I totally understand what you mean, Beau. I taught adult literacy in the jail for years, and one evening, I found my self lost in one of the neighborhoods you describe. One of the guys, said, "Hey! That's Mizz "D" and she got Lonnie Bear his GRE!" The next thing that I knew, they had my tire changed and me on my way after having a lively conversation, and multiple handshakes. Point is, the gangs usually know who the civilians are, and they certainly know who the good ones are. It turns out, I had actually taught more than one of the men in that gathering. It is so true! What goes around comes around, so I try every day to make one good deed. Just a thought.

What a load of rubbish. What did the gang members say after changing your tire? “We also checked your gas level and cleaned your windows”. Anecdotal stories don’t mean much. For every story like yours there’s 99 horrible stories. Sorry, I’ve worked in those neighborhoods and it’s fantasyland if you think that’s a common occurrence. “Gangs know who the good ones are,” Is the most insane thing I’ve ever read, what does that even mean? I just hope Lonnie Bear has do something good with his GRE.

@@saltynutsman1 I grew up in those neighborhoods and yes they have their problems. Walking the streets at night is scary but there are more decent people than there are bad people. You would be surprised how they want people to succeed. The leader of one of the gangs came and sat with me one day when I was sitting on the front porch letting my child play. He told me I never have to worry about going to the bus stop in the middle of the night because they watch me and make sure I get there safe. I won't see them but they see me. I was always scared walking to the bus stop at night and it was always uneventful. Then he told me, to do well, excel and then leave that neighborhood. I don't like the negative things that happen there but it has its positives, even with the gangbangers. He's right. Going into what one might consider a "good neighborhood" can be just as scary especially for a person of color. People immediately believe the worse of you. Shoot you before you have a chance, call the police and they unnecessarily escalate the situation. It's not rubbish if someone has a positive experience which dispels some of the negative myths.

Maggie D ....look, I agree with you. The majority of folks are good. I feel for the good people that do live in those neighborhoods. I've had experiences like this myself. I'm a recovering heroin addict, and I used to go into rough neighborhoods like that to buy dope. One night I got a flat tire, so I pulled into the parking lot of a mom and pop food mart and liquor store, and there was a group of guys standing outside with plastic cups drinking, and smoking weed wearing gang colors. As soon as they saw I the tire was flat two of them walked over, and asked if I needed any help. I told them I could manage, and thanked them, and they said to just let them know if I needed anything. It turned out my jack was broken, so I walked over, and asked if any of them had a jack, or knew anyone that had one. One guy took his phone out, called his brother that lived down the street, to ask if he was home. We walked down to his brother's house together, just smoking cigs, and talking about the Tamir Rice shooting that had just happened because he asked me what I thought, and felt as a white dude, whenever shit like that happened, and I explained to him how angry I get, and how much I hate the police, and the power structure within our society. Then we talked about how to wake other white folks who don't interact with black folks like him, only black folks who live in their upper middle class suburbs, up to the reality of the situation. We had a damn good talk, we got the jack, went back to my car, and when we got it jacked, and got all the lug nuts off, the tire wouldn't come off because it was rusted in place, so the rest of the guys came over, and we beat on it to knock rust off, and pushed and pulled on it for 30 minutes. Finally this guy that was easily 7ft tall, and built like a body builder got the tire off, and I put the new one on, tightened it down, and dropped the car. We drove the jack back to LaDavid's brother, and I took him back to the spot, and said thank you to all of them, and they didn't ask for anything in return. So I asked them what they drank, went into the liquor store, got us all some drinks, and since I got the drinks the big dude pulled out a blunt for us to smoke on, and we drank, and passed the blunt for an hour before I finally went home. It was a good night. All these white folks who are so afraid of black folks need to meet them, and that's what I said when we were talking, that some folks are just unrepentant racists, and Idk how to help them, but most are more scared than actually racist, and they don't believe black folks are inferior, but they do believe the propaganda, and the way folks like those guys are portrayed in mass media, and the only way to fix that is to give them a counter narrative, and get them to actually meet the "scary" black folks. I told them that all the white folks I know were gonna hear about how a group of gang bangers helped me change a flat, and didn't ask for anything in return, and when I bought them drinks for their help, they shared their weed with me, because they weren't helping for selfish reasons, they were helping because they're just decent guys who saw someone in need, and had the means to do something about it. They put rule 303 in action. I don't condone gang activity, but I do know that just because someone is in a gang, that does not make them a bad person. That's the scary thing about most of the bad things that are done, they aren't always done by bad people, many are done by good people in bad situations. White folks have a lot to learn from black folks, and they way they actually form communities, know their neighbors, and look out for them. The heroes in that story are the gang bangers who were looking out for their community. The white man screaming "you loot, we shoot" with his shotgun in hand is the villain. I've gotten a flat in a gated community as well, leaving my ex gf's house after she went to work, and no one even offered to help, they just went on about their business like I wasn't even there... until the woman who works security for that gated community pulled up in her car, and asked if I needed help, and offered to have one of the guards come help me with it. The rich fucks don't care about service to others, they're out for themselves. The poor guys in the ghetto, they'll look out for you, and help you out, and that is the truth. There's a lot those wealthy white folks who expect the government to fix everything could learn from those poor black folks who do it for themselves, and their neighbors because they know they can't count on the government with its institutionalized racism. I long for the day our society is truly integrated, and there is no government, only each community working together, and looking out for each other. Fuck racism, and fuck the state. Unity, and structured anarchy for the win!

