Hello everyone!
I've discussed my feelings on massive declutters and the haul/declutter cycle before, but I keep getting comments and questions so I thought I would explore the topics a little bit further!
REMEMBER!! These are my opinions. And I'm not talking about any particular person or people.
I would love to hear from you!
What do you think about massive declutters (from pro YT'ers)? Have you noticed the haul/declutter cycle? Have you ever noticed yourself doing similar?
Or were/are you more like me- a haul & hoarder?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!
Let me know if you have any other questions/comments/concerns.
Thanks so much for watching!
XOXO
ELLE

I wish people wouldn’t be so quick to declutter something just because it’s “old” (in quotes because in this case old doesn’t mean expired, just that you can’t buy it anymore) or was limited edition. There are lots of people who still have those products who want to see creators using them, and there are lots of people like me who just want to see people use and enjoy their makeup! Declutter something because you don’t love it, not because it won’t give you views.

Elle S YES! Maybe we need to make more of an effort to praise people when they do and share their videos or whatever. Positive reenforcement type things. I ask for more videos on older palettes and I usually get “I’ve already done 4 looks in one video” or something like that.

"Old" is usually less than a year too. I've seen some products get labeled as "old" after a couple months. I want to see older and limited edition palettes, I might have similar colors. I think showing older or limited edition palettes would shift focus from having to sell everything to enjoying the actual makeup.

I was happy when I had 1 foundation, 3 lipsticks, 1 blush and 2 eyeshadow palettes. What happened to me ? KZbin lol in all seriousness everything you said was spot on. Let's start using what we have and stop buying stuff we are just going to trash. If you give to family and friends great but they're probably not going to use it.

Even if you declutter to friends, family, other influencers, donation, etc, that's not a guarantee that a product will be used up before it hits the trash. You are removing self acknowledgement that it will become waste because you are "gifting" someone else that acknowledgement/guilt/responsibility, etc. (Out of sight, out of mind.) A true gift shouldn't come with that. I think giving used product to another person should be viewed like you are throwing it out.

That’s exactly how I see it! I never give things away thinking that it’s a nice gift. I let my friends pick through what I’m otherwise throwing out in case they want something. But I view it about the same as giving away my half-eaten cake when I’m full, not as a nice gift to a friend.

Anytime me and my girlfriends get together, I bring makeup that I want to get rid of because I never use it or it didn't work for me. Whatever no one wants, I offer to my niece and stepdaughter. And if no one wants it, I toss it.

Absolutely! No wonder I felt a subtle sense of guilt giving people my unloved makeup. It wasn't crap by any means and none of it was severely used. As much as I truly wanted to make them smile, deep down I knew they weren't as into it as I was and probably wouldn't feel the same excitement for a bunch of handed down makeup as I hoped they would.

Clear as mud... I’m more of a haul & hoard type of girl... Elle, you are so refreshing and I absolutely appreciate everything you’re saying. I’m more of a haul & hoard type of girl, too. And not just with my makeup- Yarn, because I knit and so many other craft items. If only I actually crafted and created with all the items I find the occasion to buy... It’s that feeling of the hope of the creation to come & yes, definitely the pleasure of unpacking those new products. I’ve built up a near Pavlovian response to hearing my mailbox open & close. I love makeup and I’m of an older generation- I worked for MAC back in the late 90s, before Lauder, when it was artistry based. It meant something to get a job there- They even flew you to Canada for a week of basic training in their line, but you had to have real artistry skills to be hired. These days, I buy a lot of makeup, but there’s just SO MUCH great stuff available, even at the drugstore. I’m grateful that I have the means & the experience within the cosmetic landscape to purchase (I do give a couple of items to my sister or co-workers, never declutter). But I am not the usual cosmetics customer, due to my years as a freelance artist. Personally, declutters make me sick because when I worked as an artist, you were lucky to get (we called it gratis, not PR) and we had the time to actually use our products & find new, exciting ways to use them because there were only four major launches a year and these launches were true extensions to the line availability- this concept of limited edition wasn’t a thing. I feel for those of the younger generation, being inundated with the new, after new, after new. I enjoy watching makeup videos, but I feel as you do regarding this ‘ugly’ cycle of consumption. You’re a strong woman, so fuck these idiots who attack you for your opinions. But who cares what I think- I’m just some old bitch anyway. Keep doing you, lovely.

