I've always thought of Saturn Valley as a sorta like child-run society that Itoi wanted to use to prove children can do great things, based on their childish handwriting that was based on that of Itoi's daughter in the Japanese version and their fairly goofy personalities. In a less fun twist, you can also tell how easily overpowered they are, inside Belch's fly honey factory in Grapefruit Falls, where it takes nothing to essentially enslave them, proving their weakness. They're afraid of just scary stories being told by Frightbots that don't even phase your party in Mother 3, which includes Lucas, who, if we assume he's 7 at the beginning of the game like in EB64, is 10 at this point. Yet, like a child, they're great at using their available resources to solve problems, like the weird bird cage thing in Mother 3, and they're great inventors, as seen with the Phase Distorters and Absolutely Safe Capsule

I believe that the Smash Bros. Sound effect for mr saturn is supposed to sound more like a fart. In the Japanese versions of mother 2 and 3 most of their wacky catchphrases are just fart noises written out

wow,nice interview info, also Im I have a hunch beta salsa was a mr saturn lol. Is weird beacuse plotwise, there is no weird creature village in mother 1, but in earthbound we got 2, and the saturns totally outlived the tendas in popularity, but in mother 3 we got a cricket village instead ofTendas, I guess those guys are too shy to keep existing in post capitalist apocalipsis earth

7 months late, but actually the part about Mother 1 not having a weird creature village is not true, as it has the Canary Village; which is a village full of weird bird people that you visit to obtain the 2nd melody. It appears very briefly and it’s pretty boring in comparison, but I still think it counts.

@VikingRJ8205 1 year late, but I always thought the Canary Village was just a village with canaries in it and the reason they looked so strange was because of the Famicom’s limitations. I’m pretty sure they’re just regular birds.

Okey mother is my favorite franchise I had never, EVER connected the points with the monkey theme. Thanks for that. maybe apes in . Once one mr Saturn dies, their hair falls out. Planting itself in like a tree. Within 3-4 hours, a new mr Saturn pops out like a pikmin. I made all of this up
