Yes you are 100% correct and is incredibly dangerous for people like me and Mtashed (not sure he also has the same diagnosis as he mentioned that he's taking medication) that have ADHD. Unlike neurotypicals, we hyperfocus on things that interest us and these gacha games provide so much dopamine similar to gambling that it hooks us in and we grind through them like crazy and when the dopamine starts to die down we lose interest and find something else to do. You might think that this is common and is a personal problem but it really isn't, it's a legitimate mental condition that is jeopardizing we opt to finding extremely horrible solutions such as overspending, loaning to whale, some would steal credit cards as you've seen on news. As Mtashed has mentioned, he takes medication and it's what is probably hindering him from doing something he would later regret because the meds control these symptoms. I just hope Mtashed is able to find what he really wants to do because I know how difficult it is.

@Maloooon

That doesn't always have to be true. There are CC that are just really good at a single game and people watch them for that. So it's possible to be successful in that way. The problem with that is that if the game die and you don't have a good personality your channel will die as well. That's why many CC rather play multiple games (plus it of course gives all those free extra views at release). But you need that good personality for it.

Also wanted to say, a rotation of 5-8 different roguelikes felt fulfilling coming out of my genshin phase, I bought a ton of games over the course of like 8 months and they were slay the spire, ror2, skul the hero slayer (this game is pretty long now considering the dark mirror which has 9 difficulties after the main game), dead cells, dungreed, hades, darkest dungeon, binding of Isaac (I personally dislike this game), hades 2 loop hero, luck be a landlord (imo the updates ruined this game for me, endgame doesn’t give a dopamine rush anymore), peglin, dead estate(games kinda mid). You say that as if those CCs were wrong. In 1.0 there are 2 refreshable end-game in WuWa. 3 if you consider the holograms, but I don't. Also add the fact that you can farm echoes. You want NEW things, new games, new experiences after all. And that's what makes you excited, the "unknown" of things. People who play the same game over and over, i actually kind of envy them.. I wish i could do that, but i'm not built like that as you are saying aswell. I'm just not having fun usually after a month or two and thats fine. It's makes it better to focus on IRL stuff too though when i burn out so quickly so i guess it's good in that aspect. I'm 100% backing you on the whole gacha game vibe. Everything you're feeling is how I feel around games now, I just jump into wuthering waves here and there now and just focus on jumping on a few times a week now. FG did a similar thing jumping into new games and it was a good idea and that's what I usually do and I think you'd kill at doing something like that.

I recall when Genshin Impact was first introduced, around 3 years ago. You shared that the game had a profound impact on your life. You began creating KZbin guides, openly expressing your thoughts and enthusiasm for the game. Since then, I've subscribed to your channel and have enjoyed every new GI video until WuWa. There are many content creators out there, including those who produce guides in my native language, often in Chinese. Yet, I've chosen to follow your content because of your unique style, which makes you stand out from the rest.

A lot of it is the impulsive “high” that gets generated with new games. This follows the same dependence/tolerance that substance use has. Always important in that sense to look for signs of gaming addiction. Lootbox and gacha games also have the added potential to lower self worth when “rewards” dont meet expectations

There is this thought - most of this has everything to do with understanding of The Cycle for such games. Release, first patches - all this usually either goes either very good or very bad, but after doing it for a while (not even as a job) one got to realize how that works for this game - for every game. From Destiny 2 seasonal content, to FF14 formulistic patches, to any gacha new characters/modes/whatever. It works even for the good ones. Nothing can erase this understanding now, it gnaws at every desire to be exited for anything that partake in "The Cycle". There are new games constantly, but the excitement from their release can happen only once. Turning game into a work when your work is playing games is... ah... hard thing to... ugh... organize? juggle? arrange? keep up? anchor? balance? I wish you best.

I'd switch it up regularly if I was in a similar position simply because what's new and what's trending is what people search for, when 1.1 wuwa drops, ppl will be searching for that, when ZZZ drops, people will be on that shit instantly, if you have videos going up covering all of the current trends, people will constantly flock to your channel. I truly hope you succeed man because I've watched you since Destiny and you've always been the most entertaining CC to me and probably many others. Best of luck king.

This is something that I've experienced. The moment I feel like the dopamine is doing down, feeling like the game is just on repeat even with updates. It was a hard decision to quit and take a break because you also wanna play the game still but you cant just ignore that dreadful feeling for the long term. So I made the hard decision to quit and it helped me relax and not be unhealthily attached to a game that I like but feel like a chore. After a few years or so, Wuthering Waves came and I started enjoying playing again and I dont have that feeling of dopamine going down easily and fast anymore. I'll probably feel the tiredness again but I know it will take a long time before I feel it again.