My wife & I discovered this while doing food drives in our town. We would drop leaflets at all the houses in a neighborhood stating we would be back next week to pick up food for our food pantry to feed the needy. We noticed that we got the best response in low to middle income neighborhoods, the well to do homes would usually not respond or if they did it was minimal. The poor among us know what it is to be hungry and not able to buy food so if they could help, they did so generously even though they did not have the means that others more well off had.

This is my church with you, sir. And here is my take away from this service: I see the mayor of my town from time to time because I am a civil servant. He came from an impoverished area of the town he now serves. I see him trying to come up with ways to help. From the white community he serves, he gets labeled as giving a free ride to too many people. From the non-white community he serves he gets labeled as giving in to the white folk. (He is African American) But he knows the people in his community. So, the next time I see him, I’m going to say “Mr. Mayor...do you have a second for me to ask a question?” to which he will reply Yes, because he always does, even though it’s usually “why isn’t this being done” and “why did you do this”. But I will ask “How can I help?” I’m sure he has a hundred answers for this because there is so much. Once I get going on one of the suggestions, I’ll try to bring along a neice or a nephew, since I don’t have children of my own. Anyway, it’s a start.

I remember, I was 11 years old and my best friend was 10. He stayed in a lower class neighborhood, and he and I both had machetes and axes. After a big hurricane came through, he and I went house to house to chop up trees and bring them out to the road to get cleared away. We did it to make a little bit of money, like 5 bucks a house and it took 4-5 hours to clear it out. Some people couldn't even afford the 5 bucks and we did it anyway. We just wanted to help, and we didn't mind the hard work it took. I remember he and I chopping at dense cherry wood, it took hours just to get through about 10 inches of wood with our dull ass machetes. Families got together to cook on the grill because no one had power. I'd take the group of guys who look like bad people yet they know exactly what their neighbors need over anyone who decides that they can shoot first and ask questions later, despite their next door neighbors are in desperate need of food and water. It's sad that our country has been completely overwhelmed with fear....if they only knew how much fear contributed to every dictatorship in all of history. We don't have to try to be mayberry, but we can at least help our brethren.

