He called the company man dumb, a Carlton, uncle ruckus and other things. No sir. As a white person, that’s so disrespectful

I’ve been following Justin Hunte since his HipHopDX days and when he went solo as The Company Man in 2017. I’ve NEVER seen him remotely upset until his breakdown of What’s The Dirt’s recent Family Matters vid. I think fellow hip hop journalist Curtiss King might have a bone to pick with WTD too. Calling Justin Hunte a Carlton is crazy! Dude’s from Newark and was born in the Deep South. That’s the least Carlton narrative ever. We are cursed yet again with tolerating a tone deaf Canadian as if Drake wasn’t enough. Professor Skye is legit, WTD ain’t it.

Someday, people will learn not to challenge the Blackness of Black nerds. But that day won't be anytime soon.

Especially Justin man. Who’s been entrenched in this culture for decades. He’s one of the founding fathers of this hip hop journalism and media analysis thing.

Whats the dirt took a beat Posted a snippet Got massive backlash Took another beat And eventually decided who is audience is going to be. He chose what he chose and sadly, nowadays, that probably means he is going to have a large platform from now on and will milk as much from the beef as possible. We still have until the superbowl and a little after that for the Kendrick content to be popping. So strap up everybody. A lot of shenanigans coming!

Damn I haven't gotten around to WTD's Family Matters vid and now I see this 🤦♂️ Is it so hard for white people to just not do this stuff?? 😭

You don’t disrespect Justin Hunte and get away with it in this space. He must not know who he is because his KZbin is relatively new when compared to his long career doing this. He’s a founding father in this space.
@EayuProuxmАй бұрын
WTD isn't a culture vulture BUT with this latest development he's definitely taking a few steps on that route. Disrespecting an OG in the space delivering legitimate critique? He had a choice and he doubled down. Now this controversy will probably invite the kind of audience that will incentivize him to be a culture vulture.

He also said in the Family matters breakdown that drakes trying to refer to Kendrick as carlton as well...no man i think thats just you 🤣

We don't need the industry gatekeeping "our" culture that's what Kendrick was talking about. We need to take our hip hop culture back I watched his video and was incensed. I agree with your take 100% and when people like "What's the Dirt" says stuff that's out of pocket towards one of us "we" should be the one checking him. He can't ever disrespect one of our elders and still be on the Internet ❤

He got set up by The Company Man. He did expose himself and I’m probably, finally willing to let his hype die out but The Company Man was disingenuous in his critique. He’s been overly biased for Kendrick and ran with Twitter narratives himself to make it look like WTD was being malicious in his approach, and not just… “just” out of touch with the Black experience.
@kayinessАй бұрын
I fw Justin but he did a whole vid on Drake's daughter lol. Nobody who sided with Kendrick in the beef seems capable of a meaningful critique of him so a white Canadian super hip-hop fan filled that vacuum. That's what happens. I love our culture but that being on code shit makes it impossible to breathe sometimes. WTD did his hw and put ppl onto some legit details that nobody would touch while still critiquing Drake. ppl just don't want to entertain Dot's weaknesses so they weren't prepared 🤷🏽♂️
@BigCapDaGOATАй бұрын
@@kayinessthere were plenty of legitimate critiques of Drake, just not from anybody in mainstream hip hop journalism. WTD got his talking points from another channel and put his own twist to it. Nothing he did was original or worthy of the praise everybody was pouring on him.
