The way I see things, Laura and Manny have done a lot of self reflection. They've come out on top in my opinion. Are they perfect ? Absolutely not ! however, they've come a long way from their old personas. I think this idea of '' cancel culture '' is just an unattainable goal. You can't cancel people on the internet aside from not watching or giving them any attention. I also hate how people get so uptight over people who are trying to better themselves. The fact people actually make an effort should be respected above all else. Good luck on the podcast !

When y'all talked about people wanting their perception to be right, that actually helped me a lot to open my eyes to why my partner & I fight so much. I was raised in a very abusive household where I wasn't allowed to question anything & as I've gotten older it's so, so important to me to learn how to do critical thinking (I still have a problem believing things I'm told & make a point to listen to as many opposing opinions as I can if I believe something to try to decide what's true or what I feel) but my partner can't be told nothing if he decides something is true & it causes so many fights! Here’s the thing about the Morphe receipt/shopping spree: I remember that clearly actually. I don’t think Laura or manny were pretending that they bought the items. But back in like 2016, I think audience members had been in the dark about gifted products and sponsorships and how these influencers were paid for product placements, etc. and the curtain was starting to be peeled back for the first time and people were hyper aware and over accusatory.

Omg, so much of what you both were saying about being "cancelled" resonated so strongly with me. I had been accused of things I didn't do or say and it was hard to prove my innocence without someone to vouch for me and my character. Being "cancelled" is hard! But what I try to tell people is that: "accused does not automatically mean guilty". And you're right that people will say horrible things about you in an attempt to degrade you, put you down, and make you look bad. But what those people forget is while they're busy doing that, they're not paying attention to how their actions look to everyone else around them. It actually makes them look worse! My accusers can bash me to filth, slam my name into the ground and verbally destroy me and I will still stand strong in my truth with my head held high and my mouth shut and my thoughts and feelings kept to myself because I know how I would look in everyone else's eyes if I were to do the same and I refuse to give them that satisfaction! I am so VERY proud of you both for standing strong in your truths and for not giving people the satisfaction!! Love you guys bunches!!

I would imagine the type of cancellation you experienced was worse. They had a lot of people they didn’t know speculate on the type of people they are, but they had their close friends and family telling them they’re not bad people they just made mistakes. For you to have people in your every day life believe you did this bad thing you didn’t do has to really hurt. And to not be able to prove your accuser wrong makes it worse! It’s not a competition and I’m glad you felt comforted by their words, but it seems like you were in a really tough situation that sounded like it would hurt more just on a personal level so I hope you’re doing better now.

Absolutely!!! While shame does not promote growth the way Chrissy handled the whole thing was awful. She continued to post her normal happy life on social media and didn't seem at all affected by her comments. We all change. And Chrissy must have been in a bad place to say those things. I say that because only people who are insecure and unhappy lash out onto others. Is that an excuse? Absolutely NOT. I wish people would "cancel" privately. Like maybe step back from supporting financially and give them a chance to do better without it becoming a new trauma for them.

I will say I’ve seen tremendous growth on both of Laura’s and manny’s parts and it’s great to see. I never really watched manny before or after he got popular but I remember Laura when she had 30k subs and it was hard to watch someone I thought was initially so authentic and sweet get caught up in this cliquey, shallow, and arrogant beautyguru space . I became highly disinterested in her during that time. I totally understand it’s apart of growth and how it can be easy to get lost in the sauce of being new to success and clout. Jeffree seems to have been troubled for a long time. I don't think he's a bad person, I just think he's made some not so good decisions. He came from a bad place to begin with and I think he was still trying to navigate through his life as he grew up. I didn't keep up with the drama but everyone played a part and I don't think being cancelled is a bad thing, people should definitely be held accountable when they don't do something in the best taste. Everyone grows, everyone changes, and everyone deserves forgiveness (to an extent and I'm sure we can distinguish as adults that difference). Side note: I think these people should be able to come clean and sit down as adults together and discuss what happened so that their audience don't spread false rumors. That seems like the mature thing to do, and that's how these drama situations die down faster. People feed into drama because they have nothing better to do, and then make their own perception apart from the facts.

TW: David dobrik and SA I’m really enjoying this so far! Especially when y’all talked about the difference of cancel culture and accountability culture. At one point you talked about why people feel the need to constantly call people out. For myself, I think it’s important to do so if it’s someone you have consistently supported and uplifted. Personally I was a fan of David dobrik for a long time so when it came out that he organized and profited off of someone’s SA and then covered it up, I felt responsible for calling out those actions since I had supported him so much up until that point. Especially in this case since he has since retracted his apology and continues to promote the same dangerous activity in his videos and so I feel it nessariy to remind ppl (esp since his fan base is young) about the hurt he has caused and not taken the accountability like others (ex Laura and manny). I know this isn’t everyone’s intentions when calling people out but I do think it is the case for a lot of KZbin fans who don’t want to see people who can’t take accountability apart of the community.

Honestly what a great podcast! I kind of started growing tired of the beauty community because of all the drama surrounding it and stopped watching beauty content in general, but recently I re-discovered Manny on IG and got curious about this podcast through his stories. IMO, that's never going to happen. Too many lawyers involved. A few of those people (that you noticed they skillfully neglected to mention) will send their legal team against anyone that speaks about them. I won't name them here, but you know who I mean. This is so crazy I literally just watched a motivational speaker yesterday and she said verbatim someone's perception of you is none of your business and it's nothing you should be concerned with. You cannot change the way someone perceives you and that's okay as long as your secure with who you are as a person and you know that you're doing everything you can to put your best foot forward every single day. And those words struck something within me that I can't even explain. It made me emotional because it made me realize that the only thing I need to care about is how I perceive myself and that I need to just worry about me, my son, my family, and putting my best foot forward for myself and for them to make sure that we have the best quality of life. Just thought it was so crazy and ironic that the next day I hear those same words pretty much on this podcast.
