This shouldn't have been America. A nation built on the standard that all men are equal. Communist doctrine states that all men and women, black, white Asian, are equal. Neither broadly tolerate gay or transgender, Jew or Muslim, free speech and journalism, women's empowerment or peaceful demonstration. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Thank you. As an korean-american man who has lived in the US for 50 years and am a US citizen, I can't remember how many times I felt unwelcome in my own country. I can't recall how many times I was told, "Go back to where you come from!" While this has become less frequent over the years, it still does happen still, the last time was a couple of weeks ago. It was always present in society but just became worse with Trump.

@John Smith Even if that were true (I am not convinced), the over sexualization of South East Asian women is what made them targets of his war against his "addiction". Even if his motive wasn't directly racist, this is not a race neutral situation.

@Woodland Gangsta As an old white Southern woman, I've seen examples of white privilege in how I'm treated by cops. My tags expired 3 months ago, because I forgot! I have them now, but I wasn't pulled over. Several months ago, I took my car to my mechanic for repairs, and he looked surprised at the items in my back seat. "Aren't you afraid of what a cop will think when they pull you over?" Huh? I haven't been pulled over in decades, but what??? I live way out in the boonies, down in a canyon that drops 1000 feet during the 3 mile very rough dirt road to my house. It's sometimes impassable when it rains, so I carry emergency supplies like; shovels, sandbags, tow chain, tarp, duct tape, rope, and a big machete. Tools I may need if I get stuck. He said, "Damn woman! This looks like a serial killer's tool kit!" Never even occurred to me. Can you imagine if a young black man got pulled over and had all that stuff in his car? He would be shot!

@Woodland Gangsta This 👆 exactly!!! Make sure to say that loud, proud, and often! As an Indo-American, I assure u other indo-Americans aren’t appreciative nor aware of the weight of all the help they got from their black brethren. The rights they enjoy today because of them. I have tried here and there, but always shut down because they’re ’too busy’ or simply didn’t care. I make sure my kid learns everything he can about history though. And black/women contribution being part of it. He can’t be a good human/citizen without understanding it all.

My daughter was attacked in the street in Leeds UK last week. She and her Filipina friend were walking back from uni and some loser started shouting at them 'Paki' [ meaning Pakistani] then he hit my daughter in the face and punched her friend. The girls gave him a kicking and hit him with a skateboard. The police were there in minutes without being called, and we are looking forward to seeing him in court.

When I was a young girl, My parents took care of our neighbors house. They were taken to a camp because they were japanese. Their family had been in our small town since the late 1800's. I didn't understand why they took my friend away. I'm really old now, and I still don't understand. My parents made sure their home and livestock were kept safe for them. I got sent home from school because I asked the teacher how this was different from what the Germans were doing. What I got taught was that I was to stay silent. I wasn't to question or speak aloud my anger at what happened to my friend. When they came home, they would talk to us, but wouldn't meet anyone else's eyes. I remember my dad getting into an argument with another man at church over this. For people who don't understand "asian" racism wake the hell up. We put them in camps JUST LIKE GERMANY DID. We may not like to admit that, but it's time that we, all of us, stand up to open hatred that one particular political party in this country has spread for years. It doesn't matter what color, religion or any other nonsense. Folks, I'm at the end of this life, please make it stop before the end of your life

We should also be remember that it was Earl Warren, then California AG, who advocated for and oversaw the relocation camps. Wow. Before I address my concern with the gentleman who provided this video, I have to address this related observation by Matt U first. Sir, your statement knocked me over and woke me up to the reality of how easily one person (myself) can overlook and unintentionally ignore significant pieces of US history. I assume everything stated in this short video is highly accurate and, in light of that, your comment - & I paraphrase - " learning more in 13 minutes versus K through 12th grade" hit the center of the bull's eye - not even a light stretch of the imagination! Thank you for highlighting what should be (again speaking for myself) so significant and painfully obvious. I try my best to always keep an open mind and some enthusiasm to keep learning , but now I'm very curious how many short and correct videos I, and maybe the majority of folks, may have overlooked and remain to be discovered..? Suddenly my job was a pleasure. (Edit: even though I made 3 times as much, selling insurance!) I'm guessing that your Danny is much the same. As an Asian-American, even just what you're saying in the first minute is spot on and shows you have a greater understanding of our issues than most folks in the US. Nothing that's happening now is new. Asian-Americans have never had a real rights movement in the US, and so we've always been considered fair game. The best we can hope for is to be ignored, to not be considered worthy of time because we're such a small part of the population still. It's not new with Trump, it's not new with Covid, those are the just the latest flavor. I've heard people say that the anti-Asian sentiment in the US is the result of conflict with China, but that's just their latest favorite reason. There will always be a reason.

