Daniel Parker Even if she wouldn’t date the average joe, it doesn’t mean she knows how he would behave in a divorce. The only way to actually know is to witness him in a divorce. How tf can you objectively determine how someone will be 10,15,20 years down the line? Even if they have certain values or a certain etiquette now- is it a foregone conclusion that they will never change? No.

Meaning a prenup is like PLANNING for a divorce? But who would be the one planning for a divorce? The man woudn't even get into an marriage if he was, and if the women was planning to divorce she wouldn't recommend signing a prenup in the first place, which means logically speaking she coudn't be planning for a divorce either because recommending a prenup would ruin her plans of divorcing. What I want to say is, "Planning" m7ght not be the right word

“I refuse to sign a prenupt” is code for “I’m a gold digger who is going to take your money if things go south”. The white woman claims marriage is about trusting your partner to be fair if things go south but a prenupt does just that! If the two of you are tasked with the objective of arranging an agreement before marriage, that gives you the opportunity to witness first hand what his/her perception of fairness really is. My honest opinion is if you can’t negotiate a prenupt with your partner then the two of you are not really equipped to be married to each other. And I’d bet that most people who are opposed to prenupts are broke and wouldn’t be the ones to lose anything in a divorce- which is exactly why they don’t want one. 🤦🏾‍♀️

It is so true. The person you marry is not the person you divorce. There are so many things that can go wrong... more so, if you are not the same person you were in your 20s, why would you expect your mate to be the same 30 years later? We all change. Whether we want to admit or not, the prenup secured certain things. When someone has been unfaithful to you for whatever reason, the last thing on your mind is to be is reasonable...you want to get even. At that point "I'm sorry" is like dirty water. Useless...

Go DIANN ! We should be prepared on prenups. Why do people sound like a prenup signing is something you don't have a say in... What? You both think about the conditions and most of the people sign a prenup to keep their money when it goes wrong. It's not because they assume it'll go wrong or they'll assume the husband isn't going to stay for long. Divorce can get very messy and with all the emotional stuff going on, Somebody (or not everybody) in the relationship is trying to hurt the other one as hard as possible. That's just how a lot of people think in my experience.. People change after years,after a marriage, after kids. You don't know for sure you're going to stay a married couple but you're going to make it work. It's just in case something happens.

LoiseauLiberte there shouldn’t be an easy way out of a marriage.. defeats the whole purpose. Don’t make such commitments if you’re not prepared or confident you’ll uphold them at all costs. It’s not by force to get married. People can still be together and not be in a marital commitment.
@ToastAbrikoos
@ToastAbrikoos 6 жыл бұрын
Fiona London what do you mean by there shouldnt be an easy way out? Do you mean that everybody SHOULD suffer whime they're divorcing? Its a struggle as it is, why make it harder by not having an prenup. A prenup is clear and its already written up what is going to happen after a divorce
@fionalondon2874
@fionalondon2874 6 жыл бұрын
LoiseauLiberte YES that is precisely what I am saying. There should be consequences to breaking such sacred commitments so people take marriage more seriously when getting into it and being in it. Making divorce an easy process gives couples an easy way out, which like I said defeats the whole purpose of marriage. Bottom line is making such a commitment isn’t for everyone. Surely if you’re the type of person to want an easier way out of a relationship, getting married and entering a legally binding situation shouldn’t appeal to you in the first place?
@ToastAbrikoos
@ToastAbrikoos 6 жыл бұрын
Who are you to deside if people are serious about it or not. Like I said, People can change and marriage can really go sour. Even IF you fight for it every moment of your life, even IF everybody is pulling their weight. Even IF you're 100% your future is with him/her. + You said it isn't for everyone, but how can you know for sure if you don't try. The future is something we can not see, onlyy God can (He's also the one who decides..) Divorce is never easy, Prenups can make it easier but it's still a big thing to a person. The feeling they've failed on love, on marriage even feeling like they've failed their kids. And if you don't have anything like a prenup: you can also have you're EX husband/wife making it ungodly hard for you and try to take everything away from you, some try to even take away the kids.... You really wish for that too? Nobody wants it to happen but it happens so often... It's the same to buy a house and having a insurance. Sure you never hope your house burns down but IF it does, you have something to help you. nobody wishes it to go wrong.
@fionalondon2874
@fionalondon2874 6 жыл бұрын
LoiseauLiberte See this is what I mean.. the world has made marriage so trivial. You can’t compare marriage and prenups to a house and insurance. One is spiritually binding and the other is not. Breaking such a covenant with God should feel like your whole world is tearing apart. It shouldn’t be made easier. No prenups mean people will think twice as hard before they enter and leave marriages. I’m sorry to say but many people enter marriages without understanding the intricacies and depths of what they are signing up for or what they personally require for it.

