There are two versions of this. A sfw one, which is the one shown if you believe it, and a nsfw one. I stumbled upon this garbage on a very *official* site. Was searching for another manhwa that looked mildly interesting, turned out to be garbage so I went with the other one on a whim because of the title. I hate my morbid curiosity. The 6 chapters I read of the "mature" version were so much worse. It not only does the abuser was abused problematic excuse, but it also does the "well the victim liked it" bullshit. It was basically a glorified r*pe porn comic. It doesn't just glorify the abuse, it goes all the way and make it steamy and sexual. All the while pretending to be some deep story about a damaged and scarred soul, all that to excuse her repeated sexual and psychological abuse. It is disgusting.

Yup, I found the NSFW version myself after watching the original upload and... yeah, yo described what I felt about it perfectly. The comic is basically just a glorified "rape porn" on it's worst form- the girl treats the dude like her personal living dildo, the dude have no will of his own during the sex acts, and his being shown to "enjoy" the sex is enough of a justification to say "no it's not rape because he is consenting to it" (and no, he clearly doesn't consent). It just feels like 50 Shades of Gray in medieval fantasy dressing with reverse gender rules. There is no genuine romance between the two leads and no legitimate consent of both partners. The dude is only there because he seem to love the girl, and thus letting her order him around like a puppy. It's super uncomfortable and jus t wrong, and it makes me sick to my core that people act like the NSFW version "fixes things around" just because it shows more of the sex.

It's in a downright creepy way It's to the point where she won't even hang out with her friends because she's scared he'll be sad or whatever And the webtoon always brings up how "he needs someone other than FL", yet they brig it up in a "awh this little cute owo potato is so alone and has no one (⁠*⁠´⁠ω⁠｀⁠*⁠)" And even when they bring it up in that way, they never ever got around to actually making progress with that. They just bring it up sometimes then forget about it for a few chapters only to bring it up again and the cycle continues I stopped reading at about chapter 77, I think. So I'm not sure if anything progresses after that point But from the looks of it, probably not at all This used to be my favorite webtoon, evrything from the storyline to the drama to even the artstyle has downgraded severely since then

Thought this would lead to some great climax where FL finally realises this guy isn't stable and tries to get him help or something or atleast another friend since he solely depended on FL or even something else that could be some fun drama... Then that just didn't happen, and I don't even know what tf happened with that dropped it at around 77 as well. Seems like the author became less self-aware of how creepy he is as time went on.

For context on that low rating: This is one of those Manhwa that was released on other websites LONG before it was ever on webtoon. The people who read it on those sites already knew about its content and where it would lead, and of those readers who already had webtoon accounts, those are the ones responsible for the rating. They even went to the comments of the first chapter to warn webtoon readers to not read it. Cudos to them for warning everyone else btw.

Webtoon's system is garbage. When they do have good comics, they're either underrated , or oversaturated. If they're actually popular and had the artists sign contracts, they end up being purposefully stretched out by said artists to keep the company happy, and to keep the revenue going because they're underpaid for the services to the point they're more invested in destroying their pieces to reap for the cash they struggle to obtain. Lezhin Comics is severely worse. They underpay their artists while reaping most of the profits from them through 'advertising funds.' What makes it even worse is that you can't even find the comics anywhere else because they signed contracts to own the properties for them and having even a slight piece of the comics outside is easy for lawsuits or immediate removal. The worst of it? These comics are extremely expensive to buy as a consumer. And most of that money barely goes to the artist. Webtoon is trying to go the route that Lezhin goes, and that's a very bad thing, for both the artists and the consumers.