I find the huge collections and declutters vulgar. It’s also bizarre how once they own the new thing, it’s often chucked haphazardly into a drawer and forgotten about. Or with clothes, thrown into a ball on the floor because there’s no room (or will) to put it away. Imagine if you were buying a new dress, and watched the sales assistant pick it out of a tangle of clothes on the ground to give to you. But that’s where it ends up after it gets home! If we’re such suckers for marketing we should market the things we have to ourselves. Make a nice display and care for them

I personally don't dislike watching declutters, but I totally agree with you that it is problematic if one gets into a cycle of decluttering only to make space for new things, if your collection becomes a revolving door of products, that is wasteful behaviour and sets a bad example. I don't watch any of the very large and famous beauty channels, only a small number of Beauty-KZbinrs with small- to mediumsized channels, because larger channels rarely cater to my taste and opinions and just seem so far removed from my reality (partly for the reasons you mentioned). I understand that for many KZbinrs that revolving haul-and-declutter system might seem like the best solution since they feel the need to constantly try and review new products for views but also don't want to drown in product. But it should be clear that that kind of reality is not one anyone should strive for. And I have to say, a huge part of the appeal of watching huge declutters for me is the sense of relief it brings me: see, all that shiny new stuff I lusted for back then, it didn't even last a year in their collection! See how quickly it lost its lustre? See how stressful it is to accumulate such a large collection and then to have to get rid of all that stuff? How glad I am now that I resisted impulsively buying all that makeup that at first sight might have appealed to me. In my opinion, for a person who doesn't earn money by reviewing makeup, a large declutter should be for the purpose of downsizing your collection (permanently), not just swapping the old for the new. 2019 was the year of decluttering all my possessions, for the very practical reason that I moved out of my home in December and am for the forseeable future leading a quasi-nomadic lifestyle. I was able to store all my stuff that didn't fit in a suitcase at my Dad's house, but it simply made no sense to hold on to things that weren't important to me. But, in my case by necessity, I'm not seeking to replace the portion i got rid of, instead as you said, Elle, the reward was that I now have a lot fewer belongings to worry about on the journey to a new home and the belongings I do have all are meaningful to me.

Yes! This is what I’ve always called splurge and purge. This behavior isn’t new it’s just constantly in front of us with videos and potential to make money from it. I think each person has to hit their personal breaking point like we have when their behavior changes. I used to go through that cycle long before watching videos but I got to my personal point to say enough. Decluttering can be as euphoric as hauling too; maybe this can be something addressed here on out. Anya had some good points about this-if anyone wants to see her thoughts, her video is called “the dark side of decluttering.” We can each identify ourselves in parts of this cycle bc we are active participants in this community. But we can be strong and more videos of awareness will help get that thought process going. Whitney Hendricks also made a video today talking about how here on out she will only be using a handful of palettes on her channel and that she will still continue to keep up with content bc she will use only those shadows to dupe any palette released. There are pros and cons to that; we feel it in project panning but it’s innovative to take a stand and say “done” in a public way. I had so many thoughts watching this bc it’s a conversation that needs to be had and you’re right-years and years in the making. You aren’t alone and it’s absolutely true that once you notice the behavior it’s hard to unsee but that takes growth and personal change and maybe they haven’t quite reached that moment for themselves❤️

I’m not opposed to declutters. I konmaried my closet two yars ago, before the whole method blew up on social media. It was a lengthy process, I asked myself every time if I liked the thing and why. This gave me a lot of insight in my real preferences. It was a learning experience. I learned what I truly love and WHY. This aspect of declutering is lacking in many social media purges.

