32:28 16. Successive pictures of the ghost don't count for anything. Always check to see if your picture counted rather than wasting photos. I counted 4 wasted pictures. 32:43 17. A manifestation does not indicate the ghost room. They never do establish the ghost room properly. 35:05 18. Antagonizing the ghost by using its name is a good thing. It will make it more active and more likely to give evidence. It will not affect its hunting behaviour. Only mean (average) team sanity matters when it comes to the ghost hunting. This is actually even more evident as the ghost activity reduces once Ian dies as no one is antagonizing the ghost anymore. 36:46 19. All ghosts play with the lights and play with the fusebox. It actually gives no indication of whether the ghost prefers the dark (Mare) or the light (Jinn, although only the fusebox matters to the Jinn). 37:14 20. They could ALWAYS hear you all the time. The difference is now they can tell WHERE you are by the sounds you make. 39:29 21. Door closed and no one checked it with an EMF meter. 39:32 22. No torch flashing, no reason to run, ghost is not hunting, it's just manifesting. 41:39 23. Taking more dead body photos. 41:59 24. I don't think they ever turn any lights back on after the hunt. Walking around in the dark for no reason is a great way to get hunted. 42:46 25. Taking pills at 80% sanity. This one is debatable as knowing you're at 100% has its advantages, but you are pretty safe at 80%. Pills give 40% so there was essentially a 20% inneficiency there. 43:54 26. Accidental photo, followed by on purpose photo of same thing. You could have checked the journal to see if the first one counted. It did and that was the last photo slot in the journal. 47:17 27. What the ghost writes in the book gives no indication as to what kind of ghost it is. 47:24 28. It didn't react to the doll. The voodoo doll is a free interaction photo, nothing more. 49:48 29. "How did you die?" is not a valid Spirit Box question. 49:55 This should go to the bug report forum, because that should not happen. 50:35 30. Mic isn't working in game correctly for Aoife or Zoe... Could be bug, could be the alt+tab thing that happens, not really their fault, but it's going to be hard without one. But not impossible. Spamming the push to talk key will still get the Spirit Box to respond even for those without a mic. Was added as an accessability option for those who can't speak due to a disability. 51:28 31. Some pretty good looking EMF level 5 spikes on the activity meter. Might have been others earlier, but since Zoe just said she's about to guess... That coupled with the ghost writing, the lack of fingerprints and ghost orbs would make me guess Oni. But in point 17 i pointed out they probably dont even have the right room. My guess is the ghost is in the corridor outside that room, or in the nearby laundry or bedroom or even lounge. 52:16 32. Another good EMF level 5 looking spike on the activity meter. 52:50 33. Smudging a Yurei sends it to its favourite room and stops it from wandering around. It doesn't prevent its activity. Any ghost actually increases activity after being smudged, including the Yurei. You also get 15 seconds in which the ghost wont attempt to start a hunt regardless of sanity levels 53:00 34. Walking around in the dark wihtout turning any lights on is whats responsible for the sanity drop. Yurei's increased sanity drop only counts during a manifestation when you're looking at the ghost. Looking at any manifested ghost drops sanity considerably, but Yureis are extra bad. They haven't had a manifestation since ian saw it at 49:55. 53:20 35. Yet another good EMF level 5 spike on the activity meter, which would disqualify the Yurei.

Hunt #3 55:21 36. They're not on the new patch in the first place... This is a professional level, but on the Beta branch, which is the only place where the patch is live you don't get told whether the ghost responds to everyone or if you have to be alone when on a professional level. Also the fusebox starts as off in professional on that patch. So this means the ghost can't use sound to locate players. And you don't need to hold the door closed, because that mechanic isn't present on the version they're in. 57:02 37. Okay so Zoe is distracted by Ian being Ian, but they're walking around in the dark again for no reason. 1:00:04 38. Opening closets and not closing them again. Missing an opportunity for the ghost to give you a clue. 1:00:44 39. Walks into a room no one else has been in and doesn't comment on the light being on already. But I guess she was concentrating the thermometer. 1:00:59 40. See point 18. 1:04:56 41. Ian still wasted 5 photos, his own camera or not, because only the first 10 photos taken during a match counts towards the photo score and therefore how much money is made from photos. The only way to get him not to waste photos is if you gave him his own camera AFTER getting 10 worthwhile photos. 1:05:32 42. Fingerprints are no longer a possibility at this point. It can now only be Freezing Temperatures (Phantom), Ghost Writing (Shade) or Spirit Box (Jinn) 1:06:13 43. The overlap between the 2 crucifix is too great. The second shouldn't even be in that room at all. 1:06:29 44. See point 18.

Hunt #4 1:09:04 45. They haven't been to Tanglewood yet on this stream. 1:11:46 46. No lights again. Just walking around in the dark for no reason is bad for your sanity. 1:12:19 47. Zoe gets an 11° celcius, but isn't looking at the screen. Not a big deal since she finds it shortly afterwards anyway and I miss it all the time myself, but this is a critique. 1:12:42 48. See point 18. 1:12:58 49. It's technically true that the ghost can hunt from the first second, but practically its not possible because sanity can't have dropped that fast, but once again they're all walking around in the dark so who knows. 1:13:03 50. No its in the laundry. Again zoe waves the thermometer around too fast and doesn't seem to know it measures the temperature in a beam in front of it. It doesn't measure the temperature at you feet unless you point it at your feet. If you point it at a doorway, a window or a wall it will measure the temperature on the other side of that thing. 1:13:37 51. Probably wasn't too bad a spot for the motion sensor anyway. Then you could use it to detect when the ghost was wandering out of its favourite room. But if the objective is your only concern then its probably the right move to put it IN the ghost room. 1:15:01 52. The ghosts favourite room is the room that is cold within the first few minutes of the front door being unlocked. Where the ghost manifests depends on where the ghost currently is and has nothing to do with the ghosts favourite room. The spirit orbs will be in or near the favourite room. 1:18:26 Not a critisism, but its gold... 1:19:28 53. The ghost isn't messing with the cameras, its just a wierd bug where the camera keeps moving to the next one on its own. The ghost can however turn off a camera if it cant find anything else to interact with, but its an extremely low chance. 1:20:48 54. Candles provide light and prevent sanity drop. They can be used to mark a route or to provide light that a ghost can't turn off. They will go out after a while on their own though so its not recommended to rely on them. 1:21:27 55. Wraiths are the most affected by salt. They get a big spike in activity if they touch salt. They still step in the salt piles and you can still take photos of the salt pile for a footstep photo. What a wraith doesn't do is leave green footprints when viewed under UV after stepping in salt. It is the only ghost that NEVER leaves green footprints, all other ghosts can, but wont always do so. 1:22:36 56. See point 18.

The only thing that'd annoy me is the picture taking, because cameras and the photos you can collect have a limit. So if you waste all your shots or take enough meaningless shots to fill the book , it'll prevent you from meeting some of the objectives.
