If you work repairing pinball tables, these videos should be required viewing. Especially EM variety. I still can get over the quality of the wiring looms. An art lost as point to point soldering went out.

I have done a few older radios lately and the globes are often 50 plus years old, and usually at least one is dead, but I find it is just a little bit of a pain to pull the chasis out to replace globes so I just change them all. As far as the flippers, the DC flippers tend to be stronger as the magnetic fields in the coils are stronger with the power going one way. Also DC coils don't tend to buzz as much. Looking at the mathematical equation, assuming it is money, it could be related to a repair.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I mentioned it in this video but I eventually figured out the flippers aren't DC on this one, it's just the pop bumpers and the kicker! That's kind of weird, you'd think if anything they'd want the flippers to be DC.... this was in one of those 'in between' eras....
@EsotericArctos
@EsotericArctos 4 жыл бұрын
@@LyonsArcade likely they didn't go DC on flippers because the coils get hotter when they are held on. Bumpers tend to be very quick snaps rather than being able to be held. AC coils run a lot cooler than DC coils. Flippers may burn out more often if they are held on and running as DC. Once they went solid state it was easier to do DC everything.

I think they may actually be the wrong ones, the originals are very similar though but they have little arms that stick out from the side. Or maybe they used two types on this one... I don't know what these would off of though.... I don't believe they make reproductions of this style.

It can go two ways but usually if you look at it enough you can tell which way is backwards :) On the older ones though they put rivets everywhere and then just wired SOME up... so it's harder to tell, because it looks exactly the same even if it's on backwards, it's just not touching the correct rivets!

If I had to guess that dielectric grease is normally an insulator but it has a specific breakdown voltage.... which is to say at a certain high enough voltage it's insulation properties are broken down or overpowered by the voltage, and it will only be high enough to bridge it when the spider pads are actually over the contacts... sort of like you can see the breakdown point of air when high voltage arcs through it.

I think the thing with the LEDs vs incandescent bulbs is the on/off times. In these older games, they look better with the slower lighting. Some things are meant to look the way they were made. 😎😎

Does it sound like it's trying or is it just sitting there? If it's just sitting there likely there's a switch dirty or misadjusted on the outhole relay or in that line on the schematics, if it is making noise like the score motor is running then it may be that the bonus unit is having trouble resetting and the unit needs to be cleaned....

@@LyonsArcade I am guessing these numbers refer to something electrical. It would not be volts, I don't think, and it would not be amps, so watts or ohms are the only other 2 that could make sense. It would be interesting to see if that was original. If other machines of the same make and model made at the same time have these notations on them. @Tranarpnorra
@Tranarpnorra 4 жыл бұрын
@@LyonsArcade Well, actually the capacitor symbol came before they started to use a similar one for relay logic. This symbol would be the unipolar capacitor symbol. PLC-programming (Ladder programs specifically) uses the same symbol which is a heritage from the relay logic era. It can be confusing but if you have worked in an industry as an electrician, which I have, these pecularities are everyday knowledge. =) EM pinball machines are just one big PLC-program built with relays if looking back in time. Keep up the god work!