Here is a small fact that many people are not aware about the internment camps. During WW2, the US would have an agreement with other allied countries (mostly in Latin America) with significant Japanese immigrant populations, and they would reward them for sending their Japanese immigrants to US interment camps. Many people of Brazilian-Japanese and Peruvian-Japanese families were separated and split up into different countries with no explanation why they were being sent to camps in the US.

"Integration is only a method that is used by some groups to obtain freedom, justice, equality, and respect as human beings." I'm struggling to see why Malcolm X had a problem with this. "Separation is only a method that is used by other groups to obtain freedom, justice, equality, or human dignity." As for this, I don't understand what he thinks he's saying, because that's basically the opposite of the case.
@DrSanity7777777
@DrSanity7777777 3 жыл бұрын
@@Mythraen Malcolm explains the difference between separation and segregation. "The black man that you're not familiar with is the one that we would like to point out now. He is a new type. He is the type that seldom the white man ever comes into contact with. And when you do come into contact with him you're shocked because you didn't know that this type of black man existed. And immediately you think, "Well here's one of those black supremacists or racists or extremists who believe in violence and all that other kind of..." Well, that's what they call it. This new type of black man, he doesn't want integration; he wants separation. Not segregation, separation. To him, segregation, as we're taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, means that which is forced upon inferiors by superiors. A segregated community is a Negro community. But the white community, though it's all white, is never called a segregated community. It's a separate community. In the white community, the white man controls the economy, his own economy, his own politics, his own everything. That's his community. But at the same time while the Negro lives in a separate community, it's a segregated community. Which means it's regulated from the outside by outsiders. The white man has all of the businesses in the Negro community. He runs the politics of the Negro community. He controls all the civic organizations in the Negro community. This is a segregated community. We don't go for segregation. We go for separation. Separation is when you have your own. You control your own economy; you control your own politics; you control your own society; you control your own everything. You have yours and you control yours; we have ours and we control ours. They don't call Chinatown in New York City or on the West Coast a segregated community, yet it's all Chinese. But the Chinese control it. Chinese voluntarily live there, they control it. They run it. They have their own schools. They control their own politics, control their own industry. And they don't feel like they're being made inferior because they have to live to themselves. They choose to live to themselves. They live there voluntarily. And they are doing for themselves in their community the same thing you do for yourself in your community. This makes them equal because they have what you have. But if they didn't have what you have, then they'd be controlled from your side; even though they would be on their side, they'd be controlled from your side by you. So when we who follow the Honorable Elijah Muhammad say that we're for separation, it should be emphasized we're not for segregation; we're for separation. We want the same for ourselves as you have for yourselves. And when we get it, then it's possible to think more intelligently and to think in terms that are along peaceful lines. But a man who doesn't have what is his, he can never think always in terms that are along peaceful lines." - Malcolm X (The Race Problem.; African Students Association and NAACP Campus Chapter. Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. 23 January 1963) Malcolm understood the difference between dignity and integration. Our desire should be to ensure the dignity of every human being. The source of dignity is self-reliance. We cannot have true self-reliance and dignity unless we have control and responsibility over the means of our support. Achieving dignity for every citizen is not just an individual effort. To reach our full potential, we must work with others in our community. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYesXmmuhqh7nLM

I am well into my sixty seventh year on this earth and I grew up in an area of extreme racism. I never thought about it much until adulthood. In my twenties it did not make much sense to me. My children have taught me a lot and I learned. Yes, I often slip up with phrases I learned in childhood but as soon as they are out of my mouth I am embarrassed for having said that. Little things were ingrained in me during my formative years that are hard to root out but I try. Sadly the same cannot be said of all my age.Those folks have ingrained it in their children and so it continues, but slowly we are on a better path and the youth will lead the way if we let them. You are not going to change many my age so focus on the young ones. Sesame Street did a really good job of dragging it out of the shadows and was instrumental in exposing a lot of kids to the idea that the world is a bigger place than their homogeneous suburbs or lily white rural areas.