One of the things I've noticed with these cycles is that so often a reason for getting rid of the makeup item is that it's limited edition and "I can't use it in videos anymore." I cringe so hard when I hear that for precisely this reason - they're just going to go out and buy the next LE palette, which will end up in the declutter pile 6 months from now. Not only is it such a waste of money (and honestly, how many friends and family members can someone keep pawning used makeup off to), but the environmental impact just kills me!! Same with the fast fashion hauls/declutters. Thank you for making this video!!

I was utterly horrified the first time I saw a decluttering video of over 90 foundations. I can’t stand the normalization of enormous makeup collections. I have had trouble finding beauty videos to watch because I am over the hauls, tired of incessant new releases, and upset by the massive declutters. I guess I’m in the minority, but I don’t get how this crazy situation of excessive consumerism is fun any more. I’ve got a beautiful makeup collection and can hardly use what I already have. I have NO ONE to pass anything along to!

I forgot to mention how I also got caught up in the influencer buy buy buy brainwashing, I have almost 20 colourpop palettes and have only used 2 of them so far, I have all these bad habit pat Magrath mothership dupes and haven't used any of them yet even though they are really nice and beautiful lol all these Lil Huda beauty palettes like 9 of them and only used 1 lol and the list goes on. I was trying to keep up with the Joneses! and I finally took my head out of my ass and stopped! This beauty community is toxic at times, it's all about buy buy buy, then it was feel bad about buying all this makeup, and now its declutter, and now its all these hauls, you know, wash, rinse, repeat its a sickening cycle perpetuated by corporate America, and they use youtube influencers to influence the masses which is us and it works! let's just hope people pay attention to this video and can end the cycle cuz it's not easy to do, and it can be depressing! yes, a real mental illness! caused by this cycle! I'm just sayin! and again kudos for doing this video bcuz it needed to be said!

I hate when they throw the items in the trash saying oh well I think it's expired. At this point I'm pretty sure most shelters have too much makeup. When I get rid of makeup I put it on Craigslist under free and people come and get it. I leave it on my porch and when I return home it's gone. The best suggestion for makeup was to give it to your local school's drama dept. They don't have enough friends to give away the amount of makeup they have.

Totally agree with you! If you are decluttering because you have too much, why keep getting more? It really makes me mad because they push these products on their viewers, telling them this their holy grail and it is the best makeup just to get rid of it a couple weeks later. I don't fall for it anymore. I am overwhelmed with makeup and don't have anywhere close to what most youtubers have. I'm not allowing myself to buy anymore unless it is to replace something I have used up. And to be honest, all makeup looks boring to me now. I don't get sucked into a palette because of one or 2 pops of colour anymore(especially since I probably own the shades already).

I have an addictive personality so it’s easy for me to become ‘obsessed’ with something. I know myself very well & that prevents me from becoming addicted to things such as makeup or shopping. Someone who I am genuinely worried for & concerned about is beauddiction. She spends sooo much money but says ‘it’s my job, I have to do this’ but she’s been doing it since wayyy before she had a following. I can’t watch her anymore. I think this whole YT mindset that they need everything as soon as it’s launched for their channel in order to get views is ridiculous & a serious problem.

The haul declutter cycle bothers me more with fast fashion. I've seen influencers create a HUGE mountain of decluttered clothes, many things with the tags still on, and then their next episode is...a Zara haul. It's disgusting on so many levels but also like someone got paid pennies in a sweatshop for them to get the tiny thrill of a "new shiny thing" that they didn't actually want or need anyway and is ultimately destined for the trash, because let's face it, thrift stores are overflowing, and most donations never make it to the sales floor.

