Such a great job by the actor that played Kratos. The voice is always low and gruff, but listen to it right when he says "Watch your tone, boy." It almost becomes like a growl like a warning a wild animal does right before it attacks. The actor does it one other time in the game (that I remember anyway) and it's when Baldur slaps him the first time they meet. The "Leave...My...Home!"

I find it interesting that we all hate the way Atreus acts here when, if you think about it, this isn’t too far off from how Kratos would act in the original trilogy. I mean let’s face it, his mentality was basically, “you get in my way, you die, and that goes doubly for Gods”. I think it adds a lot to the scene to view it as Kratos trying to stop his son from turning into him. This Kratos is far older and weathered, much more hesitant to kill Gods. Perhaps it’s even a subtle criticism from the devs acknowledging some of the faults of the previous games, but then again I might be reading too deeply into this.

Yeah, Atreus here reminds me so much of Kratos in GOW 3 and I think that intentional. If Atreus and the player had known about his mother by this point, would we see his senseless killing of Modi as retribution against Thor? Would we see Atreus as being right? But without that he's a petulant child that doesn't listen to his father and I think that makes how everyone sees him all the more ironic. We don't see the Kratos in Atreus until when its too late through his killing of Modi and later shooting Kratos, just like how Kratos didn't see it until he had no choice. Atreus, who was a sweet, shy boy at the start of the game could easily become his father, the man being the slaughter of an entire realm, if left unchecked like so many gods allow their children to be.

In the Original trilogy he would’ve killed him in 10 different ways simultaneously while ripping his head off with his left and stabbing him with the other. I think that sort of makes the player feel this way about Atreus when he kills him just because. Knowing what a crazy motherfucker Kratos was in the earlier games and playing the game with the context that he’s trying to change makes one be upset about Atreus similar mistakes. The game really gives off this parenting impression where you start morally question the still unshaped son character behaving similar to the player himself on the earlier games.

What I find interesting is that while everyone hates the way Atreus acts during this part of the game, I find it’s not all that different from how Kratos acted in the original trilogy. Sure Atreus is more bratty than badass here, but his logic is the same, “this thing has gotten in my way/angered me somehow so now I’ll kill it in brutal fashion with no remorse”. It’s interesting how this game frames this behavior from the heroes as cruel, unnecessary and downright evil, causing the players to hate it, whereas previous games would have likely glorified and made a spectacle of it.