I understand her point ( you are recognizing that the marriage may fail if you agree to a pre-nup) but there is something she is not getting. No-fault divorce is a legal reality. If society used her standard that marriage is a lifetime commitment that means YOU CANNOT get divorced. In HER scenario even if you hate each other you cannot get a divorce the only thing you can do is separate. Legally each could only control what property was in their respective names.

Because any women who were told to sign a prenup, would hesitate or said they will do it later. It shows what type of person they are to you. I have been happily married for 9 years now, I made the right call to trust her.

I would absolutely NEVER get married without a prenup! My mom got a divorce, and she lost almost everything. She was, and still is, a very successful business woman and she had to start over because she was being used. If my partner doesn’t want to sign a prenup, I could assume they want to marry me for my money(even if they don’t think that).

People change once a person has a affair on the spouse. The divorce person comes out they want everything that you have. I believe couples should go around their house before they get married and write down. What is each of their items they bought before marriage. Then have a separate list of items that were bought during the marriage.

I am a firm believer in prenups. I don't have a lot of money but I do own my home free and clear and if I married I would ask for a prenup stating that if we divorced we BOTH would walk away with exactly what we brought with us when we married. If he owned a home, he keeps his home and I keep my home. If he has a business and I don't, he keeps his business. He shouldn't have to sell the business he had when he married me to give me half of a business I had put absolutely nothing into, either sweat equity or capital. If I have one car and he has four cars, I keep my one car and he keeps his four cars. If I were a man I wouldn't demand that a woman sign a prenup. BUT, I wouldn't marry her if she didn't.

Steve misses the fact that you can’t control another person or their actions. No matter how hard YOU work at it, if the other person wants to go, they’ll go. If his wife woke up tomorrow and said she’s bored and wants a divorce, she’s taking half of everything and he’s paying alimony. There’s nothing he can do to stop it. The reality is 80% of divorces are initiated by women. And, in far too many cases it’s because she was more in love with the idea of getting married than she was with that particular man. It’s her “is this all there is” moment. And , if the man is reasonably successful, he gets to continue providing the lifestyle to which she’s become accustomed while she goes off and explores what else life has to offer. So, sure, tell men (especially affluent men) that pre-nups are a bad idea. It certainly works best for his female audience.

Medjine Seguy I agree. People take getting married too lightly. They jump into it without discussing finance, expenses, living arrangements, children, sex and the like. Marriage requires selflessness, love, compromising, honesty, communication, trust, faithfulness, commitment and so on. Therefore, if those things were not discussed before marriage and were not practiced within the marriage then of course you will have divorce. People get married for the wrong reasons or only because they are in love. Love is important but it's not the only thing that will keep a marriage going.

Also if you’re fifty looking to marry a twenty year old then needless to say you need a prenup.

A prenup can protect both sides if done right. I got royally screwed by my ex husband and the mistress now wife that he moved in the day before kicking me out with nothing but the clothes on my back. Every man I have talked to and dated has told me my requests are reasonable. The relationships didn't work out, but I was upfront with them and they told me they actually respected me for it because the way I would want to have it worded protects them as well as me. Havi g faith and trust in your partner is all fine and good, but it is always good to plan for the worst and hope for the best. That means that on issues that the law doesn't protect you from you need a prenup to address things that could happen that the law can't protect you from without. It's called covering your bases. People buy generators and insurance for their houses just in case something unexpected happens. A prenup is an insurance policy against being screwed over. If the person you are planning to marry doesn't agree to the prenup that must mean they plan on screwing you over. For example, the party that cheats loses custody in the divorce. Anything inherited after the marriage does not count as marital assets, both parties inheritances are protected as if they were premarital property/assets. A prenup only makes the ground rules legally enforceable.

