What is the worst detailing hack job you have come across?
@alanwallace32535 жыл бұрын
I had a 2013 Lexus SUV, owner was washing it with Dawn dishwasher soap. Worked wonders on the car, stripped any and all protection, and the rear plastic spoiler was burnt 😨. I rescued the rest of the car removing all the hard water ( Almost every car I get has mineral deposits embedded in the glass and clear) enhanced the paint, then cleaned the interior. Owner was thankful, then I got his new Navigator to protect ! It’s sad to see some of the abuse I’ve seen to some real nice cars. To cover myself I document them all and communicate with the customer before I start. It’s always special when I can improve or correct some hack work. Still learning, always in the back of my mind... Safety First, and least aggressive methods. Thanks for all you do.

I am being totally honest too...He always goes into detail (no pun intended) explaining what he is doing and why he is doing it. I look at each day like I am in class at a school for detailing! I just finished polishing my C7 with a hex foam pad from chemical guys (green & orange). I used a 8mm DA polisher and turtle wax ceramic hybrid polish. I must say that it was soooooo hard to even see a difference in the clear coat. Don’t get me wrong it was an improvement but I feel like I could have done much better. The turtle wax ceramic coating feels and looks great on my garage baby. What should I change? I’m doing my corolla next with qyeon Syncro. I have a feeling that the same setup will cut better on that.

Thanks I am going switch my C7 emblems from chrome to carbon flash. Worse part on mine is the transparent roof which is crazing (spider webs) badly. Apparently the clear fails just like on the C6. I live in FL so I think I’m just going to wrap it. Since I track my C7 (videos on my channel) I have PPF and love it, sure it’s not as nice as paint but the protection is totally worth it. I got EOS side skirts, the finish on them isn’t perfect maybe a 8/10 but for the money its a great deal. When tracking the car the side skirts are a must due to all crap that gets kicked up at speed.

I have a C7 and there are plenty of nicks by on the door edge near where you took the Clear film off. I assume its from the rocks coming off the front tires. What would be a good way to attack the nicks so they aren't so obvious? Been pondering this for while.
@apexdetail855 жыл бұрын
Minor nicks can be improved by a bit of wet sanding. I have a kit coming in that will help protect from that type of damage...stay tuned.

@g.dubyou62635 жыл бұрын
Wow, when you say there’s not much clear, left. I definitely didn’t expect the combination you used. And you’re still going to do a finish polish. Waow. And I was worried about hitting mine with an orange pad and a D/A, with griots boss correcting cream. My car is white, and I don’t think my clear, is as bad as this. But I do think it’s been coated. There are a few telltale signs of some high spots that didn’t get knocked down, on the hood, behind the hood vent. Can I do this pad and HD one, with a Torq22D? That’s all I have besides a Rupes 3 inch and the new Adams micro. Or do I need a rotary?

Again, why would a detailer see it necessary to tape curves to avoid burning-off paint? If the buffer is removing paint, you probably should not use a buffer. Isn't the goal of detailing to keep a car in good condition? If the car is reasonably maintained why rebuff the clear coat? Paint today is so well applied at the factory it requires relatively little attention to detail.
@danlc955 жыл бұрын
It depends. In some instances, we have to level the clear coat to remove evidence of daily wear and tear, automatic car washes / aggressive or improper wash methods, or other peoples inadequate work.
@apexdetail855 жыл бұрын
You couldnt be more incorrect. Clear coat is NOT being properly applied being a quarter of a mil short of what is necessary to fully protect the base coat. 2 mills minimum is recommended by PPG. Manufacturers are barely putting 1,3/4 mils on newer cars to save money. Protecting peaks and high points is only common sense for a beginner....as I explained.
@mrpmj005 жыл бұрын
Why would you want to remove the stingray logo? The logo makes the car distinct from every cookie cutter fat and angry looking car out there.
