I think it's mostly the attitude toward KZbin in general has changed. It started as a platform where you watched "friends" do and talk about things to you and then became a career path, and that transition for subscribers was much slower than it was for the people in those career. As parasocial relationships on the platform have been more exposed for what they are, the more people watching realize that it's a job and that doing things like social climbing, pushing sponsorships, discount codes are all necessary for their success. I think at the time a lot of people weren't as happy realizing they were just a paycheck in the grand scheme of things, so seeing that behavior with real life relationships was even more off-putting. Now in retrospect we realize absolutely how ridiculous it was to criticize, but that's because it got so much worse. We've just been so desensitized since then that we don't have the energy for anything but apathy because it feel like a never ending cycle we can't stop.

I study politics and ignoring scandals till they go away isn't a theory. Its a general rule. But jts important to take accountability for ur actions and apologize to those u hurt
@Moonlitwatersofaqua3 жыл бұрын
@@doeeyes2 Politics is where morality goes to die. Sometimes politicians do apologize. But its only when not apologizing is more damaging than just not drawing attention to yourself. There are numerous incidents where people have apologized to a minor mistake, or more accurately, a mistake that wasn't public knowledge to everyone, and all it did was draw more attention to the mistake and that bad press becomes more damaging than just ignoring it. So as a rule people don't apologize. This sort of apathy is ultimately where I think cancel culture comes from. People make a big fuss nowadays in order to ensure public figures can't just ignore something till it goes away. And it comes with mixed results.
@lotsofuwuenergy39832 жыл бұрын
@@Moonlitwatersofaqua I like the acknowledgment of where cancel culture is coming from-- after decades (honestly you can make an argument to say centuries) of powerful people brushing things under the rug or simply ignoring the general public inquiring about behavior they find concerning, it's inevitable that once the general public has the strongest megaphone in the history of humanity (social media) that it's used to try holding the rich and powerful elite accountable.

I was a manager at Ulta when this all went down and I remember reading the email about Laura’s brand being pulled before it even officially launched and their statement. I didn’t totally disagree with that happening to be honest, I unsubbed from her channel back then and never re subbed. What I didn’t understand was why Ulta did that but then went on to have Jeffree Star/ Morphe products even though he had racism in his past too, and they also stocked things from Manny x Morphe. So they really just picked one scape goat from the scandal and that was weird to me. Then don’t even get me started on James Charles, they still have his products for sale (even if they are 40% off) lol

@@washambiswimp714 yes I agree and actually I totally forgot about Nikita , whos collab with a Morphe who is also still being sold at Ulta. Because at the end of the day, no company actually cares about its customers. They care about making money (which is why they exist). Most of the public didn’t view Jeffree in a negative light at all. Manny’s collab came after the drama settled down. It’s also possible Ulta had some sort of contract with Morphe since it was already in store when the drama took place. It absolutely amazes me how people think companies actually care about them and get mad at companies for “just taking action because their bottom line is hurting.” Of course they’re going to. Jeffree could have literally murdered someone, but if the public didn’t care, Ulta would keep his product on the shelf.

Imma be completely honest. I said this during Dramagedon 1, and I'll say it now. Gabriel manipulated the whole situation to put full blame on Manny Mua, and he was brilliant about it. Gabriel came out unscathed because he threw Manny under the bus completely. And while I understand he might've deserved it, people also fail to see that Gabriel was just as much a social climber as Manny. Think about it, out of everyone, Manny was the one who had the least dirt brought out against him. A video of him potentially being rude to a fan is not as bad as a racist tweet from Laura or Gabriel. So, Gabriel twisted the narrative and gave people reason to hate Manny so the attention wouldn't fall on him. He gave the people what they wanted, and honestly, that just speaks badly about him as a person. He was willing to throw someone he claimed to be his friend under the bus over a situation he created. He masked his response like he was taking full accountability, but if you rewatch his video, he always adds a "but." And then, on top of that, he openly admits to lying to his fans about a friendship he created to boast his platform. How anyone trusted him after that video still blows my mind.

It gets overlooked because the information didn't come out until much later, and I don't have the receipts but I'm sure you can find it on twitter. Thomas Halbert later on accused Jeffree Star of frequently saying the n word along with other racist behavior and immediately after that, we found out that at the time that Gabriel Zamora posted that photo, Thomas Halbert was hanging out with Jeffree and messaging Manny about things that Jeffree had to say about them, sort of playing both sides. And I genuine think that contributed to this situation because when this all went down, Manny had someone in his ear talking trash about Jeffree. He done a collab with Gabrielle Z Who just a month ago defended James against sending nudes to minors … that he admitted too … We are the company we keep. I will give Manny credit for slowly building his reputation back but he is gunna ruin it again while being friends with James. It makes me lean more towards him NOT fully learning, not completely.

I can tell you why: connections. Just how Smokey mentioned, many influencers will collab or rub hands just to boost their views/business. Regardless if they’re actually friends or not then when there’s heat they’ll flee/unfollow/be silent. It’s sad

I think that Manny became friends with James to get back at Jeffrey, after the Tati incident. They both hated Jeffrey.

Was still friends and colabing with Laura Lee as of last year (might still be? I've stopped following this stuff except thru people like Smokey Glow). People talk about Manny being cancelled for social climbing, and that might be true, but people ought to pay more attention to who he promotes and befriends. As you said, "the company we keep."

@@db200508 James admitted to sending them to 2 kids that were around 16 and then took down the video where he admitted to it. If you search KZbin you can find it reuploaded I’m sure.

At twelve ish minutes: the impression of Jeffree that I got in 2017 even was that he was the kind of person who was very friendly to start, gets you to lower your guard and then gets you to spill tea or talk shit about something personal so that he can have it on you later. That’s why I think no one talks about why the friendships with him end is because they know he could say something too personal. That’s how I felt when all this went down.

he has been doing this since the myspace days. become besties with the famous scene queens & musicians, gathers dirt on them, then when they surpass him in fame he tries to destroy their reputations. he's a menace and a snake

Misogyny played a huge role in a lot of them it seems. It is sad that women are still allowing this to happen.

@@C_And_P blaming women for misogyny? lol?
@C_And_P3 жыл бұрын
@@kirstene9131 Men and women participate in misogyny against women; that's too many people. Expecting a majority of men to support women vs the men in a situation like this is as mythical as a unicorn. However, expecting a majority of women to either drag the men like they drag the women or support other women in a situation like this instead of dragging their own gender/sex down is do-able. When a vast amount of women come together, they make progress. The numbers are important as you can see from this video. It is granted that most men will support men. But most women should be supporting other women or at least dragging troubled men the same manner everyone is dragging the women. This is the hard truth and this circumstance happens outside of just beauty influencers. It is tragic. Whether you are blinded to this fact or not, is not my issue. The video speaks for itself. That is all I needed to say as I wanted to elaborate. Have a good day.
@kirstene91313 жыл бұрын
@@C_And_P i understand and agree with the first half of your comment, but laura was literally racist. with misogyny, you do have to realize that black people, especially women, arent going to want to support a white woman who was blatantly racist towards them. feminism and being able to be liberated from the patriarchy is intersectional and is simply more than just women needing the numbers to “support” each other.

Jeffree Star has always struck me as a bully. Like I took one look at him and I got power hungry vibes from him. The fact anytime he made a friend, he would screen shot conversations, record audios, record videos, and let them know what he owned. Really made me realize he was toxic, no sane person does that. That is how I knew he would say things just to get an emotional reaction out of people. Like that is so vengeful. Who would do that