I believe the translator made a fan fic that was better than the garbage comic. The BL side story was the worst spin off that came from the creator. At the end the guy she abuses tries to commit Minecraft after being terribly abused by the creepy disgusting guy Duna knew and well he is at the hospital sleeping he dreams about Duna and apologizes for criticizing her genius writing and saying he only criticized her because he was so jealous of her writing. The creator tried to justify the fact that the guy got abused was because he plagiarized his friend’s {not Duna but still I don’t like how the mangwa tries to justify what they do to him} writing at the end and hurt her feelings. When i first came across this comic, i was kind of interested. The art looed pretyy, and the story had a simple twist to the roles. I was getting burnt out on all the dark haired and broody mls, and the isekai mistreated princess fls. I thought itd be interesting. Nope. Couldnt make it past chapter 5. It was basically the same as most fantasy romance webtoons out there. Over powered, beautiful, higher status, dangerous, falling in love and forcing the pure hearted, soft, main character into an unwanted marriage. Just the genders switched from the usual. Disapointing. A wonderful refresher would be My Mother got Married by Contract! Its about the daughter of the wife of a fallen noble who was abandoned and forced to live in the slums. The difference? Yeah, I’ve read some pretty bad stuff in the past (not on purpose-) but this one was probably the worst and especially so when I basically reread this with them. I have no issue with angst and I am a sucker for character development and redemption arcs but this story just takes the worst things and basically says “oh by the way, we’re not changing the female lead at all. She’ll stay the same since she was abused and is now obviously in the right to kill anybody and everybody she wants”. I only read until chapter 7 or so but from the reviews I could tell she doesn’t change at all, in fact she gets worse and even destroys his house at some point. It’s awful, overly dark and the characters are both just the generic stereotype with reversed genders like you said. I feel like it leaves an even more bitter taste in your mouth however because the rape isn’t even clarified to be bad, it’s glorified especially in the uncensored version and it’s never addressed which just pushes the rhetoric that “men can’t be raped” when they definitely can. THIS. I recommend “Mother’s Contract Marriage” (as it’s known on Tapas) so, so, so much. A side POV to the reincarnation/regressor trope is so fresh and fun, the child protagonist is really cute and charming, plus the art to the comic is some of the most colorful and vivid styles I’ve ever had the pleasure to see. He wasnt angry, sad, and never even addressed it. He never rebelled or fought back later on even when people are clearly disrespecting him and the FL. Hellper: Action comic with a very unique artsyle and epic fights. A motorbike gang leader died and recieved a black bracelet signalling that he's going straight to hell. Pissed off, he seeks to collect 100 white bracelets to enter heaven. It's funny but also deeply emotional comic about life and death, and what memories you leave behind for your loved ones. @@BooTheEater Currently reading Plaza Wars! It's pretty new and webtoon is advertising it, but it's a good story if you like something like gang stuff in manhwa. The story follows a guy called Gijun that was the strongest man in the crime world, but then his younger brother joined an enemy gang. Fearing that he might end up going against his brother, he quits and tries to live an ordinary life. However, when his brother wound up dead right before he quits too, Gijun goes on a hunt to find the one responsible for his death. Im mostly reading it for the artstyle alone. It gives me that pop-culture esque vibe and the action scenes are masterfully drawn. The whole series just oozes out style.