From my perspective, I think people of color need to realize that people from your generation grew up in a different time, and often it's hard to gain perspectives when everyone around you is doing them. I also believe it is extremely difficult to change what we have become accustomed to as society evolves. I still hear people use the word, "Jap," but I know many of these people and I know it doesn't come from a malicious place, and scorning them for using it doesn't help but furthers the divide between cultures/subcultures. Where my judgement comes in is what people do after being informed. From my perspective, you and your family are good people in my book because you are making efforts to be better. I think it's hard for us Asians to wrap our heads around it too, at least it is for me as filipino. We grow up with the constant message to fit in and assimilate, which is emphasized even more by Asians saying we're not Asian and pacific islanders saying we're not pacific islanders. So, we grow up unwittingly idolizing "white culture" and wanting to be more white and not stand out and maybe fit in somewhere. Then getting compliments for how beautiful you are because you're Asian and people talking about Asian fetishes, and it's a lot to take in even without the history of racism. So, thanks for posting this and putting it all into a grander perspective in terms of history and culture.

I don't understand why there is so much distrust and fear in your communities. I grew up in a community that was Asian, Native American, East Indian and white. I never saw anyone as the other. They were members of my community. I grew up with different ethnicities and we celebrated them in our classrooms. It was not perfect and God knows what we did to the Native Americans but I didn't know that as a 10 year old kid. Inclusion is the key.

I am not afraid to stand up for myself and speak out. However, living in rural Middle America where there are some racist white ppl who already look down on me and my existence- it doesn't matter what I say to them because they already DGAF about me. But, when I have my white friends who speak aloud and support me when injustice does occur helps create a united effort because that racist person is forced to listen. Ppl who stay quiet and permit evil to exist will allow racism to never end simple as that.

Bobby Clay 1 second ago thay sped the chinese virus trump sad it..President Trump again used the term "Chinese virus" to refer to the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, despite calls from global health officials to avoid labels associating the disease with a particular nation or ethnic group. Mr. Trump's comments have drawn backlash and raised concerns about stigmatizing Asian-Americans. His rhetoric gained growing attention Tuesday after he used the phrase in a tweet about supporting the airline industry as travel restrictions decimate their business. "The United States will be powerfully supporting those industries, like Airlines and others, that are particularly affected by the Chinese Virus. We will be stronger than ever before!" he wrote. This is why I loved history in school. I wasn’t the kid who accepted the text book version. I delved into books in the public library as well. I listened to my grandparents tell the stories of our family. Being of a very strangely convoluted mixture of Jewish, Cherokee, Portuguese and Austrian, I’ve heard the stories of the Trail of Tears and children being ripped from parents and placed in “Indian” orphanages, of escaping the Nazi’s only to have the rest of our family executed in camps, and coming to America (thanks to a few members of family already here) and being treated like trash, and of coming to America from Portugal and being treated like trash in Connecticut because my grandfather’s skin was so dark. America has no loss in its bigotry and racism. We have always treated new comers as “others” and less than. I’ve always had white privilege due to recessive genes giving me light skin, blonde hair and green eyes. But I use that privilege to stand for others. I’m using my voice and my physical presence to speak up and stand with those being targeted. I can’t help it, it’s something I’ve always done even as a kid. I live in LA near Koreatown. I won’t allow people being disrespectful to Asian Americans, to Black people, other women or the elderly. I may one day get harmed myself for doing so, but I rather be the person who did something to stop hate, than the one who looked away and did nothing.

In the 1900s, Americans brought back indigenous Filipinos and put them in "zoos" to showcase Americans about the Philippine boondocks (a term they coined from bundok, meaning mountains in Filipino). This was after the very first genocide of the 20th century (1899-1902) where up to 3 million Filipinos died in the hands of America.
