Take it from me- never budget more than 90% of your pay for strip bars.....89 % is fine, just don't get carried away.

I’m loving your informative videos so much! You seem like an awesome person and it’s really great to have someone like you breaking down these concepts, as a high schooler trying to decide what to do.
The thing about the military that most people just don't think about are the expenses. Yeah, maybe an accountant earns the same or more than you but that accountant has to pay for healthcare, is probably in debt with his education, and doesn't receive a bunch of more benefits that a soldier would get (such as discounts in a bunch of stuff and places) If you're really smart with your money you can put like 25% or sometimes even more of you're paycheck in the Savings account or investment

I'm in Army ROTC and about to graduate/commission next month. We actually just had a lesson on LESs today, so this was helpful with reiterating some of that info. Also your example budget was very good at putting things into perspective. Thank you for the video!

How realistic is it to try to save more by eating at the mess hall and living on base?
@brendan53527 жыл бұрын
You can only live on post if you're married and if you live on post you don't get BAH. Personally I save a lot of my BAH living off post and not living alone

if you went to college first, how does the Army help pay for loans? I know there is the GI bill, but really not clear how it all works
@brendan53527 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that's something I'm not too keen on either. I know for me I'd have to serve more than my initial 4 year contract to be eligible for the GI bill but I believe that's only because I got a scholarship in ROTC
@mattc36507 жыл бұрын
A bit late, but your MOS has to have LRP (loan repayment program) as a sign in bonus. When I joined there was only one MOS that has that bonus and mine was not it. That being the case the army will not pay for any of my loans, but I still get the GI bill if I go back to school in the future.

The explanation of how the stocks work in the TSP was very wrong.
@brendan53528 жыл бұрын
Not sure what was wrong about it but here's clarification. There are a number of different funds that are based off the performance of different index's (S&P, Dow Jones, Bonds, etc). Each of these funds has either a low, low-medium, medium, medium-high or high risk rating. You pick the fund or fund(s) and watch your money grow or shrink. You can also change funds later on if you so choose
@AIRFORCEFREAK18 жыл бұрын
You said you risk losing money. Which to most people make them think its gonna be gone and never return. You should say that a TSP is for the long term, in the long term it will 100% be more.
@brendan53528 жыл бұрын
With investing nothing is guaranteed but you are right that it does sound a little misleading, thanks for catching that. I'll put something in there to explain it a little better
@angeleyes33196 жыл бұрын
+USPATRIOT99 He described TSP correctly. Investing in riskier funds COULD mean you lose money depending on the market. They are stocks that plays into the regular stock market. I've been investing in TSP for 15 years. Most people suggest investing in L-fund which is more diverse, great rewards especially over the last 7 years and less risk bc of the diverse portfolio.

How you do it to score +110gt score?
@micaylapresley6 жыл бұрын
It's all about reading comprehension and vocabulary. Improve those two and you're good for the GT score. If you want to improve your overall (you should, because then you can have your pick of MOS's like I did), improve your math, science, spatial awareness, and mechanical ability. (Or... you could go Guard first, choose your MOS, then go active upon graduating AIT. It's a simple matter of transferring.)
If you have an associates degree already and enlist in Army. Do you know the pay rate and rank??

It depends if your orders are TDY or PCS. If it's TDY, which it probably is, you'll be most likely be living in the hotel. I'm fairly confident on base houses are only for people PCSed to that duty station

Thank you so much! I have a quick question, do you know about what percentage of tax altogether are taken out of your paycheck? like 25 percent or....26 percent? thank you~ :)
@brendan53527 жыл бұрын
It depends if you have the Army over withdraw from your paycheck to make sure you don't owe anything at the end of the year or if you have them just try to be as close as possible. It also depends on what state you're in. I have them over withdraw and not including state taxes I'm getting taxed at about 21% of my income (not including BAH or BAS since those are tax free)

Minimum wage? Either your not American and don't know how much money this is or you're just stupid. High school grads average 28k+ before tax, AA degree 35k+ before tax, Bachelors (Which this guy has) 45k+ before tax. Most teachers dont even make as much as this guy and alot of them have masters degrees. This guy is making twice minimum wage. On the plus side when hes deployed, all his expenses are paid for, so all that money goes straight to his bank account.

Are you stupid? Hes making the same as some teachers with masters degrees, 50k a year isnt bad at all, especially if ur single. On the plus side if hes deployed all that money goes straight to his bank account, all his expenses are paid for, thats enough for a large house downpayment.