I decided to read this webcomic on another website, since it was removed in webtoons, because I was curious about how they would justify this tyrant's awful actions, specially against the paladin. Also, on the website I found, the title is "The PREADTORY marriage between the king and the paladin" so point for them I guess. I read until chapter 30 or 31 About the rape. Not that it would be any better if it was a one time thing, but it happened 2 more times. And there is also one time that isn't exactly rape but still predatory and could land on the "sexual assault" category. The backstory of their past is tragic, he was physically punished as a priest or something like that and she was a princess tormented by the consort of the king and her children. They fell in love, yadda yadda, had to get separated because "she is a noble and deserves better" and he didn't take on her offer for them to run away together, but then HE had to run away alone because he almost killed the "chief priest" or whatever because he suggested on getting the girl as a play thing for nobles. And she didn't get any explanation so she thought she was abandoned. And then she finds out by other people that he was building a house in a village that was perfect for a couple and got jealous, thinking it was for another woman (it was for her). She destroys the house, he is clueless, she goes back to the palace, he declares his love for her and tell her he wants to show her something, takes her to the place the house was built, boom it was destroyed, he gets heartbroken, then she tells him she thought it was for another woman and everything gets resolved, next chapter they have a fucking child, by then I stopped reading because it is clear that even though the title says it is predatory, the issue of her being a rapist is never addressed and he is okay with having a child with her and all the backstory was completely told by then. So basically, since he always wanted her and was okay with the times he was fucking raped by her, the comic wants us to think "it's all good" when it is not how it fucking works Also the backstory feels more of an explanation as to why her raping him was okay because they loved each other and he abandoned her, instead of making the reader feel like the backstory is adding depth to their character and makes us understanding of them. I feel like the premise of the comic could have been good, either if they took rape seriously and made the comic about the paladin trying to escape from this abusive relationship and killed the tyrant, or if there was no rape at all. Here is what could have made the comic decent and likeable for me, as a romance fan: First, they should have made the tyrant likeable. There are ways to make tyrants likeable, first by making them kill only bad people, second by making them help good people, and third by showing us they aren't cruel one dimensional beings, there are reasons for them to take the power by force, showing the corruption within the politics and being a tyrant just to "restore society". That may not be the right way of doing things in real life, but that does make a lot of fictional tyrants likeable. I thought it was really weird how the paladin was sold into a marriage he couldn't object to. He was sold by his ESTRANGED father, nonetheless. Also, it was in exchange for the father's life. Assuming the tyrant only executes people who are in the wrong, she wouldn't accept this shit. She would just have killed him regardless. It was weird how the rejection of the sons is explained by them being unattractive in some sort of way. "the old one, the ugly one and the one who couldn't keep it in his pants". It just makes she sound shallow when the reasoning could simply be her not being interested and killing them because they're bad people, until she hears the name of the paladin, then she kills the father and decides she wants to look for him to try and get married. The way to get the paladin to get married to her, shouldn't be by force or by tricking him, but by asking him and his group to come to the palace formally, and then after some sort of conversation with the paladin with a lot of anger and also misunderstandings about him trying to explain himself for the past, he agrees to getting married, which surprises the tyrant. After marriage this could go two ways, they both CONSENT in spending a night as a newly wed couple or they sleep in separate rooms because the tyrant thinks the paladin needs time to be ready for that. Either could be good. For the story to build up and last, I think some misunderstandings should happen because the tyrant does not want to hear excuses about the past, because she is afraid of the truth being that he left for another woman or because he didn't want her back then, but romance happens regardless. Then the tyrant hears about the house the paladin built and builds a wall between them. This would make for some proper drama. As she wouldn't be portrayed as an abusive controlling character, I think the anger fit about the house would be just a few things, not the whole house. The way the drama resolves would be for the couple to have proper communication and for the tyrant to overcome her insecurities. Then she gives up the tyrant title and they both go live in the house he made for her. They live happily ever after with consent yay I literally remade the premise in a way that makes the relationship non-predatory. Also if, by my premise, it was decided that they would have no wedding night, this could even be a webcomic appropriate for teens. I read the episodes just incredibly disappointed because it is not that hard to make an outline for a decent romance story that has anger and misunderstandings within, without having one party abusing the other in any way, shape or form. It already upsets me when there is a abusive MC in a story and it isn't acknowledged, this one went way too far. The abuse was romanticized, and never seen as a problem because the victim didn't mind it, there was no actual romance other than the past story or the moments where the paladin was affectionate, but those didn't feel right because of the abuse he went through with her. What could be a good premise was wasted into a fetish story about rape. No matter how much you love someone, if that person abuses you in any shape or form, you will be hurt. It does not make sense to make a story, specially one put in an app for fucking teenagers, where the person abused is fine with it. EDIT: I just read a comment talking about how this comic not only glorifies rape, but there is a nsfw version that makes it graphic. So yeah, nvm, the comic never meant to be a good story, it is just a stage to showcase rape porn.

It really bugs me that Webtoon claims to have rules about what they do and don't allow in stuff published there but SO MUCH sexual content manages to slip through and become AN ORIGINAL. I love reading stuff on Webtoon and even plan to publish one of my own comics there on Canvas so it saddens me to see the state of the platform and the poor quality of some of the work published there. On a side note, I don't think saying that Webtoon's userbase is only "dumb-a** kids" is fair or even true and it perpetuates negative stereotypes about the online comic community - same comment about calling Webtoon creators "all the other idiots on Webtoon," like there's lots of great, skilled, and hardworking artists on Webtoon and lumping them in with the people who make this kind of stuff is just insulting to the people who actually produce quality work and take this kind of stuff seriously - but other than that, I agree with most of what you said in this video. I'd say it's not JUST a problem on Webtoon, but in media in general - it's OK to see things in a romantic light, but DRAW THE LINE at abuse. Just... don't ever romanticize that, people!

