Shane needs to rethink how he creates his series. He should film and edit the ENTIRE thing before he even thinks about making a trailer or dropping any info on it. Same way most film makers work. You make the movie FIRST. THEN the trailer. He put the cart before the horse and it bit him in the ass.

Dee Dee he normally does but it’s not a movie first of all it’s an online series. The series was split from the beginning of 2019 to now. So a complete trailer wasn’t possible with the launch & everything

But this series was made in a way to show us the palette and how it came to be, so he was filming, editing and posting all at the same time. With his previous series he did do that, and that's why they seemed more logical and ends were tied...this whole thing was a one off situation, because he was also releasing a palette...I think initially he had thought he needed more fillers and other stuff..which later he realised he didnt need..hut he already put in the trailer...the trailer was his mistake.

I know it's not a "regular movie" I get that. I get this is a 'documentary type of series. I fully understand the concept. It's still a mistake to make a trailer featuring things you do not include. Hence why its a smart idea to film and edit the entire thing first. Editing on the fly like this causes these issues, including a random schedule for episode releases. This could have been better organized is my point. If he had a clear structure for the series that he planned to follow it wouldn't be an issue. But he didn't, he changed things mid game. I'm saying this as someone who doesn't give a shit about the drama. The execution of this was poor from a film making point of view.

I wish there was an extra episode just dedicated to influencer culture. There's so much I don't understand about that side of the industry, and I felt like it was a huge missed opportunity to shed light onto it. Like, how does PR work? How did they decide on who should get PR? How do you organize a meet-and-greet? What does a launch party actually do? What even IS an influencer in this day and age? How do they get paid? Then you could delve deeper, such as how drama channels (who have now become a type of influencer so it sticks to the theme of the episode) have affected the beauty community, and discuss cancel culture (using James vs Tati as the example). It would have been informative and very interesting in my opinion WHILE avoiding the drama Shane clearly didn't want to be apart of. We get all sides of the beauty industry and have followed the collection from start to finish.

I feel like everyone is forgetting that J* accused James of being a sexual predator. You can't just throw around accusations like that and dangle receipts out there and then just be like "sorry I popped off." J* is either protecting a sexual predator or falsely accused someone of being a sexual predator. I am disappointed in Shane for not being objective and letting J* get away with so much stuff. He also needs to actually study filmmaking if he wants to make documentaries because they always end up jumbled and lost. I do love Shane, but he needs to do better on a lot of fronts.

Shane was in the middle of a huge business deal with J* when this happened. It would have been the right thing to do to call out J*'s bullshit, but he probably did that in private. Shane's hinted as much. J* probably apologized to Shane in private and Shane took that as good enough because he wanted to believe J*'s promise that this scandal has finally taught him a lesson. The J* & Shane partnership has been lucrative for Shane, it'll probably take a few more J* scandals for Shane to morally feel like he needs to burn that bridge. It's hard to believe someone is mean when they haven't been mean to you yet. I've been friends with people longer than I should before, and only burned the bridge when they screwed me over. I should have seen it coming but people want to believe the best of people, especially when they're showering you with compliments and gifts and promising never to do it again.

Here’s my thing: one major thing that was promised in this series was that they would peel back the veil of the beauty community and release NUMBERS and statistics and show what actually happens with a palette and collaboration of this magnitude. Yet, even in those final scenes with Jeffrey and Shane meeting where Jeffrey said ‘we have all the numbers for you’; they did not say we made X amount of money overall, Shane walks away with X amount of dollars, we sold X amount of palettes, lip sticks, etc (they said the conspiracy number but nothing else.) I understand why they would shy away from telling their monetary stats because people are criticizing this series for being a long commercial; however that was promised from day one and was not shown. It WOULD be groundbreaking to hear how much each of them walk away with from this collaboration and the numbers overall yet despite repeatedly saying that would be so new and do this they never gave us those numbers.

As a person who works in the movie industry - there was no way for him to edit the whole thing and then release it. An average movie accumulates between 5-10 hours of material, he must have hundreds and it's only him and Andrew editing, so no. We would've waited another year to be released and at that point it wouldn't have been even remotely relevant

