Let's Restore The Clear Coat On My C7 CORVETTE....Part 3!!

This is the THIRD segment of a series restoring and correcting blemishes on the clear coat of a C7 Corvette stingray. What makes this correction unique...is it has already been corrected. It was done very carelessly. This time around I will do it correctly and with great caution as to leave behind as much clear coat as possible. Follow along as almost everyone will come across this problem in one form or another.

Yes- How do detailers manage to almost destroy the paint? Can they not see what they've done? I've actually not polished my current cars with a DA or rotary for fear of making the paint look worse. Your videos are giving me more confidence to break out the pads and get to work! Thanks!

I love it except two things, time and location. Time because I can never do it in the time allowed meaning I lose out, but sometimes it worth it for happy customers. Location because I'm mobile and you never know what the area the car will be in is like until you get there, gravel drive, steep drive (they're a killer) or even narrow drive resulting in working on grass. These things can make lower panels and bumbers difficult to work on. As for the end of the day I have arthritis in my neck and right wrist so it usually hurts. But the results are always worth it and there's nothing like that feeling of satisfaction. One day perhaps I'll get a workshop but stuff like that in the UK is expensive with rates etc and with the amount you can charge in my area I'm not sure it would pay. Your workshop looks heavenly Brian. 👍

Spot on. Detailing for me is peaceful. Allows me to put everything to the side for those hours and enjoy bringing a car back to what I call its Sexiness. As for aches, yes. After a long day of working on a car I usually feel it in my feet and my right shoulder. But after a good soak in the tube I am usually back to about 85%. Just for note I do this on the side. I have a full time sit down job that I enjoy but eventually I want to transition into detailing when I retire from the desk job.

For my mind it's therapy but not much so for my body. I have a lot of nerve damage in the neck and the lower back. It's really bad so I'm not able to have a job sadly. Even a quick wash gets the pain levels up a lot. And doing some more than that it gets many days in bed until the pain levels goes down again. Still I think it's fun and would have loved to be able to do more of it. I'm not so OCD in general. But when I do detailing I go more often beyond what I need to be doing LOL. Something simple can get to complicated and time consuming very fast. Detailing has become a big interest since 3 years ago. When I bought a newer car for me I was tired of the damage from the swirlomatic car washes. So started reading and joined a domestic detailing forum and read a lot. Then moved on to the Autogeek and Autopia forums. And then started to look at detailing KZbin videos. Have been following you for at least 2 years or a little more I think. And Forensic Detailing Channel and Car Craft Auto Detailing Channel is another ones I still following today. You have learn me so much with all of the information about detailing and products you share is just awesome. Can't thank you enough Brian! Would be very interesting to see a comparison video between the so called one step polish/compounds. What they are capable of doing with different pads both in finishing and correction. And on different hardness of the clearcoat too. And this is with the polishes like 3D One that leaves nothing behind as in protection and glossenhancers. 3D One and the Scholl S20 Black SS and Tac System Refinish Ultra and Sonax Cut and Finish/ExCut 05-05 and Menzerna PF2500/HC400 and CSi CeramX polish and products like that where they are in the middle of the cut and finishing. It would be very fun to see as many of these polishes in a video or 2 being compared together. And as thoroughly testing as you can get. The Vette starts to looking very wet and a huge depth and clarity from the paint. Also interesting when you don't get everything out of the defects even if it's sad on such of a newer car and nice looking. And also a black paint will be awesome to see the final results you get on it.

Hey Brian, Another awesome job! The more I watch and learn, the more confidence I gain to tackle things that I haven't tried. You mention theripuedic, that is what it is for me. Just as soon listen to a polisher as anything that you can find on the television. I have three years until retirement and unfortunately, I cannot afford pricey equipment to use once I leave my daily 8-9 grind. Any preferences on the lower priced equipment will be appreciated. Yes, I have questions. I also have a black Corvette, it is a 2013 C6 and it amazes me how the scratches got on it to begin with. I purchased the complete line of Sonax products and even using the cutmax compound with the low lint pad or the microfiber pad or the orange pad either on the rotary or the orbital polisher on setting 3 at 1" per minute and in 1' × 1' section at a time you can almost hear the clear coat saying " Is that all you got?????" I basically just use the weight of the polisher cradling with my left hand to guide and keeping the pad flat except for the slight tip when using the rotary to settle it down from time to time. I really wish I lived within 20 miles at least from your shop your skill and patience is amazing. Do you think I'm just codling the clearcoat too much ?????
@apexdetail85

The clear on that really is stubborn. Team up the Sonax with a microfiber cut pad or if you are using a rotary...wool pads will get some work done.

@@apexdetail85 thank you Brian for the response back . I have tried the rotary with the wool pad and the microfiber with the orbital " 8 mm throw" with Sonax cutmax and perfect finish. It just seems as if it does nothing, but I am just cradling with my left hand to guide each and to guide so basically just the weight of the polisher but setting 3 on each and about 1" per minute just as you have instructed I even purchased the 550 rotary from your video recomendations and I see you use that rotary quite a bit.

Hey Brian! Great great stuff! I had a question about the rotary. I’m debating between the Maxshine M550 and M1000. My question is, with the smaller rotary, can I still use a 5 inch backing plate on it and have it work just as good as the M1000? Also, with the extension and smaller pads (1”, 2”) does the M550 work better for that set up, or can I use that setup on the M1000? I only want to buy one or the other so I’m wanting to know which one is better for both scenarios. Thanks! Great channel!