I never dawned on me that I was in danger. Gadsen county is majority colored. I can't understand that mindset. Hunker down with your gun, man there are people that can'tget to the grocery store , that don't have water, need gas for their generators. I was pumping gas out of my grouper boat and giving it away cause you couldn't buy gas and I knew old people who needed gas for their generators. Being a hero has got nothing to do with killing . It's about helping people that need help. Being a leader is about not feeling fear but feeling love for people that you can help. The problem with American though is it's all about self agrandisement. No doubt that guy would have shot someone over a TV set. Someone can't work the printer, they'll jump up and show them how it's done. I'm setting up a display and moving around some furniture, one of the guys is bound to grab the other end and ask me where I want it. And so on. We are also near a pretty affluent neighborhood. So there are a lot of doctors and lawyers coming in to pick up the latest John Grisham. And the yoga moms taking their kids to story time. Among that crowd there's lots of huffing and eye-rolling if I take more than 2 minutes to cater to them because someone else is ahead of them in line. The moms are too busy chattering with each other to reign in their nightmare children. And the worst is the creepy white dudes who specialize in "compliments" that make your skin crawl. You know this reminds me of a few years back. Over here in Britain we had a "bad winter". A fair amount of snow (we used to get a lot more, but we are less able to deal with it now because it's less frequent) but in rural areas, and especially v. hilly areas like mine, it could cut whole villages off for up to a month. Now the thing about British winters is that they aren't as cold as, say, winters in Moscow or Toronto. But they are bitterly, bitterly cold due to the humidity. In my village the local gangs of chavs (they get called shiftless teenagers - no hopers and so on) were, completely off their own back, walking to the nearest town in their tracksuits (families couldn't afford actual winter clothing) in groups, picking up literally as much bottled water, blankets, cabbages and the like as they could, and delivering it to homes with young children or elderly people. Normally these kids spend their time shooting buses with paintball guns, or happy-slapping goths and gays. But that winter they decided that, seeing as the gas and electric had failed, and the water pipes were frozen, that they'd stop being idiots. And they did a splendid job. Your story about those gang-bangers reminded me of that. Meanwhile all the main relief efforts were going to the much more affluent town about 15 miles south of us, which still had workable transport links and energy.

I just realized this myself... I've lived in the rural parts of my state my whole life. My one work friend invited me to a daytime gig in the city... And I was so needlessly terrified! I saw a cracked sidewalk and thought "I'M GOING TO GET MUGGED HERE", but it was daytime, and there were even some kids playing around in a little side yard. I don't know why I was so afraid of the inner city. Would I walk around alone at night? Probably not. But there's no need to have so much fear that you avoid it like the Plague. And the concert was great! I love the city!

Well, it goes both ways really. I'm from Chicago, white, used to walk by one of the housing projects in the middle of the night to get home on weekends, and I was never afraid. But whenever I'm in a small town surrounded by pickup trucks and guys with John Deere hats I get nervous.

I lived in PC for 9 years of my life. Graduated from Mosley High School in 94. Two things brother. 1. That Panama City) was the one places that I felt a loving sense of community and extended family. 25+ years later, I’m still close with almost every family in town. Bay County loves each other for life. 2. A known secret about the black community, white people are safer in the “hood” than the black folk that live there. Why you may ask? It’s because the “hood” knows how hard law enforcement would come down on us if a white person from outside our community got hurt. So we don’t bother them unless someone comes in hostile and/or disrespectful. Love your content bro. You’re one of my favorite subs. Foot note, I’m originally from Chicago, and I can tell you there are NO gangs in Panama City...lol. They are not versed in that culture like Chicago or LA. But you are telling everyone right, don’t believe all stereotypes.

Your censor's getting life if he keeps hitting the torture button on you. Also, Military guys can take 4 points to change the program that gives them orders over the speakers. You can take 4 points to disobey move orders 4 times, and the 5th time and beyond that you disobey, you don't get tortured. Up there, they get people to disobey food orders 4 times, so they can eat whatever they want. This makes taking 4 weeks of torture so much easier, since the torture is much less when you have less poison in your system. Find My Google plus link in my about section or my twitter link in my about section for more info on foods that get the poison out. They also recommend Military guys take 4 points to disobey stop orders, and taking 4 to disobey move orders. Taking down the torture for disobeying move and stop orders helps with making it possible for you to fight in the end when the bombs drop in 2 and a half years. The hacked weirdos (hacks) will be doing all kinds of crazy things. I'm hearing most of them have AR's with bump stocks in boxes under their beds, or will be getting bump stocks, and that those will remain legal, even after the Las Vegas shooting.