I like to watch smaller creators with collections close to mine declutter stuff. My family are all hoarders and I'm constantly scared I am going to also become one so when I watch people go through things and get rid of stuff is helpful to me because it reminds me that it's actually okay to do it and that holding onto a bunch of stuff I can't possibly use in my lifetime is kind of silly. I went through most of my makeup in January and gave a bunch of stuff away to my coworkers (who were legit excited for it, I didn't just dump stuff on people) but I also have NO intention of rebuilding my collection back to where it was. I also receive a lot of skin care products from work as samples or that vendors want us to try and I take whatever won't work for my skin (like anything for oily skin) to a shelter near me because I know they are often looking for skin care stuff. I do agree though, it's frustrating to see people who are caught in a haul/ declutter cycle because ultimately it's wasteful and if people are trying to address an issue with shopping and they can't see what's really going on, it makes me feel bad.

Marketing and advertising has definitely changed in the digital age. Consumers are being targeted differently. Magazines are no longer preferred and paper waste is being replaced with product waste or annoying social media ads. Advertising will never go away because it has the desired effect, which is consumerism. It will continue to evolve and change.

I had been collecting palettes for the past 8 years. I noticed that the eyeshadows were not performing the same anymore. Stupidly I thought they’d be good forever because they were powder. There is a fine line with using what you have and having what you like and not being wasteful. I’m still trying to figure that out. I’ve de cluttered so that these beautiful eyeshadows get used and not go to waste. I don’t have channel btw.

Another great video that sparks discussion in our community. Personally, a declutter is best when the product didn't work out for you, or if you used the shade that you loved but not gonna use the rest (example palettes), but you purchased the products because you KNOW you're gonna USE them, not just for a video or to have something new.

So, so agree!! I don't declutter, I don't want to pan products ~~ well eye shadow palettes anyway~~ I adore my way too massive collection, that is displayed for my viewing only, to be used, to be enjoyed ~~ that said if a product has truly become too old, rancid, just plain ole doesn't work for me, on my face, it goes down to my studio to be used in my paintings and drawings! It will be used, foundations on heavy weight paper make a beautiful back drop for pencil drawings. Eye shadows, blushes, bronzers on paper cast an ethereal glow, pigments are pigments, but I don't bring my art pigments upstairs from the studio to put on my face ~~ that, is not recommended. Declutter, just to make room for more products one doesn't use? ~~ nope. ~~keep spreading the word of your unpopular opinions! p.s. I am on a no buy with no determined end date, January down, February half down, March TBD. One month at a time. So that should tell ya something. Completely loving and enjoying revisiting and using my stash~~ and love watching when folks go back and revisit theirs, those videos are the one I like watching now, reach back in time, use that palette, limited addition or not ~~ lots of us have it and would love to see a new take on our current, owned, loved, purchased products ~~ not the future ones we covet, but the ones we have now in our possession, at the ready.

I like watching declutters when the collection (whether it be makeup, clothes, books, etc) is at least roughly comparable in size to my own. That actually motivates me to go through my own stuff in a meaningful way. But I’ve learned that I can’t deal with massive declutters because they just make me mad lol. It’s like, yeah, of course you can get rid of half your collection, or 1000 items or whatever the clickbaity title is...you’re starting from a point of excess that I can’t even imagine!!

I also prefer a 'slow' declutter of being sure I can let go of 1-2 products and then eventually moving them out of my collection! I just don't like the waste. But I kept doing the cycle of looking for things to get rid of, obsessively, and I didn't like it. This year, I'm doing a no-declutter year for makeup or skincare, so I can only declutter if something makes my skin mad, or at the end of the year. Otherwise, I either keep it or finish it. I keep getting that itch to get rid of stuff, but I now redirect it to cleaning my living environment. Feels better already!

