Some pretty neat finds at this flea market. Besides the old photograph, the Dell purse books rack was my absolute favorite. It needs a little bit of restoration work, but will be perfect for a book collection. Use a brass wire brush for a soft cleaning, I wouldn´t paint it afterwards. By the way, Renée: what happened to the huge amount of books you bought recently ? Are they still "sleeping" or already to be sold on ebay or similar platforms ?! Have a fantastic Thursday, and see you on the next one ! 🖐Greets from GER, U.

Do you mean the Atlantic City Historical Society books? They are in my sorting pile for now. Jimmy said he had more paper for me, so I want to wait & see if any show up so that they can be grouped together. The little rack was a cute find & as you said, I won’t paint it, just try to clean it up a little bit. For $5, not a bad little find at all! Hope that it was a good day over “across the pond”!

You should have grabbed the box of miniatures. They are so expensive now and if they were a good deal you could make lots of money on them. They are harder to find now. Loved the tiny figure down in the box. I think there is a spray that converts rusty items. Check out your local home depot or Lowes and ask the paint department person. They should know. Take a picture so they know what you are trying to do. Good luck.

If guess you want to keep the paint, so loose rust is removed with fine steel wool and water, preferably one that comes without added soap. A little diesel instead of water is fine if you can stomach the stench. There are of course many good chemicals that do the job, but I don't know what is available over there and which also damage the paint. There are also sanding sponges that are equivalent to sanding paper 500 grit and up, but I assume you don't have that kind lying around.
@rudolphbondefangerer55137 ай бұрын
You have the same shit I use, Evapo-rust. I should know, it is a CRC product after all. I believe they are based in Pennsylvania so yeah, they should sell their products in America. And you can just pour it back in its container after use and it will be rady for a new rodeo down the road.

Lucky you...yet another flea market to rummage through! Although, like Buzz, I collect and restore vintage radios...that modern "RADIO" unit stood out...at first glance, looks like a portable AC unit, however, it's a Boom Box of unknown make...I would have explored that one, as I have a friend who is getting into Boom Box collecting! Those Popular Science and Mechanics bring back memories of the large collection my late dad had...they went back to the 40's. I seen my home state, California, is represented in that collection of trays. The Golden State! That card stock Lionel sized box car goes back to the WW 2 era. I remember those...as toy production ceased, due to steel and other metals shortages, card stock and heavier board, as well as wood took over. Those skies look gloomy...like here! The rusted Dell Book rack could be "bead blasted"...this is the use of fine quartz sand shot at high pressure through a small nozzle. This is done in a glass-walled booth, or box, hands in rubber gloves made for the purpose. The Dell signage covered up...don't want that to get erased!
@PaperandMoose7 ай бұрын

Fun "ride-along;" thanks! I would never have known that the medallion was for a casket. I wonder if it was a spare, or bought and not used, or rejected for some reason? My father has a Christmas setup including some of the plastic picket fence @6:00 - but I think the fence was added from something else. The Yellowstone box - very cool. See deadhorse1391 comment below! Or perhaps it was an extra from an old funeral home cleanout (one could wish for that!) How often do old funeral homes come up for a cleanout though? I do remember last year a fellow flea market seller happened upon a yard sale where the lady was selling items from a funeral home that her late father had done work at years & years ago. Of course, all of the paperwork had been thrown out. Isn’t that how it always happens? A little History Behind the Paper for tomorrow & then headed out to an auction this weekend, plus hopefully the flea market if no rain! Hope that your week has gone well!

@@PaperandMoose back when I was in college I was involved with a woman that had an antique shop with some guy She told me they had bought out an old funeral home in Baltimore and there were some coffins . I had a ‘65 VW camper so she wanted me to go over with her to get them Seemed fishy because she wanted to go in the middle of the night and the guy couldn’t make it but what the hey Get there go in the back door, no electric but we had some lanterns, the coffins were on the third floor. Get there and these are big coffins, no way me and her were going to get one down those steps and I had doubts about fitting one in my VW van, she said we can tie it on the roof Ended up she loaded up some wrought iron candle stands , parking funeral sign and a pulpit There were some antique suits in cardboard boxes, she thought I would look good in them so i put them in the VW Get it home and I got looking at the suits …they are open down the back and the pants only went down to the Knees!

Easiest way to get the rust off, get it sand blasted. It shouldn’t cost that much for the small rack and will save a lot of time. You can get it off manually but it will be a lot of work. If you get it sand blasted it will come back to you rust free! My Dad used to restore old antique rusty cars. Some pieces were sanded by hand but, bumpers and difficult pieces were taken to get sand blasted. 🙃
