do you have a more detailed photo or printout showing how you soldered the wiring directly to the circuit board?

Hey man thanks! you mentioned a few things that I did not know, I feel silly, my whole issue with my 2.1 was sound would come out distorted and super Bassy and then it wasn’t clicking on like it usually clicks on when you connect to Bluetooth. I was contemplating buying the whole new system, but I went into airdrop and I had my airdrop on receiving AirDrop. Turned it off. It works now.! Hallelujah, thank you

Wow, I tried this even though I have only soldered one other time in my life. I only had one speaker working so it was all or nothing! It worked for me. THANKS!!!!!

Thanks for the video. This got my broken ProMedia up and running again. I actually chose to drill through the MDF rather than the metal plate. It kind of sucks having the satellite speaker permanently fixed to the subwoofer, but I'm thrilled to have it working again regardless :)

Brian, I took advantage of the very useful wire color information you provided in your first comment. I checked continuity between the pads on the circuit board that you soldered to and the corresponding pins on the connector socket. I chose to reuse the broken off 6 pin mini-din connector plug that remained in the socket. I cut off the old connector shell and prepared the cable so that I could solder the individual wires in the cable along with its shield. I then carefully soldered the wires to the exposed pins on the back of the connector plug. I soldered the cable shield to the metal tab that extends from the connector plug shield. With that shield at the bottom, and starting at the rear pin to its left, and going clockwise, the wire connections are green, orange, brown , red, yellow, and black. This coincides with the order of wire colors to the printed circuit board because the printed circuit board preserves the connector pin order.After testing, I increased integrity slightly with RTV (silicone bathroom caulk in my case) applied to the back of the connector along with the wires . I bought the Klipsch ProMedia at Goodwill for $6, and was not willing to invest more time or money than this.
he answers are all in colors....how about functions? I would like to use the subwoofer without the control module. How can din plug be wired for line-level outputs?

Excellent repair!!! very smart! hopefully later on down the line the main signal and DSP DIN cable can be removable at some point to make set up and tear down of the speaker system easier. my 2 year old promedia 2.1 system is starting to have crackling pots.... time to hit them with DetoxiT.

Hey. I have this same subwoofer Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. The problem I'm having is it makes a loud humming noise when powered on. Speakers still play fine. Sub still hums even when disconnected from Speakers and PC. What do you think the cause is?

Hi Brian, thanks for the video. I have the exact same problem. Can you tell me which color wire should be soldered to which part of the circuit board. It's not very clear in the video. Thanks!!!
@bfriesen7511 жыл бұрын
Yea, I guess my fat finger and bad lighting make it hard to see. Looking at the connector as pictured in the video there are two columns of 4 solder points. The first row is orange on the left and green on the right. The second column is brown on the left and nothing connected on the right. The third row is red on the left and nothing connected on the right. And the final row is yellow on the left and black on the right. The unshielded ground cable can be soldered to any ground point on the circuit board. Good luck.
@TheBuddilla8 жыл бұрын
Is it possible to make a drawing of the solder points. Your explanation above is confusion at best at least to me. I thinking of setting up the cable coming out of the preamp into female rca or trs connectors and then adding males to the original din cable. Any help would be great.

how do you open the fuse in the rear? The plastic piece that shows a directional arrow was pointless!

unscrew the amp and look for two smaller boards adjacent to the the largest one. each one of the two should have a fuse. one of those fuses was out on mine while the main fuse was fine. one is a 250v 2.5amp and the other is a 250v 3amp

I'm not very handy with a soldering iron (I don't even own one) but wondered if you ever came across an MDIN to 2.5mm cable when you were originally going to fix this. Your problem is a bit different than mine but the sub end of my cable is now damaged (stepped on) and now I'm trying to find a replacement cable. The sub socket itself on mine is fine.

The 2.1 sounds great until you hear the 5.1 system that I have. The problem I have is back in 2003 after only 3 months mine quit working as did most any other peoples that purchased them. At that time we had a forum to share idea's back and forth in regards as to how to repair the sub woofer which was bad on most of them. The company didn't have an answer until months later as to the cause of the sub woofer going bad. Come to find out when Klipsch designed the sub woofer for the 5.1 system they under estimated just how hot the interior of the sub woofer would get. There fix was to install a larger heat sink for added cooling for the sub woofer. I guess it worked out ok but I became ill and was never able to send mine into Klipsch repair center to have it repaired. Here it is July 21, 2015 and my Wife is cleaning my shop and came across my system or packaged in its original boxes just waiting to be sent out. Now I have to see if the company will still repair the sub because they quit making them back in 2003. I have had many sound system including Bose well lets just say the list goes on and on. But the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 was by far the best sounding system I have ever had. The bass was so clear - the mids clear - highs clear just a darn great sounding system for the $549 I paid for it. Someone once stated they were going to just install a cooling fan and my point in it not working was the sub being in an enclosed box so by just sticking a fan inside to circulate hot air made no sense to me. Let me know if you ever have run across a bad sub for the 5.1 system and if you had any luck repairing it ok. Cheers

I also used to have the Promedia 5.1 and it was amazing, I wish Klipsch still made it, but now they only make the Promedia 2.1 and the Promedia 2.0, it's ashame

Sir, you already have gone this far, why not respond in providing to those amongst us who have no clue about electronics whatsoever, a clear illustration or a diagram where each wire goes. Also, by providing an explanation in layman's terms and simple tips. We are all consumers. This way we can all be happy. This goes to those who are successful on working on their own units as well. We thank Brian first and foremost and all of you for your relentless efforts in advance.

My right-side speaker stopped working. Wires are good, speaker is ok. Narrowed the problem down to the main unit. Checked connections inside, no sign of a potential problem. Any ideas?
@romaboy58729 жыл бұрын
+zzsql Same thing just happened to me after I just turned the sub in a different direction. I checked all the wiring and plugs for tight connection but still didn't work so I googled the problem and it seems that a lot of people found the din plug on this model has a lot of problems as Brain stated. I also had a scratchy volume control for years that I have been living with. Anyway, For $22.80 I just bought the whole control pod off of amazon being sold by Klipsch. I don't know yet if this will solve my problem but I'll give it a shot.

Yes, these are still awesome speakers regardless of the price. And yes the pins are delicate for the subwoofer and commonly break. Be careful. Replacement: www.klipsch.com/products/klipsch-promedia-2-1-computer-speakers?model=control-pod

For us, the two mains stopped working, then shortly after, the sub also stopped working. One 25uf 50V capacitor for under $2.00 and a little solder work solved it for us.