Hi Elle! Such an awesome video as always! Your channel has really made me rethink my own makeup purchases and you do such an amasing job every time. I totally agree with the dislike of the haul-unhaul-haul-unhaul vicious cycle a lot of beauty KZbinrs seem to fall into, and being more aware of the "why?" "Why am I purchasing this?" "Why didn't I like this?" Etc. However, the one thing I disagree with (and this is general, not your specifically) was your point about privilage. I don't necessarily think it's fair to say that another person's ability to purchase a lot of makeup, or recieve PR packages, is responsible for the purchasing choices of someone who may not necessarily be able to afford that. As our mamas have probably said (or at least mind did 🤣): if Jimmy jumped off a bridge, would you jump too? Anyway! I'm extremely long winded, but let me just say again I love your channel, and you've really helped me with becoming personally aware of what I'm swiping my card for. I never understood massive declutters, getting rid of a few products makes since but I’ve listened to them say things like “I did pretty good it could have been more though” after practically clearing the drawer. I realized I love pretty packaging and was drawn to it but I also wanted a functional product I love inside. I have a lot of makeup but I feel like it’s Curated, it’s in one location now only not all over my room. I’m not buying any additional storage to accommodate it, my collection will over usage and time decrease, it will never be out of control again.

@jessicacole5955

I certainly agree with your comments on the large haul/ large declutters but I do have a slightly different perspective about declutters in general: I actually backed into the beauty community through watching declutters of smaller/ med sized channels (specifically Lauren Mae Beauty and Jessica Braun) and, ironically, looking at 'minimalist makeup collections' and so they were people who either bought their own makeup or got little PR compared to huge YTers or haul channels. While I ended up getting a lot more into make up as a result- and especially being bolder and braver by trying more color/ glitter eye shadow etc- the #1 take I got getting into beauty was a very implicit warning: most of the stuff bought has not long-term value/ interest. So while had I discovered a new found enthusiasm in my 40s for makeup, I also got the benefit of 'real' reviews as people talked about products they kept vs decluttered and also the warning to think very critically about what I did buy (often months AFTER a release if I do so I can really make sure it;s something I want vs just loving the 'new' of it and rarely at retail).

This is why I just love Kelly Gooch! She's very honest. She was on strict no buy, which this year she relaxed. She always wants to keep collection well curated. So, she does frequent shop my stash and tries to finish up the products. She does makeup inventory - if there's room in some category, say blush - she's not running out n filling out the empty places. For example, she wanted Hourglass Ambient Light Powder. Since it's expensive, she bought mini size. She didn't like it - instead of throwing away, she put it in Project Pan and finished whole thing up! She's amazing!

I've "decluttered" several times over several years and while it was exhilarating to figuratively lift some of the load off myself, I wasn't as thoughtful in my choices of product removal as I should have been. I still wish I would have kept a lot of it. I probably also looked like a crazy person in the eyes of the friends and family I sent packages and brought bags filled to the brim with makeup to. Nowadays I don't shop for makeup because I'm uninspired by all the "new" shit I essentially already have. There are a small number of unique makeup I want to buy eventually, but not in a hurry.

Just the video I was looking for. I mentioned on someone else’s video a few weeks ago that there seems to be a haul-declutter cycle. The people in particular I find doing these are people who have been on a no-buy/low-buy. I find it really hypocritical that they would make this big deal about overspending and cutting back, then they return to their wasteful ways. I’ve also found a few youtubers I used to love who would do dedicated reviews and other styles of videos like hints and tips and vlogs and now it seems like every single video is a “full face of new products” or “full face of new high end” then a few weeks later “full face of drugstore” and a first impression video every other week. It’s becoming more about each video being an advertisement and and less of a how to use makeup and make it work for you

I appreciate your thoughts on this. I've noticed this cycle too, and it started to bother me as I watched declutters. I like them for the visually asthetic reasons you mentioned, that I could see a wide variety of products and swatches and maybe hear how they performed. As I've watched more of them, it seemed like a cycle of waste and even stress. I think there is alot of pressure on creators to do ruthless declutters or to give makeup away to subscribers. I also think that the fast pace of releases exacerbates the declutter-haul cycle. Creators feel like they have to review the new stuff, so they declutter to make room, and may not spend much time with products just to stay on top of it all. It is easy to fall in this cycle. I'm only buying replacements right now. My favorite k-beauty cream eyeshadow dried up, and I excitedly thought I could get a new Milani one I've been looking at. I stopped myself, because the point of replacement only is to just replace essentials. I have other cream shadows to use. I think the declutter-haul cycle needs to be acknowledged and discussed more.