Raya Vladovska Im a professional editor and I have to disagree. If he wanted this schedule he needed to at least map it out and bring on another editor then. It's not as if he doesn't have the money to do so and frantically trying to edit a whole hours worth of changing content in one week was obviously a terrible idea. you see, i didn't shane point BLANK said the first episode this was a behind the scenes look at how a palette is made which has never been done before and shane did that that what was told he did put a little drama of the tati/james in the trailer but only A LITTLE i knew it wasn't the main focus yet it was the PEOPLE hyping it up saying this series will be aLl aBoUt dRaMa shane never said it was, j* never said it was they literally said in the first episode it wasn't so the only people that think that are people who bandwagoned into the train of 'drama' which got out of control i found it interesting, the whole process and i guess you can see it as an infomercial but like??? again, it was point blank said this was the process of making and palette and that's what was shown even the stuff in the trailer was still shown anyway and i know for sure all your youtuber favorites have done much worse in terms of 'clickbait' if you think that's what it is almost every youtuber has done it and ended up saying one line in terms of the title or something as such and no one says shit and yet when shane actually shows what ya'll want ya'll complain i'm not saying shane is perfect he should have mapped this stuff before the trailer but i do get it, he wanted to gauge the audience's reaction at the end of the day the drama wasn't even that popping anyway and now it's old tea big shows like south park actually have a similar process, they work on the fly and don't have anything planned out so they can do what is most relevant at the time and before anyone else i don't know, i don't see the complaints shane isn't perfect and not everything was 'the best ever' but i don't see what there is to be worked up about

I think Shane should take a step back from the editing process of these “series”. He’s obviously rich enough to hire someone who knows how to correctly edit and create storylines. I had the vibe that Shane wanted these videos to come off as serious documentaries, but the editing ruined that immersion for me. He should have someone review his rough edits and suggest/make changes where they’re needed. If he had a professional with him I bet the trailer wouldn’t have been such an issue and the storylines that “fell off” throughout the series would’ve either been completed or removed altogether.

Excuse me but no. I took extra shifts, transferred money, and woke up hours ahead of time with 3 devices ready for three stores. Didn't get anything. It was incredibly frustrating and yes I did cry. Never did I imagine that after all of the effort and doing extra steps would I not get anything. I am filming for my channel launch and yes I would have loved for it to be in my first few vids. I got my hopes up just to have websites crash over and over for 3 hrs straight. Had it all in each cart...

It’s about how much actual WORK and shifts and time people wasted only to be left empty handed. It’s about them running their business right and actually making enough product to meet demand. All of this entire launch was handled poorly and even now that people have gotten their products. I feel like the way the series was edited and re-edited as time went on made it difficult to have a completely linear and clear "story" or theme. There was a lot in there that didn't get fully fleshed out. That being said, I feel like the finale was the best they could do to try to appease most people but still focus on Shane's journey and the project progression over this year. Side note, the section where people were sharing their experiences on launch day and all the emotion behind trying to purchase the collection made me feel very odd. I understand that there's never been a makeup launch like this before but bottom line bottom line, it's makeup. RT not trying to judge but the amount of FOMO this launch produced was hella unhealthy.

I still wonder if either Tati’s or Jame Charles’ legal team got involved in stopping Shane from really commenting on the drama. They really wanted it to end so I wonder if they prevented it from being spoken about in depth. It would also make sense as to why Tati and Jeffree had a falling out.

@Patrick Evans well jeffrees word isnt exactly trustworthy either. i mean days after the scandal james was seen at beauty events and release parties with nikita, gabriel, patrick and other beauty gurus who all seemed in support of him while jeffree has had drama with gabriel, nikita, manny, laura, nikkie, jackie etc. his only youtuber friend left is shane so i can see why they probably felt it was best not to include the drama because their hands werent exactly clean in that either.

I’ve worked on Shopify before, and it’s honestly kind of amazing how involved they got. They’re usually just a passive platform that the company runs entirely unattended (kind of how Instagram wouldn’t get involved in a brand running their organic account). I think they did as much as they could in a really tough situation

Yeah it might have been out of their hands. Jefree said that they couldn’t come up with a number of palettes that they thought would be sold. I find that hard to believe but then again what do I know. I would genuinely assume that jefree’s team should have been responsible for knowing how much traffic to expect, like at least a ball park figure. I don’t think Shopify should’ve been held 100% accountable, but that’s just my fat ass opinion. Bout to throw a little shade but his staff is good looking maybe they don’t have degrees in anything lol

Maybe a teeny tiny startup, but this isn’t an inside look into the makeup industry. It’s an inside look into how Jeffree Star wants you to think JSC is run.

To me, the "reaction" seemed fake. Like, how would they have known to film themselves watching the video for the first time? And how would shane have known to say, "omg its gonna be dramageddon 2.0" from just the title??? Like??? Idk. Their faces and reaction just seemed so fake to me, and it seems like they just put that in in order to say that they addressed the drama.

He was basically just like, "okay here guys, heres my reaction, shut up about it now, look at how surprised and nervous i am about this!" 🙄 ffs.

We also never got a confrontation about Jeffree making direct accusations towards James, and I feel as though that was very calculated. I was so happy to see you on the episode. When I saw the people waiting to buy the collection, and crying I was screaming at the screen saying its just makeup its not the end of the world.
