This is part of the reason why I am a big advocate of the EA. I wanna get the CPA + that.

This is my favourite video that you’ve done so far. The fact that the training hasn’t changed in 50 years (in the UK anyway) is clearly problematic. I’d love to see the bodies move towards being as helpful as possible in creating accountants who are as helpful as possible. I did degree plus CA training. 100% of that was focused on teaching me how to be correct, never any discussion about the clients experience of dealing with an accountant

Love this take, Jason-especially the part about specializing licensing in specific areas. I got my EA at 19 and was able to start my own firm after just a year of experience working for somebody else-now I get the whole pie and can outsource bookkeeping and payroll. Just the specialization you were talking about.

There was nothing mentioned about my law degree and I’m so mad. I definitely spent way more on that degree than what I might’ve spent on an MBA or Masters in Accounting

Great topic. My wife pushed me hard to get my CPA and to study hours every day... I didn't even want it that badly. I got in the year before they changed to from 120 to 150... I never wanted to do 150. I'm now really happy that I have it, I know I don't need it for the tax and bookkeeping stuff that I do, but it does give me that "Maserati" feeling walking into a room / conference /etc. One thing I will definitely say is that I "stay in my lane" - I think it's great that audit firms need to be peer reviewed. I will NEVER touch an audit - I do only what I know how to do because I don't want to tarnish the CPA brand.

enable a path of success for everyone and acknowledging privilege is invisible to those who have it...telling it how it is...great stuff

Ooo gripe time 😂 Audit guy here. The small tax CPAs with no desire to learn about assurance requirements need to stop issuing audits and reviews. Especially when they are doing it for half the price of what it costs to do it right. My favorite one I took over said on the opinion(among MANY obvious errors), “we are not aware of any material medications…” 😂😂

I got the EA because I considered that to be the baseline for me before I was willing to even look at someone else's tax return, but I didn't have any tax knowledge when I got it, so it's not really that helpful. If they created a pathway for a certification that didn't require college that was CPA adjacent, I'd be the first in line to sign up. Until that happens, I'll stick with EA, and hopefully USTCP and CTA (UK version of EA) at the end of the year.

This was good. There’s definitely a need for more talented professionals regardless of your credentials. I started studying for the CPA, passed two and paused at REG and then I’ve been getting hired and getting clients at increasing rates so my motivation is low haha. I’m out here training CPAs now. I do want to finish it though.

So I don't need a CPA in order to do corporate tax returns?
@GnarshredProductions Жыл бұрын
I wish there was a certified external auditor credential kind of like how you can become a CIA. If I want to work in audit for my career why should I have to pass REG doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

"Streamlined" new credentials might be good for 1040 prep that is it. Doesn't work for 1065, 1120S/1120C where double entry accounting knowledge is required for balance sheet reporting requirements on those tax returns. Seen several "Deficient" returns where the preparer just leaves the balance sheet blank. Not a good thing.

When you say "streamlined new credentials", which credentials are you referring to exactly? EA, CPA?
