At the end of the day, most people that buy a mid-range of higher TV today will get a TV that would have been a flagship in the past. Even the X90L shocks people at stores next to the S90C and A80L since the OLEDs can't compete in full window brightness and look half as bright on occasion with a few highlights.

Agree, Sony deserves the price premium for the enthusiast. Their processing is best in class objectively. That being said, each TV has its own unique positives/negatives. No perfect TV. If anything, we should always ask for MORE from TV manufacturers. I’d love to see a mid-tier Sony QD-OLED, for example. Like a A90L.

I bought my Sony Z9K because I have a TCL 65 825 mini led set I bought in 2020 when it was on sale with my tax return. I heard about the Z9K in 2022 and Brian said it was an awesome set and of course mini led and 8k,super bright. I had an Inheritance that was decent so I decided to treat myself to a top end TV and ordered the 75 between cost and size was the best choice for me. I'm still quite happy with it today and the TCL is still here in my bedroom. I never would have considered a Sony before but I finally had enough money to comfortably buy their top end set so I did. They really are good at what they do and you pay the Sony tax but there is a reason. Otherwise go for the best one you can afford and be happy. I was thrilled with the TCL because it was the best looking TV I ever had and the biggest, for 1400 bucks. The Sony was just on a whole other level picture wise, but it was like 3 times the money. The only thing the TCL does better is blooming control, but it still looks good and you couldn't beat the price.

gotta say it's pretty stupid to judge a tv and anoint it as a winner overall, when you are judging the tv with a specific criteria in mind. Tv's aren't made solely to match a reference monitor. What about gaming? Ease of use? sports? multi entertainment? Features? etc? I love the shootouts, i really do but we have to have more nuance when we talk about the shootout results as a community. Brand fanboys are getting exhausting.
@klaymatic37512 ай бұрын
I don't get your post. You understand that the goal of the king of TV's is to use the objective standard of reference and see what TV gets closest. No one ever said that makes it the best TV for the consumer. It is what it is. TV reviews take all the things you said into consideration. Also, they made it pretty clear that all 3 oleds are absolutely amazing TV's and that the decision for which to buy should include all the things you said.
@bherbo39432 ай бұрын
@@klaymatic3751 saying a TV is "King of TVs" would Connote that it's objectively better at the all encompassing things that a TV would be used for. Otherwise we should call this test for what it is. The king of TVs that's best at replicating a monitor(a Sony monitor no less). That's the point I'm making. A shootout about the best TV, should be a shootout about the best TV. Pretty simple.

One thing I’ll say that isn’t mentioned enough. That no one talks about. Flagship TVs are more affordable then ever period. TVs 20-25 years ago that were the 95L, G4 and 95D of there time were probably 7-15K. People were paying over a grand for Walmart garbage in 05. Now they complain about Sony pricing. People like cheap crap for some reason now too. Hence why Roku tvs, And Crystal Samsungs are popular lol. It boggles the mind when TVs are one of the very few products in any walk of life that we have gained ground on the last 20-25 years. Why not buy better lol. Especially when people a paid lot more for a lot less.

Love Sony but the only thing I do not like about their TVs is using Google as their base software. Yes, I know I don't have to use it, but sometimes my A95K does freeze up and I have to remove power to get it back. Never had that issue with any of my LG TVs or any of the older Sony TVs I've had prior to. Still the best quality, color and motion in the game. So, yes, I am about to get an A95L since it does improve the brightness as well as other improvements.

As I'm discovering on my TV, the largest difference today is in scene selection and the choice of SDR vs HDR. If you buy a G4 and A95L, they will look quite similar. Put either one of them in Standard and the other in calibrated mode and the image difference will be a shock. Now Standard modes are not created equal and while Sony's the best, it can easily be improved by 20-30% as I discovered 3 years ago (I don't know how it translates to new models) and while it's easy to do, you need a reference point otherwise you'll go too warm or cool and both those will affect the image more than any brand or model you can buy. Even a color shift of 7 points from 65 to 72 is more pronounced than the difference between a G4 and A95L.

I'm a tweaker when it comes to tvs. I don't shoot for reference accuracy, but I also don't add effects until it looks like a cartoon. Speaking of cartoon, my mode for anime looks wayyy better than filmmaker on most anime to anyone with working eyes. A friend laughed out loud when he saw how different it was, in a good way. Same with most programming on HDR and SDR with more realistic modes. I have spent time in there tweaking. Real hours. It fixes most "lazy" color grading that occurs in many movies and programs. People who spent 3x as much to watch in filmmaker or a cold 50 mode on a "top of the line" tv aren't having a better experience than me. The time I spent dialing in a subjectively pleasing picture matters. The difference between my C1 and a newer tv is going to get overcome by my settings on most content.
@techsamurai112 ай бұрын
@@paulcox2447 I only have one mode that I use. The setting I struggled the most with was Live Color on a Sony and I had to leave it at the default setting Medium. I think the hate Sony gets is misplaced. The shootouts a tailor made for Sony to win because they chase accuracy. I personally don’t care about accuracy, I want a picture that looks how I want it to look. Plus it depends on use case. I’m only looking for a 65 inch movie watching tv for my bedroom so I’ll probably get the G4 just because of the price.