But long time players know how these cycles feels and feel less. That's why new ones are so high, It's all new and everything feels reawarding .

I wanted to write a comment like "no matter how late you release the content - since I'm interested in YOUR opinion, I will always watch it". This is ofc still true. But I think the way you've described your cycle with Gatcha games and how you treat them like a rogue-like is exactly the kind of content I've been looking for! Specifically, I want a creator (that I trust) to check out all these new gatcha games for me. I want to watch the full playthrough of the whole initial experience during the initial 5 something hours of the game. And I would like them to give me an honest and comprehensive review after like a month of playing as well - about all the facets of the game, and how they compare with other games - so I know what to give a shot or what might be for me. Importantly, they DO NOT have to be new games or the creator themselves do not have to have the first experience with the game. I would, for example, watch the whole intial 5 to 10 hour journey of Mtashed playing HSR just as I would for ZZZ, or any other gatcha game that has existed and Mtashed himself has or hasn't played. Mtashed, if you're reading this - I am aware that just cause one guy may be into a channel trying out new stuff doesn't mean it's going to be for the majority or even a lot of people - and it may not be a viable option for the channel - but I think your channel being a source of the "first month documented experience" for gatcha games (or other games too I guess) would be something I'm personally very interested to see.

the best part of these games is the first week of an patch update, there will come a day where mihoyo alone will release 6 gacha games that will be timed perfectly to there major patch updates with in a week from each other, so the 6 weeks wait that we get between genshin updates will not even feel that bad cause there will be a new patch of a game to play every week. It doesnt even have to be gacha games just cover 6 games that update within a week from each other like, week 1 is Genshin, week 2 is HSR, week 3 is Destiny, week 4 is ?elden ring? (pick a game it doesnt matter) week 5 is ZZZ week 6 is Wuwa.

Well, maybe a way to keep enjoying what's enjoyable about gacha games and help people is precisely by taking it easy, show people that they do not need to rush things. I think CCs and the need to grind to not miss the train give regular players the sense that they have to rush things too and that can have a negative effects in their lifes.

I feel like his main problem is that he is a gameplay focus guy who loves the grindy aspects, but gachas are a genre of games that do a different type of grind that unfortunately doesn't fit his style and that is these games reward players who stay long term AND aren't able to play for more than 15 mins a day. Gacha games are super popular in the east cause they are playable while most people are going to work, school or are having a lunch break, quick login and your done with the grind for the day (If you know anything about thier work culture then you'll understand why the games are so darn popular and profitable); extra content to do if you are into the story and don't skip. A huge selling point as well for a lot of these games is the character design so if you're not into that than you're kind of left with nothing. I doubt any gacha game in the near future can fullfill what Mtash wants cause he is simply not the target demographic for them and not just him but CCs in general. The genre just doesn't allow for many videos to exist for it cause once that first week after the new patch is done the remaining 4 weeks are just the daily grind with not much to say. I do hope you find the next big game that does fullfill your wants, but searching for it in the gacha space is near impossible. The best thing you could do as a CC is literally just rotate between the games you genuinely like so that way the dead space is reduced from 4 weeks to maybe 2 weeks. Best of luck though and always prioritize your family and health.

Okay, so here's the thing. These are GAMES. PIXELS ON A SCREEN. Playing them should be FUN for us. Not a mental health scene. The day Mtashed Cried for Genshin was the day I understood this and I stopped giving these games more importance than I was giving them then. So. About @mtashed I feel you're finding a place of stability on how to manage your work, which is covering games among the business bit, and having Fun. Good stuff. It is a journey for all of us. Me, when I got a job this April, I don't get as much time to play games as I did before this. And what's better is, I LOVE MY JOB. So, I feel the love for your life other than games, should be balanced, no one side too heavy. Which is exactly what Tashed Man is tryna do. I appreciate you coming close to that point of stability in Life, while including us as a community. As for the guides bit, you make THE BEST GUIDES IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY. PERIOD. But, now that someone has said it, and you have found the path of making guides and hopping off, please, make sure you keep the consistency of Making those guides to the best of your ability, Tashed man. This is the first part, the second is, in a game if you find some cool stuff while making those guides, cover it, leave the uninteresting stuff. It's cool. No pressure, that way you keep having fun, while making guides. The guides, are a product of your job, discipline. Finding other interesting things, are a product of well, fun. Now for the dopamine, if you would be so kind to try this pattern, you won't need a dopamine rush. It will be stable, and you'll find new stuff occasionally that makes you get the dopamine hit. It will add to your fun. Wishing you good health, wishing your fam and cats good health mate. We love you. Love from India.🦭❤️
