Rn they’re passing a bill where if an election is considered to have been decided by “suspicious means,” then the Secretary of State can step in decide the election instead. They’re trying to mitigate Houston’s influence on Texas elections by setting laws that affect high-population areas.

We have only heard a very small amount of what was recorded. This is a very important point. Someone might intend to commit treason, but the initial steps of the plan might be legal. In any other country, in any other time, the people who attacked the capital on January 6 were traitors and would have been hung like those involved with the assassination of President Lincoln. The constitutional definition of treason requires making war upon the United states or aiding and abetting those who do. Moreover, our democratic system requires that everyone, including those who commit treasonous acts be treated as "innocent until proven guilty" in an open court and with a jury of their peers [i.e. fellow citizens] sitting in judgement. There must be proof offered and accepted by the jury in order for a finding of guilty. They tried to take over the government illegally. They were prepared to assassinate people they disagreed with absent objective proof, a fair trial and a jury finding. They are neither patriots nor good citizens, they are opposed to everything that made America great. They, however, are protected by the system that they tried to destroy. Those who want justice served want them prosecuted fairly under law and to receive a just penalty as their treason requires. Make it so Mr. Smith!

I agree with you on the criminality part. the speech and debate clause does indeed give him a lot of cover. I think what this does is A) just shows how far the rot has gone and B) it is a major ethics concern when a sitting senator wants a commission to overturn an election when NO credible examples of wrong doing occurred. Hey, this was just brought to my attention, and I verified some of it. Multiple states are trying to enact laws that allow people as young as 14 to work. Some states are enacting laws that don’t require companies to verify age of minors, so potentially 12 year olds could work. Multiple states are increasing the hours allowed by minors as well as trying to decrease their wage. Multiple states are also trying to allow people as young as 16 to serve booze on late night shifts. You need to look into this and shed light onto this issue!!

I agree that the tape alone isn't enough for a criminal prosecution. As evidence continues to be uncovered, however, there seems to be less question about the bad faith actions of the GOP, starting well before the election. While I'd always thought people like Ted Cruz were just cynically trying to advance their political careers and fundraise (as Cruz literally did _during_ the J6 attack) it's becoming clear there was much more to it. At a minimum, voters should make them pay at the ballot box.

He said the commission was supposed to answer the question of who is inaugurated as president. He was talking to Fox News host Maria Bartitomo as a private citizen, not in his official duties as a Senator. It’s true that merely suggesting a commission isn’t criminal. But what he said in context to Bartiromo appears to beg for investigation as to whether it was an option being considered in furtherance of a larger plan to overthrow the election.