I am also not the first woman he has screwed over. My ex husband is 18 years older than me, and I am his second wife out of three (that I know of.) He has at least 8 children by 5 different women that the courts have proven so far, and there are others that he has referenced in vague threats such as “I’ll tell you like I told the other one, you come after me for child support and I’ll take your kid.” Trying to shift the blame to all women is a problem you need to work on.

That’s my beliefs...(please be respectful of that, I respect if you do not believe in God). But other than that. My husband and I got on the same page long before marriage and we are building our lives together. So why wouldn’t we agree to split half and half if we divorce? I understand it gets muddy when it comes to famous ppl but for us that aren’t famous and are just everyday ppl, we need not be worried about all that in my eyes...instead of doing a prenup just marry someone that you know would be fair if you broke up. Chances are you wouldn’t break up anyways. I say all that to say..... unless you have millions and cannot trust that someone isn’t after your money and you still marry them, then sure get a prenup, but if you love and trust that person fully then just live your beautiful life and if ish hits the fan, be fair.

If you want to be "old school" here's how to be old school: 1. Stay virgin till marriage 2. Cover yourself properly 3. Stay home with the kids and look after your working man 4. Don't be argumentative with your husband as if you're competing with him 5. Cook and clean and look nice at home for him 6. Don't share your family and marital arguments and issues with the outside world. 7. Don't post on social media for people (men) to validate and compliment you. If you do those "old school" things then no one will see through your double standards, want old school man/marriage while being a modern woman :-)

Prenups can save a marriage. It starts important conversations that need to be had before the wedding. Many ppl expect marriage to be like a light switch that suddenly completely changes their partner cause some ppl's idea of the ideal bf/gf doesn't match their ideal husband/wife. Things that men and women tolerated for years as unmarried couples suddenly becomes the petty reasons for big arguments in their marriage. Prenups make couples talk about all the things that could ruin their marriage and come up with solutions to put it in writing how they agree to raise children, argue with each other, pay debt, etc as a couple to protect their marriage as well as remain civil and protect themselves if the marriage doesn't work. A prenup is an *agreement*. If you feel that you got the short end of the stick, blame yourself for signing without asking for changes and adding things that you want. You have to communicate with each other instead of just saying no all together

Exactly. That is why people shouldn't rush into relationships and marriage. Marry your soulmate, the person that "gets you" and that you are simpatico with. The most important thing is to be with a person that knows how to communicate with you. Through the good and the bad, positive or negative. If you have that, there is no need for a pre-nup because if things don't work out you can trust that your partner will be fair.

Who you divorce is exactly the same person you married, the only thing is you didn't know who you were marrying before you got married or you foolishly believed you could change them. By the time divorce happens people have come to the realization that they can't change who people are or that they didn't really take the time out to truly know who the person was in the first place. Yes people grow and mature as time progresses, but people's core values don't truly change. The signs were always there, if you ignored them you can't blame anyone but yourself

a pre-nup is nothing bad..... it is a possibility for both partners to make sure that they are on the same page what they want in live. If a partner wants to found a business... thats a risk, if it fails, you as a spouse can be accountable for those bills. Personally, I did not sign a prenup when I married . It’s not something I was comfortable with, but I would have considered it had my husband brought it up. When my parents got divorced, it was handled so gracefully. My mother and feather taught us “don’t marry someone who doesn’t love you enough to honor you if you divorce.” My father took care of my mother financially after the divorce, because my mother gave up a career as an aviation mechanic to raise my six brothers and I. They used the same attorney for their divorce. They are birth remarried now, and the four get lunch every Sunday after church.