At least something like tapas has a paywall which reduces who can buy it, since most kids don't have credit cards. I think portrayals of dubcon can work in stories, even romance stories, but it has to be done in a specific way. Like, Under the Oak Tree starts out with a sort of dubcon wedding night where because its an arranged marriage for political reasons neither of them have much of a choice, and while the FL doesn't want to, but can't say that it makes it complicated. I enjoyed the story since the FL has a lot of insecurities about herself that she's slowly overcoming with the help of her husband and friends. also the ML is... very nice to look at... and there are a lot of people who don't like Under the Oak Tree because of the wedding night scene and honestly that's totally understandable! Also I was so excited when I saw the title because I thought it would be a story like "The Emperor's Knight" which is one that had potential and then wasted it by becoming a romance. Something like it would be so cool if it could stick the landing, but then this one is just forced marriage + drugged wedding night + free to read website that skews to the teen range.

I don't fully agree with what you guys said. I think there are some stories that can blend plot with some steamy stuff very well. I do think honestly prefer a little story or plot investment so I can get to know the characters. I know I might be in the minority for that but that is just my 2 cents. This story though is a no for me, too much lore dump too quickly. If they slowly revealed more of the story so we could get more invested in seeing the main character overcome his trials. Also, having the female lead lose in the end would improve the story. I am not sure about the webtoons site being just for little kids since there was a mature warning when you guys clicked on the comic. I don't know if people have to make an account to see these comics or not and certain comics can get age restricted like youtube videos if it has certain adult content. There's another webcomic I read that's completed that I have blocked the title of from my memory because of how mad it made me. The ending is SO BAD, the comments in the first and following chapters SPOIL IT. So from what I remember, it starts with the normal "rewind time" heroin plot. Her husband abuses the hell out of her, SA's her, get's her pregnant from that SA, and I believe shoves her down and she loses the baby heavily pregnant all while cheating on her with another woman (who was his destined bride, who ended up being sent to another world by accident??) It ends with her father being offed, and the heroine being beheaded before cursing god. Pretty brutal stuff right? You'd expect her to go back in the rewind and stay tf away from him and make a new destiny for herself?? Well, that's what it does, for a bit. They halfway through the goddamn webtoon get her and the king "back together" and they explain away ALL THE ABUSE AND HORRIBLE TREATMENT he did to her, ON A DRUG!!! I'm completely leaving out the subplots of perfectly capable new ML's for the heroine, and the brutal DESECRATION of one of the male leads by making him go from a kind friend to a psychotic stalker. on the other hand, I really liked "The remarried empress" I even bought the first volume in a physical copy! I love how the moment he steps out on her (with another woman) and starts treating the empress like poop, she says, "Ugh, I'm done with this." Trashta and Sovieshit deserve each other XP.

No I am actually so relieved that someone else thinks that apps like webtoon, webcomics, etc are actually glamourizing SA. I absolutely hated reading romantic manwha that started or had Female/Male lead characters SA'ing the main character, but they would be excused from it simply because of the fact that they looked attractive, or the person on the other end "enjoyed it". I understand that it's fiction and not real, but still, LITERALLY the author(s) and audience will think "Look they're attractive so it's not bad." It's ridiculous how people would give characters like that a pass, not only is it disgusting but also completely disrespectful to people who have been victims of SA. The fact that even the author of this comic is glamourizing r^pe with the victim as a male is just another low.

All these shitty webtoons you review fuel my inspiration to keep drawing my comics. I'm tired of boring protagonists that are self inserts, so i'm making the story about a monster that eats vampires, the protagonist is inspired from two characters, Jhonny from Jhonny the Homocidal Maniac and Denji from chainsaw man. I want a protagonist that scares the antagonists, instead of the hero's running from the villians it's the opposite. I'm still not very amazing at art so I focus a lot on world building and story telling to make up for my lack of refined skills.

A rating of three stars and less has got to be the lowest rating I've seen on a webtoon original. The only other scores I've seen get nearly as low as that are Food Fighters and Religiously Gay, and those only got to 4 and 5 stars.