Came to this today May 24, 2021 after following a link from your post today Beau. I am an old white social worker for 42 yrs now & still working...this time with Veterans at a VA. My intentional first nonpaid helping was in a medical/dental/counseling clinic deep in the tough neighorhoods & did home visits every day too...helping people get what they need. Then later tough teens involved with gangs & much more. My calling has included working all the way to the richest multimillionaires (addiction). Still ended up living most of my adult life in the diverse neighborhoods. Its where I always felt more at home & also had my own toughness for those moments when my skin crawled & navigated my way safely & some grace & luck too. :)

Your videos remind me constantly that in spite of the difficulties we are facing as a nation, there is still a strong measure of character in us as a people, and I am hopeful for our future. Fear is among the greatest of destructive forces that we will ever face. While intangible, its affect is most certainly very real, and far reaching. Yet, if we are able to hold onto our center in the face of it, we have the potential to grow beyond our limits. Greatness is absolutely within our reach then. Be well.

I'm just saddened to say that the message you have to share is simply going to fall on deaf ears; don't let that deter you from putting your words of wisdom out there, because it is reaching enough people to make a difference. A little while ago a high wind came through the neighborhood and downed a few trees. Nothing serious like a hurricane but the tree that went down on my block took out a stop sign. My wife and I have lived here for 20 years and although we have no children plenty of folks do and the stop signs are life savers. The tree cane down in front of a rental property. The tenants called the property manager who sent a service to clear the sidewalk - which is all the PM was legally responsible to do. The tree that was half blocking the street - well that’s the city’s problem. I took my rinky-dink electric chainsaw and began work on the smaller limbs. Within 30 min a passerby with the real deal came out and within 90 min we had the big stuff cleared and within 60 min I had swept the street and alerted the city to the downed sign. The renters were young and had no tools. I say this not to solicit praise. I think we learn to help by watching others. If someone shows us how to be neighbors the lesson may stick and the next time they will be the ones in the street. Just a thought. Thanks Beau.

I love your attitude of service. I really do. One bone to pick at the very end. "If government could help...' Government CAN help, but government's ability TO help has been broken with our consent because too many of us have bought into the notion that government SHOULDN'T help because that would be socialism. I know the two things aren't the same, but to too many people they are the same. In my life time I have seen the difference between the responses toward everything from hurricanes to tornado relief/rescue, and flood relief/rescue. When I was kid it wasn't perfect, but lives were saved, and communities rebuilt with government help. yest federal government help, because we as a NATION felt a moral obligation to help our all sections of our nation when disaster struck. Now we have many more lives lost and communities stay devastated for much longer. And those who WANT government to fail (because 'relief=socialism' in their minds) point to the failures as proof that what they broke never worked in the first place. Somehow we have to stop this cycle.

Excellent video. At the end of the day, when things go south, you are on your own. Don't count on your local officials, count on yourself.
@nikolademitri7316 жыл бұрын
MrTyDa I agree that we need to be self sufficient, but the one thing I’d add is that we need to strengthen our communities so that it’s not just, “rely on yourself”, but that it’s also, “rely on each other”.. That’s something that’s missing from far too many communities, especially in this day and age, and it’s very sad imo.. Humans are a social species, and for most of our existence we existed as members of hunter-gatherer tribes, and everyone had a role that was suited to them, and worked together as individuals to be stronger as a whole. Hell, I’m only in my 30s, but even when I was a little kid, it seemed like we were still somewhat like that; I know my grandmother’s generation was definitely like that.. We need to get back to it imo. ✌🏼
@brandonjanssen19816 жыл бұрын
I agree with you both but, we also, need to get the international community back on track.....I'm all for local communities and local governments working together in disaster situations but it has scaled up and we need to keep working as human beings on the planet as well
@nikolademitri7316 жыл бұрын
Brandon Janssen No doubt. As far as I’m concerned the #1 most important issue that humanity faces right now is the threat of ecological collapse. In order to avoid this, it will absolutely take the global community coming together to take steps to heavily restructure the way we produce energy, the way we farm, etc. Either the global community works together on this, which is in literally everyone’s best interest, or we ignore the problem, and end up in severe global conflict in a couple decades.. possibly civilization ending conflict.. ✌🏼
@MrTyDa6 жыл бұрын
Well, I should have clarified because that was where I was going with it. If you can be self reliant and have a community who thinks as you do, when there is a SHTF situation you can all pull together and handle it yourselves. At the end of the day, it's us who have to pull through and there shouldn't be any or very few be weak links.