😅 Declutters are kinda like ASMR for me. The mini-reviews and reorganizing is what I like most about them. I was thinking of decluttering eyeshadow palettes I don't like but after watching your video..maybe I should just keep them and try to use them as much as I can. Even if they are sanitized, I can see why ppl would not want to play with a used palette. Also, if I did declutter.. I'm afraid even if I'm on a no-buy I would find an excuse to buy new makeup because "I have room". I realized what colors I won't reach for now and ones that make me excited to use. Eventually I want to just purchase single shadows. I also don't like palettes anymore. I use to think single shadows were too little and limiting (plus expensive) but it's the smart way to go. Now with magnetic palettes and more indie brands doing single shadows, it's perfect. But first, must use up all my makeup. Ugh I bought so much... lesson learned the hard way. 😪 Btw your hair, hat, and sweater combo is everything!! I subscribed to you and on my way to watch your "2013 best products.. where are they now" video!

I love makeup videos, but the majority of the products are not for me. I can admire them, but don’t have to have them as I know what does and doesn’t work for me now. I love special eyeshadows and that’s all I’m allowing myself to buy. Mindful shopping makes me so much happier, I love what comes in now, but stuff is still stuff. I don’t watch many hauls, I only like them when I know the products will be loved by the person who’s showing their new products, so when a creator has the same feeling, for example joy, wonder or creativity, about their new items as I have when I get mine.

But now I don't watch those anymore, I can't stand the "I LOVE IT, it's a GREAT PRODUCT, but I NEVER reach for it anymore, so it's got to go!" Ummmmm, you never reach for it because you have five hundred palettes, that's insane and no one person should produce that much waste! Also, when watching huge declutters I've noticed everyone says, "I love this palette I use it several times a week" or "I love this blush, I use it almost everyday" but they will say it about dozens of products... there aren't that many days in the week honey! This is such a good topic. I’ve really been trying to reign myself in in 2020. I’m on a universal low buy with reeeeally right rules, and thus far, January was a big success. I’ve been trying to move my mindset to focusing on learning what really makes me happy and what can outlast the brief high that comes with the purchase. Loving what I have, moving things out that I truly don’t like or won’t use, and actually learning from what I’m getting rid of and not replacing it with more stuff. This goes beyond makeup too. I’m examining all of my purchasing habits this way, in ever category. I don’t aim to be a minimalist, but I just reached a point where the excess just seems....pointless. And instead of tossing it all in one go, I’m taking my time, going through things. What do I like about this pair of pants? Why did I buy them? Did I ever really intend to read that book?

I don't watch any "big" content creators - their gross abundance of stuff makes me sick. I do enjoy declutters, but not from them because I know that ridiculous amount of stuff they're getting rid of probably hasn't been used once and will just be replaced by copious amounts of other stuff. I love seeing content creators using their "old" makeup, especially if it's products I have. That's realistic, that's relatable, that makes me appreciate what I have - seeing others use the products I also own. Plus it gives me more ideas of how to use them.

