Many don't like Adobe's Creative Cloud Subscription Model. You can no longer buy one of their software apps individually and must by a subscription.

@@davinp I know. Thankfully for my modest uses, there are plenty of free or cheaper alternatives. There's a very good list on github simply called ""Adobe Alternatives" that lists many of them.

I hail you for down-to-earth approach when discussing matters like these - your (presumed) Dutch forefathers would be proud of you 🙂 As to Macrium Reflect X , I had already been testing it for about a month now - and I liked it way better than the (far more expensive) Acronis /w cloud storage. So I decided to switch over to Macrium Reflect and guess what? Just as I needed to buy the license, a really great deal during the Black Friday campaign came by: 4 licenses / 1 year for EUR 50 (future payments: EUR 84). That's a future cost of EUR 21/computer per year to be covered - and given the many features I think that is a really decent price. I will look into your other videos on Macrium as well, scrouching them for any tips & settings that I may have missed so far. Anyway - thanks again for your great content, I have loved it for many years now. Keep up the good and honest work.

I respect your transparency. Been following you for years and I'm not surprised you would be conscientious about revealing the freebies you got from MR. I've also been using the free version of MR for years and it has never failed me. My biggest concern is that I will be uninformed when a future update to Windows breaks the free version. So the big question is how do users of MR Free remain informed when that eventuality occurs?
@askleonotenboomАй бұрын
I don't know of a specific way to do so. That's kinda what the free version's end of support leads to.

An image does not (and in many cases, should not) contain everything. One example, for my own backups: My digital music collection: I have a few hundred gigabytes of music files. I keep a copy of those files in three locations (my daily driver computer, my music server, and a USB drive that stays off-line). I see no reason to have my backup software make yet another copy of those music files, which will consume space and take time -- especially for doing a restore if my drive fails. For a restore, my priority is to get my computer running again. I can put the music files back, afterwards (their restoration is a low priority). When I purchased my copy of EaseUS Todo's backup software, I chose the version that includes the file exclusion option.

My complaint is, why is it so hard to find the panel for setting up recurring backups and why do you have to run a backup manually (after first installing Macrium) before you can setup recurring backups. This is just way too cumbersome.
@vince8436Ай бұрын
I manually backup everything and its super simple. I don't worry about the operating system, it is simple enough to reinstall. Data is the only backup i need.
@slartibartfast1268Ай бұрын
If you use a significant number of products besides the Microsoft default ones, you'll think otherwise. You'll have to re-install all those products, assuming you can even remember where to get them, what their license keys are, and then after re-install, configure all your settings, all over again. A tedious, painful, process.

Any good free alternatives ? I'm interested in something that works with ext4 partitions too.

Unfortunately for Macrium Reflect, the train has left the station. Quite a few very good free options available and even more importantly entire softwares for backup/clone/image is on my computer, so I am not dependant on good will of anyone anymore, including creator of software also. And there are few of very good ones for that. Thus I will never use MR again even for free, as I would not own MR a software on my PC and will be under MR dependency.
@frednitney5831Ай бұрын
My two cents: 1. I've bought lots of software and will continue to do so, but I perpetually rent NOTHING. 2. Their file formats should have been documented from day one. Bonus cent: 3. I've been using Terabyte Unlimited's products for well over a decade, and feel no urge to change.

I am not a business and I am switching to Linux. There are commands to do back up. I am happy to do it manually. And there is a free Rescuezilla that helped me restoring my 1TB hard disc in just 5 minutes from the clone I created just a couple weeks prior, after I messed up my OS. I don't need to pay anything to anyone, except for thde hardware., one-off payment at that.

Sounds like your subscription covers only 1 machine. When you start Macrium up it calls home to check licensing and it finds it installed on a different computer and as such asks you that question. Gotta love the subscription model. That's my explanation for what's going on. 🇨🇦

As a business user I'd consider them, but as a home user it's a given pass. It's also naturally okay for a software company to make this kind of pivot, like perhaps after all their customer base was already mostly business.

I am a MR customer with a version 8 perpetual license. Rental software and a subscription model is not in my interest. I have always paid for software. Nowdays it is hostageware, no subscription equals reduced functionality or no functionality at all or no internet connectivity or your application will not start. Fine. Vote with the wallet. I blame software piracy for this. Can't have nice things because of the criminal elements. That said, corporations also overreach with EULA contracts and steal or control the operation functionality or data on your computer device like Microsoft. Hostageware! Bend over and smile, you will own nothing and be happy with a frown.