I only throw makeup out if it has tell tale signs of going off (smells bad, colour change, texture change, or wearing badly/splitting all of a sudden). I paid for all of it, I don't want to waste money. I noticed anything in a lipgloss type tube packaging goes off fastest.. I have had pretty great luck with powder products, my Naked 2 needs a bit of fix+ (the binders aren't as strong now) but my Naked 1 is performing same as ever as are my MUG shadows and they are both 6+ years old. I've also never gotten an eye infection. I repurpose makeup that isn't working for me into something I'll use. I love experimenting and creating frankenmakeup. I just want to get my money's worth :P I feel like I know my collection very well and I am a patient shopper. I take note of products that interest me throughout the year and see which ones make it to end of year favourites videos. I swatch things to try and avoid duplicates, I buy singles not palettes now and I only find something completely unique to my collection rarely so by the time I do my annual haul, I've panned enough things throughout the year to keep my collection under control (it all fits in a handheld train case + a shoe box so not too bad). My most recent haul was some of the Clionadh multichromes and I am so excited because I don't have any multichromes in my collection. Really enjoyed your video and you made some strong arguments. Beautiful hair, you look like an anime character. 0.o My 'declutters' are very small but I don't videos of it. I'm just an average makeup lover/goth who also does cosplay (so I love variety for lip and eye colors) and who paid for every single item, but usually I throw in the garbage stuff which has been in my arsenal for over three years and I usually try the thing once more just to be sure I don't want it anymore. If something is barely used I show it to my mother and see if she likes them. She can pan lipsticks and lipbalms and even blushes and eyebrow pencils, I wish I was as consistent as her in my project pans. XD New things I know I won't touch go to her colleagues as birthday and Christmas gifts, including makeup bags I received for free by buying makeup. My mom now is very appreciated and is a trend setter at her office, everybody wears blush, eyebrow pencils and highlighters and lipsticks, she is an influencer. XD I'm on a low buy and after slowly trying all my products in cycles I feel like I'm finally becoming a better consumer and see what I REALLY want and like, my tastes had changed since I started wearing makeup in 2014. But I totally get your point of view, decluttering for the sake of decluttering or just to have more room for more crap is not good.

I will not declutter any of my palettes until I die! I love them and they were expensive!

I like to watch some declutters, mainly to see what people keep and get rid of, some are funny because they make excuses/justifications of why "I don't use it, but I'm going to keep it". In my case I decluttered all of the drug store makeup and only kept the ones that worked the best for me, then, on the high end/Luxury side I kept the colors that I truly love or that look good on me, I check my lipsticks every 2 months for smell and consistency. I like the experience of applying my makeup since getting the packaging out, opening it and then applying it and then how it wears.

You're so right. I don't watch the large PR hauls anymore because it is so wasteful. You know that the bulk of the products will never be used. Wasteful and ridiculous!

I just did a massive declutter that is almost all products that I had purchased. I realized I didn’t need to hoard things because I have enough to last me a lifetime and I’d rather people get use out of what I’m getting rid of. I do know why people add in the disclaimer now after having people ask me for my makeup on my last video I posted. I’m trying to come off of my shopping addiction by panning and limiting what I get now under $50 a month

I enjoy watching eyeshadow declutters. But, I agree that the ones with lame explanations seem wasteful. The declutter commentary on Natasha Denona and other $65+ palettes tends to be weak. Overall, these collectors do not seem to enjoy these any more than a $12 Colourpop palette, yet they hold on to them because they “spent so much money on them”. Another concerning trend is calling makeup a collector’s item. No matter how pretty the packaging is, makeup is a consumable that expires. Finally, keeping tons of untouched Makeup Revolution palettes because they were cheap doesn’t make sense. But, bad buying decisions and PR perpetually make for entertaining content, I guess.

I’ve gotten to a point where I’m very selective about both hauls and declutters that I watch. For hauls, I’ll only watch if that YTr does small hauls and has a more reasonable collection. For declutters I don’t like watching those large (usually yearly) declutters. I will watch declutters from YTrs that have a makeup philosophy I agree with. For that its usually small declutters where they don’t want products to sit in their collection before the makeup goes bad. It is usually barely used products and only a few of them.

That sounds wonderful and like it works for you! I enjoy declutters on the smaller scale like that too.
